Spring practice No. 3

It was cloudy. And it was hot. Cloudy hot? For the first day in full pads, the Warriors opened with Oklahoma drills and closed with a 30-play, scrimmage-like session.

The offense had its moments — Diocemy Saint Juste burst his way for a 45-yard touchdown, and Dru Brown and Marcus Armstrong-Brown connected on a 30-yard completion.

But the defense had the most ooh moments. They picked off four passes and made several big hits. At the end of the practice, the quarterbacks were told to do width-of-the-field rolls.

The most spectacular play came when cornerback Roe Farris sped toward the sideline, stretched out for the catch — maybe he was in bounds, maybe not — then kept running before rolling down the 10-foot hill onto the softball practice field.

OK, I’ve got to report on a baseball game now. I’ll try to post more later.

Keala Santiago has interceptions in back-to-back practices. For each pick, he barely had to move. He is the Invisible Intercepter.

Derek, re: prior post. Trap has to compete in the Big West baseball conference, a far cry from the Big West mostly cream puff volleyball conference and this year’s BW basketball conference.

Couldn’t make today’s practice, but will next Saturday. Kinda knew the offense would struggle at this stage. It usually does, but will catch up in the fall. Perhaps Armstrong-Brown is the guy to watch in the receiving group to replace Marcus Kemp.

If Keala hardly had to move on his picks, then that explains why the QBs are doing after practice rolls.

Maybe the best QB in school is playing volleyball.

    Howzit Tsaikos!

#7 – and if Charlie Wade has any say in it, he’ll stick with vb. Wade thinks he has the potential to play at the next level as a libero.

Spend the day tomorrow at Lower Campus. Watch baseball and/or softball and then head over to the SSC to watch #WarriorBall. No TV for MVB, so … Only 7 more home games.

    # 8…..I’m sure Charlie wants Tui to stick to vball……However, if he Tui is good enough to warrant a scholie to play football , he will get a full ride. No way Charlie is going to stand in the way of the young man getting his education paid for for free.

As a vball player you have to scratch and claw your way thru school. A full scholie will make it much easier for the Tuileta family.

BTW…..Gage Worsley is coming in next year. He is supposed to be the #1 Libero in the class so if we lose Tui for part of the season due to football, I think UH will still be in good hands at libero.

I really want to agree with you…but I can’t. At least not yet. Eight times out of ten, spring practices favor the defense. College offenses are so complex these days it really takes time to get in sync with each after such a long break. While defense can also be complicated, you can rely a lot more on athleticism, especially against an offense that doesn’t quite have their timing down.

If this is still happening in Summer camp, THEN we know the defense is really prepared. Aloha.
