“Saint Nick” delivers again

Apparently, Christmas comes more than once a year.

A week after awarding a football scholarship to long-snapper Brodie Nakama, Nick Rolovich gave another one to running back Ryan Tuiasoa.

“He’s proven he takes academics seriously,” Rolovich said. “I think he’s a wonderful teammate. He’s going to have a significant role on special teams. We like to reward guys. He’s earned it.”

This time, Rolovich had assistance from koalas. During the outing at the zoo, a package, supposedly from koalas, was handed to Tuiasoa. It contained the scholarship offer.

“How else would you give a kid a scholarship in Australia?” Rolovich said.

Oh, but the deal was not finalized until Tuiasoa was required to dive after two footballs in a mud patch following yesterday’s practice.

Here are some pics from the zoo excursion:

Having a great time in Sydney with Mr. & Mrs. a House, Midiri 7, Masaboy, Mr. & Mrs. Kapahulu. Went to the animal park like our Warriors and it was raining but fun.

Congrats to Ryan! So now the water balloon fights, Pokemon, penalty kicks and mudslides are pau-it’s game time and the pain endured over the last few years and the total trust and remake of this team should be a driving force to succeed. Go Warriors!!!!

Best of luck to the Warriors in Sydney! Have been off the blog until futball season and wondered if Tom K has a line on tickets for the Arizona game on 9/17?

  11. Ipu Man August 24, 2016 1:07 pm

  13. Stephen Tsai August 24, 2016 1:27 pm

I was gonna do a reference about kangaroos and sacks because I thought that thingie that holds baby kangaroos is a sac, but apparently it’s a pouch, and, well, I can’t tie in any football jargon to pouch.

  14. Stephen Tsai August 24, 2016 1:28 pm

The skies have cleared and it’s actually a pretty nice day in Aussie nei.

  15. NorthShoreFan August 24, 2016 1:41 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

Went out to clean my gutters and got soaked with sweat…humid like heo!

Anyhoo, wasn’t it Colin Scot who used to do the “roo hop” after a sack? I seem to remember him doing some kind of hop after the play. It was cool!

  16. Da Punchbowl Kid August 24, 2016 1:43 pm

Rolo sure knows how to keep things interesting. I’m happy for Ryan!

Stephen – ‘Roos kick when they fight – maybe you coulda used the ‘roo reference when the two kickers from Aussie nei were signed.

    Two more days.

    GO WARRIORS!!!
    BOUNCE THE BEARS!!!

  17. Stephen Tsai August 24, 2016 1:59 pm

    I think it stopped raining.
That’s good. We can stop trying to pair up.

  18. Warrior Dave August 24, 2016 2:18 pm

My mind is overloaded!! Strangers getting to know each other nonstop. Funny when someone on our breakfast table asks… Are you a Tsaiko??? We all bust out in laughter and nod yes we are. Finally I can put a face to the blog name.

Special thanks to Princess Leila’s Mom, Queen Faye for asking the question and for the fun and laughter she brings to the room.

    From Josh Pacheco:
Per @Garyterp on @ESPNHonolulu – Groundskeepers at ANZ Stadium put yards markers down in METERS, not YARDS ahead of Cal/Hawaii game.

  21. z August 24, 2016 3:29 pm

    Way to go Ryan!

    Go Warriors!

    Pouch da quarterback!

    Give’em da roo!

  22. Kahuna August 24, 2016 3:48 pm

Hmmm… Fresno listed Muti as an Olineman. Did he want to play Oline?

If he came to UH, he would have seen playing time as an DLINEMAN.

Wonder if the young man had any regrets.

  23. Maddog50 August 24, 2016 4:00 pm

For those interested game notes for us and them are available on the Football website. Hit archived stories and the article(most recent) UH opens season………Go Warriors!

  24. Akamai Okole August 24, 2016 4:06 pm

    G’day Mates!

    Congratulations to Mr. Tuiasoa.

  25. Hilo-Warrior August 24, 2016 4:46 pm

    Howzit Tsaiko’s,

ST is there any word on Max being able to play this week?

Also with the Nick Rolovich show starting this tonight, does anyone know if it can be streamed on the Mainland?

I was watching the BYU game in 01 earlier. I am excited for our defense. If I am not mistaken Lempa was the DC then. I am ready for our hard hitting defense to come back. Also ready to see what Rolo, Smith and Stuttz have up their sleeve on offense.

    Got our boys winning 27-20.

    Go Warriors!!!

  26. Inyoface August 24, 2016 5:32 pm

The offense must score to keep the moral of the defense high. Or, get first downs and keep the defense off the field as much as possible. At least Rolo isn’t scared to play Cal, Chow would be shaking his head having doubts already.

  27. Inyoface August 24, 2016 5:40 pm

    Cal 21 UH 33

  28. H-Man August 24, 2016 7:04 pm

Inyoface, I like the way you think. Warriors to win, but maybe a little closer like UH 32-31. High drama down under.

  29. FearGod August 24, 2016 8:34 pm

    If this entire team
    FearGod and TrustGod
they will be able to have a victorious season

Pride Rock on Dis Solid Rock….Facing the Giants

  30. Willie August 24, 2016 9:09 pm

Great Rolo Show! You can feel his passion and love for the UH program! He has a plan and from what I heard it will be a journey that invites everyone to join. Instilling and sharing this passion through himself, the staff and alumni can be infectious. Can’t wait for the season to begin.

Couple of things he said stood out. Minimizing turnovers and stupid, selfish penalties can help translate close games into wins. It takes disipline and not being selfish, think about the team. My opinion is that he has the keys and despite some negative prognosticators, he got the “discipline” category covered.

    Looking for jeezy33

  32. Maddog50 August 25, 2016 2:24 am

Reviewing various stories and Twitter items. Luke Clement is not listed in the game notes roster. So does anyone know the deal on him. Late addition to roster last year, recently reported as healing a nagging injury-pretty much understand where everyone else falls on OL roster but can’t quite figure this one out. Just curious about a 6-5 300 pound guy-

  33. H-Man August 25, 2016 5:54 am

Maddog50, go to H-TV Video Recap – Day 2 of “Follow the Warriors” at the Hawaii Football web site. You will see #70 as you watch the video. And in a picture of the O-line, I think Luke is third from the right, standing between Austin Webb and JR Hensley. RJ Hollis and Dejon Allen are in front of him.

  34. Maddog50 August 25, 2016 6:04 am

Watched that and saw that thanks. Question still not on the game notes roster and also fall camp roster. Did note that he and Amosa would not be added till first day of classes. My only reason for being curious is that 16 lineman are a lot better than 14. I believe he is in a Twitter photo from yesterday but not on either roster…….

  35. DaveLetterMan August 25, 2016 7:16 am

    Morning Tsaikos!
Looks like Warriors will be all white for the game.

Looks like a lot of national attention for this game. I hope the team comes out and plays tough…

  37. Ipu Man August 25, 2016 8:36 am

All white?? Dang nab it! Long underwear!
It didn’t help us in the sugar bowl.
Grrrrr.. At least add rainbow stripes.
