Walk-on tryouts

Twenty-two Warrior hopefuls participated in a walk-on session this morning at Ching Athletic Complex.

They sprinted and went through agility drills. NCAA rules, however, restricted the workout from the use of a football.

There was a running back from South Dakota (Leroy Banks) and a lineman (Kalani Kapiko) who was raised in Michigan but dreamed of playing for the Warriors since he was 5. Makai Manuwai, a defensive end/tight end from Bedford, Ore., said his first cousin is former UH/NFL offensive lineman Vince Manuwai.

Hope there’s a Chad Owens or Rich Miano amongst the walk-on possibilities.

Good luck to all Warrior hopefuls. The Warrior walk-on program has consistently produced quality players and I am glad to see the program remains vibrant.

Super excited about the future-looking forward to getting to about 4 mainland games-hope the viewing problems get resolved but when that happens I will miss a certain person waving a football in front of the screen to celebrate Warrior plays and scores!!! GoWarriors!!!!

Truly awesome reading the blog this week. On top of that, rain or shine, everyday is a beautiful day in Hawaii nei. Yes, I wear rose-colored glasses and choose not to take them off!

I couldn’t help but notice the overall classroom accomplishments of this recruiting class. In the past, there were always a few that had to overcome deficiencies before enrolling at UH. Also, the rise in linemen with wrestling backgrounds (champions even) and basketball experience. Tells me that they know leverage, have quickness/good feet/coordination. A great start to Rolo’s stated aim of dominating the line of scrimmage.

Even more encouraging is the consistent message from the athletes as to why they chose Hawaii. I kept hearing, “coaching staff, the environment (physical, emotional, food, people), and wanting to build the program.” I give the credit for the direction and push of this growing wave of momentum to Rolo. ‘Nuff said.

Make everyday a great one! // bg

    NSF:
The Schedule so far is only for non-conference games. Most are scheduled years in advance.

The rest of the Schedule is for Conference games that are usually announced by the Conference around March or April.

Congrats to Coach Rolo and Staff on a great Recruiting Class.
Seems like a lot of quality recruits joining the team.

Hmm…. Did Punahou’s Miki Suguturaga ever sign his LOI? He’s not listed on Utah’s Official Recruiting site. Unutoa (Kapaa), Vimahi (Kahuku) and JUCO Agasiva (Mililani) are signed. No doubt, the work of Lewis Powell who’s the Hawaii Point Man.

Joe Moore was once the sports announcer.
    So Kekaula should do ok.
Wonder if they will make him wear a suit coat
(over his shorts). Or will he continue to make
fashion statements with his beautiful shirts.
Maybe make him show more cleavage…
    🙂
