Joey Nuuanu-Kuhiiki was prepared for life without football. Despite graduating from Waianae High with a 3.5 GPA, he did not have the money to pay for college.

That changed yesterday when Nuuanu-Kuhiiki received a football scholarship from the Warriors.

“When I told my mother, she started crying because she knew what I was going through,” said Nuuanu-Kuhiiki, who will be the first member of his family to attend a four-year college.

Nuuanu-Kuhiiki, who was working in a warehouse this summer, is projected to compete at defensive end for the Warriors. He is 6 feet 3 and 260 pounds.

Like Joeys story now I’m sure he knows what to do-question last minute additions means a subtraction. So the media guide shows 14 plus Ulu-perry which is 15……who are the remaining 3 or 4. There’s been a bunch of incoming traffic-

  5. haka July 27, 2016 9:49 am

    Congrats Joey!!
    Feel the love.
    Be the Warrior!!!

  6. Tulsa Electrician July 27, 2016 10:38 am

    Yay Joey! Go Warriors!!!

  7. H-Man July 27, 2016 10:59 am

Maybe an opening for another scholarship became available since I don’t see recruit WR Marcus Armstrong-Brown on the latest roster.

  8. H-Man July 27, 2016 11:05 am

And congrats to St Louis School OG Mikey Minihan who committed to Georgia Tech. Would have liked to have seen you in a Warrior uniform, but Georgia Tech was a good choice.

  9. Da Punchbowl Kid July 27, 2016 11:24 am

    Welcome Joey!

I like the fact that he’s d-line prospect. He’s got the smarts that’s for sure. Student athletes are the name of this game.

Love Coach Rolo’s bright green socks. Makes it easier for the media throngs to find him. He looks so serious.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

And woo-hoo to Joey Nuuanu-Kuhiiki for working hard to get

    ST

Are you able to update us which recruits did not qualify or won’t be in camp?

  23. Da Punchbowl Kid July 27, 2016 4:41 pm

    #20 Ipu Man –

Any color he wants! Is there such a thing as fluorescent black? In any case, our rookie HC shows he has his own style. We’ve all been here to watch HCs come and go through the years , I’m enjoying watching Rolo’s rise. I hope practices are open to the public.

  24. hitmanhart July 27, 2016 5:48 pm

aloha everyone !! Congratulations Joey Nuuanu-Kuhiiki welcome to da Warrior family !!!

  25. 808warriorfan July 27, 2016 7:22 pm

#14 “Akamai Okole” … but you can buy ’em @ H-Zone, formerly Rainbotique, at the Ward Center … $70 or $80 per shirt … but here’s the deal … for every $50 you spend you get a coupon for a Fall UH Athletic Event (Football, Wahine V-ball, Men & Wahine Hoops) … General Admission of course … great deal if you use the coupon for a Football ticket … home game of course. I going get one myself

  26. Turfwar July 27, 2016 7:47 pm

Congrats to the newest Warrior. Make your mom proud, continue to do well in school and rep the Westside well. The rest will fall into place.
