Semifinal day: Pepperdine

IRVINE, Calif. — There is a belief that no matter the outcome of today’s MPSF semifinal match, the volleyball Warriors still have a good chance of earning a berth in next week’s NCAA tournament.

But in the ya-never-know category, the Warriors are treating this as yet another must-win match. Except for outside hitter Hendrik Mol, who is being treated for an eye infection at UCLA Medical Center, the Warriors are relatively healthy. Outside hitter Scott Hartley, who had been dealing with arm issues, is fine and had a strong week of practice.

The Warriors had a lively 90-minute practice yesterday afternoon and were animated in serve/pass drills this morning.

First serve is at 2 p.m. Hawaii time on OC Sports, ESPN 1420 and staradvertiser.com

  10. 3-Prong April 30, 2015 9:47 am

i think they need to get in the final (ie win at least 2) to get one of the six spots.

did not see ST response, but now that I see her photo it’s Kaui Awong!

    b-y-WHO ?

PROVO, Utah >> BYU has agreed to play in either the Hawaii Bowl or the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl at the end of the 2015 season.

  17. jojo April 30, 2015 11:35 am

Volleyball, NFL draft, and committee meetings are why I’m streaming tv

    Let’s go Bows!

  18. SteveM April 30, 2015 12:04 pm

    Good morning everyone!

Smart move on the Hawaii Bowl to try to book BYU. A UH-BYU matchup will likely pack the house. But if UH is not in it, there should still be a good size crowd. I wonder who the diehard UH fans will cheer for in this case… 😕

    GO VOLLEYBOWS!

    Hiya jojo — long time!

  19. oneseason April 30, 2015 12:27 pm

Good luck Rainbow Warriors! Let’s go Bows!

    A-House:
Kaui, a Kamehamaha Schools graduate, was a student worker for the media relations department for several years. She graduated a couple years ago, and now handles the media for men’s volleyball and water polo. She’s very good — and successful. Both programs are doing well.

  21. turfwar April 30, 2015 12:59 pm

Hmm.. this writer has Marcus Mariota dropping to the 13th pick. Was his pro day more disappointing than scouts let on? http://www.omaha.com/sports/sam-mckewon-s-mock-draft/article_5edfb9e7-0ada-5bc8-94e3-240edb734e0b.html

  22. BigWave96744 April 30, 2015 1:45 pm

It’s ironic that the same staff who didn’t think too highly of Marcus Maritota never even offered Castle’s Shaydon Kehano an invited walkon.

  24. st. anthony trojan April 30, 2015 1:52 pm

The draft 4 me is not very important…it is the ensuing years… n what you do with that opportunity is what really important n how u handle it…example…that dud of a QB AT CLEVELAND…

  25. seewhy April 30, 2015 1:54 pm

Draft starts in 20 mins… so stoked.

  26. Andrew April 30, 2015 2:13 pm

    23.

Thanks! My office blocks all media websites like ESPN but for some reason allows youtube.

  27. Shoko April 30, 2015 2:14 pm

No surprise, I guess, Tampa picks JaMarcus Russel.

  28. st. anthony trojan April 30, 2015 2:18 pm

    thanks 4 stream..
seems like the crowd is less then our crowds for high school..

  29. hitman April 30, 2015 2:24 pm

Marcus Mariota 2nd pick in todays draft !!

  30. Kapahulu April 30, 2015 2:28 pm

    Mariota chosen by Titans!

  31. seewhy April 30, 2015 2:35 pm

    RE: Andrew #26

You’re welcome! I know how it feels to have websites blocked…

  32. seewhy April 30, 2015 2:36 pm

I don’t like the Titans O-line though… Jake Locker can tell you.

  33. NorthShoreFan April 30, 2015 2:36 pm

    Congratulations Marcus!….IMUA!

Bows take set 1…dang that arena crowd looks like a high school game…sad….the Stanley would have been packed!

  34. oneseason April 30, 2015 2:36 pm

  35. seewhy April 30, 2015 2:39 pm

    RE: NorthShoreFan #33

All I can say is one thing. Lose money!!

  36. 3-Prong April 30, 2015 2:47 pm

Tampa is gonna regret that pick one day when the interceptions start mounting.

  37. oldtimer808 April 30, 2015 3:16 pm

#27 Shoko was that a tongue in cheek by saying Russell instead of Winston lol

  38. jm2375 April 30, 2015 3:37 pm

    GO WARRIORS!

The youtube announcer is driving me nuts with his “descriptions”.

  39. ai-eee-soos April 30, 2015 4:03 pm

    fyi …

President Barack Obama has chosen his hometown of Chicago to host his future presidential library, two individuals with knowledge of the decision said Thursday, placing the permanent monument to his legacy in the city that launched his improbable ascent to the White House.

The University of Chicago’s victory marks a harsh letdown for the other three schools on the short list: The University of Hawaii, New York’s Columbia University and the University of Illinois at Chicago, a public school that proposed building the library on Chicago’s West Side.

  40. oneseason April 30, 2015 4:14 pm

UH has come back a lot this year, but win or lose, this has been a great season. Let’s go Bows!

  41. 3-Prong April 30, 2015 4:18 pm

    Go Hartley!

  42. islandman April 30, 2015 4:30 pm

Pepperdine and Nikki’s brother too good for UH. They might beat Irvine too.

  43. Boolakanaka April 30, 2015 4:30 pm

3prong, don’t take Jameis to pikes place market with you, he might cockroach a bunch of Alaska’s finest crab legs…

  44. HawaiiMongoose April 30, 2015 5:10 pm

Well, this has been a disappointing day. Winston getting picked before Mariota, UH losing to Pepperdine, OHA bailing on the TMT, and Chicago landing the Obama Library.

At least we have UH football to look forward too. Oh wait…

  45. islandman April 30, 2015 7:29 pm

    UCI barely beats USC .

  46. beans April 30, 2015 7:46 pm

    #44 MONGOOSE
Yeah I feel the same way but……………..
    THE CLIPPERS WON!

  47. 3-Prong April 30, 2015 10:13 pm

boo: yup, I have a hard time believing he has turned into a Boy Scout overnight. He just wasn’t brought up with the same support system and lifestyle that Marcus was.

  48. cappie the dog April 30, 2015 11:08 pm

So we’re all Tennessee fans now?

I like alternative country, country music that comes out of Austin.

Am I the only one who laughed uncontrollably when the Volunteers hired Derek Dooley as their head coach?

I was praying for San Diego.

But thank god, Marcus Mariota isn’t going to Cleveland.

I need time to process this.

  49. Andrew May 1, 2015 7:44 am

I will root for the Titans unless they are going against the Broncos.
