It’s official: Warriors to Hawaii Bowl

What was assumed for a week became official today: the Warriors will play Middle Tennessee in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

It will be the Warriors’ return to the postseason for the first time since the 2010 Hawaii Bowl.

And it will mark a full-circle scenario for Nick Rolovich, UH’s first-year head coach. In 2001, Rolovich led the Warriors to a record-setting regular season that did not result in a postseason bowl. That reaction led to the creation of the Hawaii Bowl.

MTSU is going to be a tough one. Great passing attack. DL will have to put pressure and stop the run too. DB’s will be stretched to the max.

All you guys! Already talking trash about Middle Tennessee. Remember this!. The conference their are in is not the Mountain West!. Because they are in a conference have better teams then the Mountain West have!. And remember this Hawaii will be playing Western Kentucky too. And remember this to Middle Tennessee is not Fresno State and UMASS!. They are much better then you know it!. The team that their lost too. Aren’t a push over teams! I hope their don’t see whatever you write about them!

North Shore Fan: Thanks for pointing out that 77-point game. Needless to say, MTSU has a prolific offense under former Florida State QB Rick Stockstill. Blue Raiders did not have their starting QB/Stockstill’s son (300-plus passing yards per game), so they rushed for 500 yards against Florida Atlantic.

  8. Whats up December 4, 2016 12:12 pm

Thank heavens Hawaii didn’t get Old Dominion that would have been 55-10 a blowout loss for the Warriors. Teams like UTSA or Middle Tenn is a better match up for Hawaii.

So, Congrats Warriors and Rolo on going bowling and getting a winnable match up with Middle-Tennesee… It should be a close win like the UMass game.

  9. kev-1 December 4, 2016 12:13 pm

Whoa! Go easy Mr./Mrs. Ohana. Not sure what you are basing your rant on, but I’m pretty sure not too many people have delusions that Hawaii is at a place where they can take teams lightly.

BTW … are you a fan of the team? Seems to me like most of what you have to say (well, at least most of what I can understand in what you write) is negative in nature. Just wondering if you consider yourself a supporter or not.

  10. burro sabio December 4, 2016 12:14 pm

I hope MTSU fans don’t think that all Hawaii fans abuse drugs and alcohol

  11. al December 4, 2016 12:31 pm

It should be renamed the Rolo Bowl.

  12. RollBows December 4, 2016 12:33 pm

UH might have got a commit from Kesi Ah Hoy

  13. al December 4, 2016 12:34 pm

Key to the game is that our run up the middle offense a.k.a. RPO can control the clock and. Keep the pass happy MTU off the field.

#11 I like It! Congrats to Rolo on pulling off UH Turnaround #2 of the recent era. JJ was right….. he was ready.

    6. According to this ranking, MWC is the 7th ranked conference, while Conference USA is 11th.

  17. 808 December 4, 2016 1:08 pm

Ohana Hawaii, I don’t see anyone here talking trash about Midle Tennessee. In fact, I think everyone knows Hawaii can’t take them lightly.

It seems you are sometimes positive and sometimes negative with your opinion on Hawaii. But, as always, it’s always interesting reading your post. Most of what you say is incoherent. I guess this must be a bad day for you. How’s the weather like in Las Vegas?

  18. 808 December 4, 2016 1:34 pm

    Middle Tennessee…

  19. H-Man December 4, 2016 2:15 pm

It will be a tougher game for the Warriors if Brent Stockstill is back from shoulder injury. But that win and 77 points against Florida Atlantic is an eye-opener with Middle Tennessee scoring 9 rushing TDs.

  20. G (China) December 4, 2016 3:08 pm

Nice. MTSU is a good team for sure, but Hawaii is probably hungrier. Go get’em Rolo.

  21. SteveM December 4, 2016 3:25 pm

This past July was the 10th anniversary of The Warrior Beat.
ST’s son compiled a short 3 minute video for the occasion.
Kekoa’s narrative is also prophetic today, and I love coach Rolo’s 6 word comment in conclusion. See:

  22. NorthShoreFan December 4, 2016 3:25 pm

read that Stockstill will be back for the game…fully recovered? rusty?….go to the game and see!

  23. Derek December 4, 2016 3:27 pm

If Hawaii is an underdog I think that’s a good thing. Oddsmakers will probably have Middle Tennessee about a 5 to 8 point favorite, that’s my opinion. I remember the last time Hawaii played Tulsa in the bowl game here that Tulsa just took us to the woodshed. So make no mistake, these conference USA teams are very good and very potent offensively. Remember Chris Johnson and East Carolina blasting Boise State here. SMU smoking Fresno State here when Jones was coaching, etc. etc. etc. Those games were not even close. San Diego State dominated last year. But that’s because they have a good defense and they run the ball well. Our defense stopping the run and scoring defense is not good. I see us giving up about 35 points or more. The question is, can we score just as many points offensively. Early prediction: Middle Tennessee 41, Hawaii 27, but I reserve the right to change my mind, hehe! Believe me when I say that college football teams these days are scoring a lot of points. There are a lot of talented players, and coaches out there.

  24. Bugaz December 4, 2016 3:29 pm

Congrats Warrior Nation for making it to a bowl game. A good start to the Rolo era. Hope the momentum keeps moving in the Warriors favor

Aztecs killed Cincy because so many DL were on the sideline for Cincy in street clothes it wasn’t funny

  28. DoubleB December 4, 2016 3:35 pm

I don’t think we can take anyone lightly. I am proud to see how hard the staff and players worked to get to this point. Just happy to see improvement, and progress. Win or lose in the Bowl, this season was a success… now it’s time to recruit the next class of Warriors. Defend Pride Rock!!

  29. Derek December 4, 2016 5:23 pm

Win or lose, I want to see Hawaii play a smart, disciplined game. Cut down on the penalties, execute their assignments, and show the desire and effort to give a Hawaii fans something to be very proud off. That should be a springboard toward the spring and on into the fall for next year. And hopefully we get a very good recruiting class too.

On another note, another Alabama QB is transferring. 5 star QB Cooper Batemen, backup to Jalen Hurts got his release. I guess he didn’t want to sit on the bench his senior season. Backup David Cornwell is the only other QB on the team besides Hurts. Tua, you are now the 3rd string QB and you haven’t enrolled yet!!!!!

  30. H-Man December 4, 2016 5:39 pm

IMO, Warriors will have to score at least 45 points to be in the ballgame. Should be exciting. And Warriors should remain in the Mauka side in spite of the sun and heat.

  31. 808warriorfan December 4, 2016 9:42 pm

Our weakness … DEFENSE … PASS DEFENSE …
Lack of bulk up front and guys who can tackle
    1 on 1

#21 “LB” Damien Packer … “LB” not Linebacker
but “Left Behind” … always gets burnt …

I will be there supporting the team

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!

  32. clyde December 4, 2016 10:18 pm

Someone could use a lesson in living aloha.

Am glad to see the Warriors in the Hawaii bowl. I say again that this is a great game for the Warriors. I don’t think we are overmatched and those that attend the game will enjoy it. Win or lose will definitely affect their recruiting. My best to the Warriors
