Update: Brenden Daley

Former UH linebacker Brenden Daley’s professed love for football is a vow you can take to the bank.

Daley said his recent signing with the LA KISS is an “opportunity to put deposits into my dream account. When I was in the corporate world, it was taking withdrawals from my dream account.”

This week, Daley reached agreement with the LA KISS — owned by Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss — and will make his Arena Football League debut against the Jacksonville Sharks this Sunday.

“That’s the plan,” said Daley, who was with the Atlanta Falcons the past summer after completing his UH career. “I’ll be running down on kickoffs. We’re going to get in the mix here.”

Daley was signed as a middle linebacker, which is the designated edge blitzer in the AFL’s schemes. “All I do every down is rush the passer,” Daley said.

After being cut by the Falcons at the end of training camp, Daley worked for an an organization that helped high school students earn college scholarships. “I put 10 kids in college,” he said.

He also kept training. Matt Mielke, a former Warrior, is his agent. Taylor Ramsey is his trainer. Daley and Ramsey, who have been friends since the third grade, are housemates. Ramsey is a performance specialist at San Diego-based Exos. His clients include wide receivers Kenny Stills of the Miami Dolphins and Odell Beckham Jr.of the New York Giants.

Of this new job, Daley said: “I can put down the suit and tie, the pen and paper, and really shed my office-linebacker persona and really play ball. … I’ve worked outside of football. It was a good experience. But my heart and soul are in football. That’s what I’m here to do. I won’t stop until I reach my full potential. The hope I live with every day is I haven’t reached my full potential.”

He also promised to re-activiate his social media accounts, which he dubs, the Daley reports. One of his goals is a selfie with the team owner, who is known as much for his tongue-waving as his bass-guitar playing.

“I want to do a picture with (Simmons) where he does his tongue (pose) and then I do my haka face,” Daley said. “I think that’ll be a good one for the Facebook world.”

    Good Morning Gangeez! 😉

Nice post about Daley. Judging by the nature and eloquence of his remarks, the guy has a good head on his shoulders.

I’m with H-Man. I hope he’s on an NFL roster soon.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

#6 NorthShoreFan: “Did Negus have grade problems?’

    Head problem most likely.

    RE: tom #6

Spending too much time with Jordan Clarkson and Andrew Wiggins.

    RE: A-House #3

I wish UH lower campus could take a page from Spurs front office. Only one can dream…

  10. Tiki808 May 28, 2015 10:18 am

LA KISS. Good luck. Don’t normally watch arena football. Go Warriors!

  11. A-House May 28, 2015 10:29 am

    seewhy:

don’t give too much credit to UH – lower or upper campus

maybe Matlin will turn things around, but he needs permanent financial help to balance his budget; otherwise, it a continuous losing battle of the $$$.

did Matlin’s getting the job included a promise to keep all 3 Associate ADs? If yes, it compounds his problems!!!!!!

  12. A-House May 28, 2015 10:34 am

how does one’s contribution to a sports program differ from the “coaches choice”
    fund drive?

can they not use any $$ donated to pay for the “choice(s)? If no, why not? $$$ goes into the same “pot”.

friend donated enough $$ to reach 95-97% of a coaches choice, but it was to that program, not specifically to coaches choice.

  13. jimmy the lock May 28, 2015 10:34 am

Right on Brenden. Not often you get paid to play your favorite game.

  14. A-House May 28, 2015 10:36 am

played the KISS slot machine when it first appeared about 4 years ago at the Fremont and made about $400

since then, it has been all down hill – matter of fact most casinos have pulled the KISS slot machine – see it only at Binion’s downtown today.

  15. A-House May 28, 2015 10:39 am

    BTW:

any one know how effective the Associate ADs at UH have been at getting $$ donations?

is it within their job description or is this only for the UHAD?

  16. jimmy the lock May 28, 2015 10:42 am

Coach wants item “c” but is hesitant to use funds earmarked for items “a” and “b”. So the coach creates a “choice” bucket to pay for item “c” and let’s the world know that he/she could use help in purchasing “c”. Thus the coach doesn’t have to take $$$ that will fund “a” and “b”. All’s good now.

No forget, winning helps bring in the money.

  18. cappie the dog May 28, 2015 11:46 am

Gene Simmons owns an Arena Football League team?

That’s even better than the line of pet toys put out by Poison frontman Brett Michaels I saw at PetSmart about a couple months ago.

On the packaging, it was promoted as being “extreme pet toys”.

  19. cappie the dog May 28, 2015 11:56 am

Negus Webster Chan’s first goal should have been to be a more productive player than Brandon Spearman.

Tyler Brashears posted an ERA under two against Big West competition.

Chan couldn’t manage a double-digit scoring average against Big West competition.

Fellow Canadian countryman Carl English needs to e-mail the Missouri transfer, and now ex-Warrior.

And hell, what happened to UC-Irvine’s post-season bid?

And why does UC-Santa Barbara get a 40-win San Diego State team as their opening game? What kind of #4 seed is that?

  20. NorthShoreFan May 28, 2015 12:06 pm

tom, me thinks Negus is too eager and not sure who his agent will be or is but he’s getting some really bad advice. That’s why I’m thinking grade problems or maybe he got the “Tiger Syndrome”…??? Me thinks he could make a really big impact on the Big West next year but wai unda da bridge already.

    Decisions, decisions.

I hope his sweet dreams don’t turn into a nightmare.

  29. Nanakuli May 28, 2015 6:55 pm

Wow. Punahou staff looks like a college staff.

  30. Old School Dave May 28, 2015 8:41 pm

In “da old days” a high school staff consisted of one offensive backfield/receivers coach, an o-line coach, a defensive line/linebackers coach, a defensive secondary coach, and the head coach. Today’s high school players are getting better and more specialized coaching.

  31. hitman May 28, 2015 9:32 pm

aloha everyone !! getting hard and hard to find the new page of of the day !! lol

  32. boolakanaka May 29, 2015 5:34 am

Ipu-hahahaha. But, on the other hand, that would require that you hold significant equity…….???

  33. papajoe2 May 29, 2015 6:56 am

Whoever is in charge of the SA website should get a job with UH. Not only was it getting harder to find the current WB, but now, when I try to access an article, its partially blocked by ads so I cannot read it. Getting a job with UH will pay off the person in charge.

  34. papajoe2 May 29, 2015 7:00 am

I like the attorney for Gib Arnold’s answer about arbitration. What its telling me is that they will not negotiate until they get a guy who will say yes to them.

But then again, it’s a matter of interpretation.
