Not over, Hill

There was little known about what Tigi Hill did the past few years, but one thing is certain about this week: He will be auditioning with the Indianapolis Colts.

Hill, who twice signed with UH but never joined the team, has secured a free-agent tryout with the Colts. He reports on Thursday.

“If they like me, they’ll sign me by the weekend,” Hill said. “If not, I’ll keep trying.”

Hill was a highly regarded prospect as a Kahuku senior. He committed to UH in February 2011, but did not meet all the requirements to compete as a freshman. He then enrolled at Mesa College.

Two years later, he again signed with the Warriors. But he did not earn enough transferrable credits to play for the Warriors that year.

He returned to Mesa, but fell short in accumulating enough transferrable credits.

He said he spent 2014 in Hawaii, working at the Polynesia Cultural Center.

Last year, he moved to Utah. “Basically,” he said, “it’s a second Laie over there.”

He kept training, and this year was invited to participate in BYU’s pro day.

“People wanted to know who I was, where I came from, what was my story,” Hill said. “I told them my story, and they were kind of shocked. I was the only JC guy there. A couple scouts were interested. They kept tabs on me. One of them was with the Colts. They looked at my background, and I guess it was pretty legit to them.”

Hill, who is 6 feet 2 1/2 and 225 pounds, will compete as a linebacker-safety combo.

“It’s been crazy,” Hill said. “My family pushed me to keep going with football. My friends, too. Everywhere I went, they told me to keep going with it. I figured I’d give it one more time.”

Would have been fun to watch Tigi in a Warrior uniform. If he makes it this would be the story of the draft.

Interesting that he could draw interest from the nfl peeps and that byu extended him an invite to pro day. I’m assuming he played ball at Mesa?

Nice story about Tigi. There’s more than one way up the mountain Iguess. Good luck to the Kahuku boy.

Hope the scouts are getting some big, mean athletes for the line.

Not everyone has the academics, but looks like Tigi has strong character and work ethic. Good luck to him.
