One last TBA

It could take until this summer to complete the final piece in the Warriors’ 2017 television schedule.

UMass controls the television rights to the Aug. 26 season-opener because it is the home team and a football independent.

But which entity will televise the game has yet to be determined. UMass does not have a national television contract.

This is different from UH’s regular-season finale against BYU, also a football independent, at Aloha Stadium. The Mountain West, of which UH is a football-only member, has first rights to telecasts of Warrior home games. The Mountain West, which has contracts with several national entities, has placed the UH-BYU game on CBS Sports.

UMass and BYU should be cautionary models if UH ever considers the independent path.
