Warriors work the (very) early shift

The roosters — and, yes, there actually are roosters roaming the UH campus — still were asleep when the first group of Warriors began the offseason conditioning program this morning.

Strength/conditioning coordinator Bubba Reynolds has two rules:

> If you’re late, you can make it up the next day … at 4:30 in the morning.

> If one player messes up on a drill, everybody does two 71.5-yard sprints. The Warriors averaged 71.5 penalty yards per game last season.

    Good luck to the Wahine!
    And the Warriors!

Nice pics. Warriors training hard before the sun is up. Should be a good upcoming second season for coach Rolo and staff. Go Warriors !!!

These early morning workouts now will pay off in the regular season.

  4. leron January 17, 2017 9:18 am

Good to see local boys go like style and go barefoot on the turf. No need shoes!

  5. leron January 17, 2017 9:18 am

    Meant to say “local style.”

    Howzit Tsaikos!

ST, up before da roosters. 😆

Thank goodness the UH coaches know better:

Noticed pic of Kalepo Naotala. Nice to see he is on campus.

How do you know UH coaches know better ? The article said the Oregon players were doing military style training.

    #6,
That’s some intense workout! Possible kidney damage to one of the players? That can’t be productive if the player cannot even make it to the regular season. I guess that is their idea of “next man up” at the University of Oregon.

Too much “bullying” is not good.

  11. clyde January 17, 2017 12:40 pm

Oregon strength/conditioning coach has degrees in recreation administration and sports management, as pointed out by a reporter on Curran’s show. Bubba Reynolds has degrees in kinesiology and educational leadership, plus several certifications in strength and conditioning. Who would you hire?

Early hour training will mean no partying into late nites especially with booz which is a good thing.

JM2375 works in medical statistics related to blood and other body fluids. She knows a thing or two because she’s seen a thing or several thousand. If college athletes are being hospitalized like the Oregon athletes, there is obviously a flaw in the training somewhere.

Mahalo to the Warriors for being out there early, working hard to be better. Too often we just react to the wins and losses without appreciation to the year long commitment our Wariors makes at many levels.

The early Warriors get the worm and kick butt too!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  15. SteveM January 17, 2017 1:08 pm

Interesting to see the baseball guys too. Who knew they worked out on Ching field too?
Looks like the new baseball beat writer is drawing more attention to the baseball guys and program.

I don’t buy he lost the men’s volleyball beat due to his surgery recovery last year, but I would believe a smart man like Dave Matlin would request the best sports beat writer on the island also be assigned to cover UH baseball… one of the higher revenue sports. 😉

    How’s the guns on Dejon??

On a side note, sad that from all the talent playing in the Polynesian Bowl, that there is only 1 player currently committed to UH (Kesi Ah Hoy).

Guess a .500 season and a bowl win is still not enough to sway the local elite talents.

  17. Jeezy33 January 17, 2017 3:40 pm

    16. This local class is overrated anyway. Unless we getting Tua Tagovailoa or Miki Suguturaga, not missing out on too much and making up for it in Samoa.

  18. AllG January 17, 2017 4:05 pm

Nice to see Tago and Kalepo working out with the team already. Kalepo definitely looks like he needs to hit the weight program hard though, needs to add a lot of muscle before he is ready compete at D1 level.

  19. boya_jr January 17, 2017 8:29 pm

    Go Warriors!

  20. kapakahi January 17, 2017 8:33 pm

Gotta agree that DE Miki Suguturuga is the real deal.

Hopefully Miki will squeeze UH in on an official recruiting trip this coming weekend…….even if it’s a courtesy trip……since he’s still got 1 more to take…..having already been to UVA and Wazzu……and with scheduled trips to Vandy and the Utes next week.
