Game day: Arizona

TUCSON — Because of the late kickoff (4:45 p.m. Arizona time), the Warriors are having meetings this morning that they usually would conduct on Friday night.

They wrapped up their field work with a practice in Phoenix yesterday morning before making the 2-hour bus ride to Tucson.

They were given freedom to sleep or walk around yesterday afternoon.

After that, one of the six survivors from the USS Arizona addressed the team.

    First! Go warriors!

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

    Go Warriors
    Go Bows!

  3. clyde September 17, 2016 7:47 am

LOL, Stephen, you’ve been in so many time zones the past few weeks … kickoff is 4:45 Hawaii time, not Arizona.

  4. Ipu Man September 17, 2016 7:51 am

    whicky whicky whack
    we got Hawaii’s back
    whacky whacky doo
    Got to dodge Arizona poo
    Go Bows!

  5. wafan September 17, 2016 8:53 am

    Kimira!

    Bell the ‘cats!!!

  6. nana September 17, 2016 8:59 am

I hope Rolo knows the game time. ST had too much sake yesterday.

  7. Whats Up September 17, 2016 9:05 am

    Arizona 66
    Hawaii 27

This is painful to type, but this year is the first year as Rolo head coach and just like with Chow this 1st year is a pass. Hawaii might not win another game until the last game of the season against U-Mass.

  8. H-Man September 17, 2016 9:09 am

First upset of the day. North Dakota St. over #13 Iowa 23-21.

  9. steve P September 17, 2016 9:20 am

I agree with ‘WHATS UP’. Its painful but first year with Rolo and a defense that doesn’t just need some work, but a new infusion of talent, it does not bode well for the Bows. Lets hope Woosley doesn’t throw more than one pic.

  10. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 9:21 am

Didn’t this guy play UH men’s v-ball back when?

    http://khon2.com/2016/09/16/honolulu-police-officer-indicted-on-honest-services-wire-fraud/

Have not seen Volleyshots mention this yet.

  11. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 9:24 am

Whats up, I have taken the liberty to express your comment here as a poem:

    This is painful to type,
But this year is the first year as Rolo head coach
    And just like
With Chow this 1st year is a pass. Hawaii might not win another game
Until the last game of the season
    Against U-Mass.

  12. Rodney September 17, 2016 10:00 am

    What’s up I agree
I think we won’t even cover the 24.5 point
    spread
    Zona 48
    Bows 17

  13. Rodney September 17, 2016 10:01 am

    I hope Dru plays in
    Qtr 4

  14. Rodney September 17, 2016 10:02 am

    Hope AZ gets some
    PT too.

  15. WarriorNY September 17, 2016 10:28 am

So I know this is getting repetitive but how can mainlanders watch the game tonight?

  16. wafan September 17, 2016 10:32 am

    WarriorNY . . . 8 o’clock on the Pac12 channel.

  17. WarriorNY September 17, 2016 10:38 am

Wafan, thanks. I hope I can find that channel; I really don’t want to deal with ESPN radio again…

  18. Hilo-Warrior September 17, 2016 10:49 am

    Aloha Tsaikos

Were gonna have 3 of us here in San Antonio watching tonight.

I think we have a chance of Woolsey isnt in superhero mode. If we can finally limit our turnovers, I believe we will have a solid chance to fight for a win at the end.

    Go Warriors!!!

  19. wafan September 17, 2016 10:50 am

Oops. That’s 8 o’clock on the West Coast.

  20. NorthShoreFan September 17, 2016 11:07 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
GAME DAY!…hoping for a Warrior Win! this is a winnable game…focus, execute, do your assignments!

Milton to start for UCF today against Maryland. Kahuku vs Bishop G. lots of interesting games today…

    IMUA WARRIORS!

  21. cocobean September 17, 2016 11:08 am

Simple game plan – just block and tackle….well.

  22. A-House September 17, 2016 11:37 am

Louisville 63 Fla St 17 – what a great upset!! Louisvillet QB reminded me of Ivan Jasper.

are they in the same conference [ AAC ]? or, did Louisville go to the former Big East?

  23. A-House September 17, 2016 11:39 am

I do hope that Coach Rolo will NOT employ the mindset of keeping an ineffective QB too long in the game

want to see what AZ can do — give the 2nd and 3rd string players, at least one set of downs, to play against a PC 12 team – don’t wait until they are Seniors.

  24. A-House September 17, 2016 11:44 am

    Coach Rolo:

attack the “edges” with running plays or have a slot from the right or left swing behind the QB who has faked a handoff to the RB moving on a mis-direction play to the other side – slot can have to option to run, if wide open, or pass to the TE coming from the other side or a WR down field – Keelean may be the best player to use with his QB experience on Maui

  25. A-House September 17, 2016 11:46 am

it would be very disappointing to see “dive plays” up the middle to start the offense

Arizona, like Cal and Michigan, will stuff nearly all the plays – one success in 10 attempts is a very poor 10% success rate!!!!

  26. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 11:57 am

Central Florida game (Vs. 2-0) Maryland features thebdebut od Mililani High’s Milton McKenzie Oceanic CBSC digital 247.

Can watch this before Hawaii kickoff!

  27. clyde September 17, 2016 12:48 pm

I had planned to stream the live video of today’s game onto my TV, but when I tried to access Pac-12 Now (from the app/phone and the internet/laptop) earlier in the week, it wouldn’t allow me any live streaming (i.e. soccer, volleyball that was being shown). Instead, a pop-up message basically said I was being denied access by my cable TV provider.
Obviously, Oceanic TWC would prefer I add the Pac-12 Network to my monthly subscription for a fee. Maybe I didn’t do something correctly, but that’s what I experienced. So, it’s not just those on the Mainland getting screw.. by OTWC.

  28. Maddog50 September 17, 2016 1:04 pm

Always watch game no matter what-even if I have to listen. Haven’t missed a game in many years-Go Warriors!!!!

  29. z September 17, 2016 1:19 pm

    Oregon goes down to Nebraska.

  30. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 1:29 pm

That’s, uh, MacKenzie Milton, hahaha transposing the name previously, oops. Don’t seem to matter. Not doing as good as expected.

CBSC Announcers aren’t holding back either, eek.

  31. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 1:40 pm

Oh brother. CBSC sports announcers messing up “Mililani” calling it “Malani.” They’d probably spell it “Malany.”

  32. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 1:43 pm

First collegiate TD pass by MacKenzie Milton!!!!

  33. grapplefu September 17, 2016 2:56 pm

    23. That is correct. To use Pac12 Now, you need to subscribe to the Pac12 Network on your cable provider. That is how basically all of the channel apps work.

  34. Stephen Tsai September 17, 2016 3:12 pm

In case people are wondering, Tucson is 2,388 feet above sea level.

  35. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 3:43 pm

McKenzie Milton runs in for a touchdown! UCF takes the lead over Maryland! 14-10.

UCF band members wearing (fake) lei.

  36. kahuna September 17, 2016 3:54 pm

UCF’s offense is similar to Oregon’s potent offense which the qbs are pkaymakers. I think MM made the right decision to go there. Don’t think he would be the same in a Brian Smith offense.

That said…..if Cole Mcdonald can at least become a 50% passer like we have now…..he would be hard to stop. Someone with sprinter’s speed and a decent arm is the ultimate dual threat.

We lost out on MM but I’m excited about our young qbs.

  37. OCWarrior September 17, 2016 3:59 pm

MM looking more and more comfortable and confident as the game goes on. Very accurate passer.

  38. H-Man September 17, 2016 4:08 pm

17-17 tie. Good game. Let’s see if McKenzie Milton can deliver a W.

  39. Warrior Fan September 17, 2016 4:40 pm

Anyone have a link for tonight’s game?

  40. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 4:50 pm

    2nd OT, UCF vs. Maryland

What a way for a true Freshman QB to start his first game!

  41. warriorfan September 17, 2016 5:05 pm

surprise, surprise, dive play first play of the game…we are so ordinary…..

    Come, Rolo, lets be different……

    GO warriors!!

  42. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 5:06 pm

    Maryland wins. 3-0 record now.

    Back to Woolsey and friends.

  43. kahuna September 17, 2016 5:13 pm

Wow….MM got credited with 6 fumbles and 3 lost. I don’t care about the passing yards and stuff…….those fumbles are huge and no way anyone can be happy with that kind of performance.

Ball security is job one!!!!! Could have lost more than 3.

  44. MattO September 17, 2016 5:15 pm

Man… Arizona made that look eeeeeasy

  45. Inyoface September 17, 2016 5:17 pm

    Woolsey being Woolsey…

  46. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 5:18 pm

McKenzie did well in his first game. Threw. Ran the ball in.

At the end of it all, he’ll do better than the many-chances Woolsey.

    Yeah I said it.

  47. Boolakanaka September 17, 2016 5:21 pm

Anybody got a link to watch the game?

  48. Markazulu September 17, 2016 5:26 pm

Kahuku d stiffens in the red zone. Holds bishop to a fg but roughs the kicker. 1st down bishop gorman

  49. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 5:30 pm

    Defense is bad !!!

  50. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 5:31 pm

Make a QB change…IW doesn’t get it done.

  51. Andrew September 17, 2016 5:31 pm

    Another embarrassing national tv appearance

  52. MattO September 17, 2016 5:32 pm

Yeeeeah, D looks porous tonight, sadly. Ari’s had 82 and 88 yd drives in it’s first two possessions. Yikes.

    Aaaaaaand Woosley tipped and intercepted.

    Ugh.

This is shaping up to be a long night.

  53. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 5:34 pm

Make the QB change…future is now

  54. Inyoface September 17, 2016 5:34 pm

We deserve to lose starting number 11!!!!!!!

  55. Buffoman September 17, 2016 5:34 pm

To say the defense is bad is being kind. They look confused. It’s now 3 TDs them in the first quarter.

  56. kk808 September 17, 2016 5:34 pm

Thank goodness there’s Wahine volleyball soon….

  57. warriorfan September 17, 2016 5:34 pm

Could this be any more embarassing?

  58. Whats Up September 17, 2016 5:36 pm

    Wow, this is ugly early!

Take Woolsey out and put in anybody else at QB please!

  59. Inyoface September 17, 2016 5:36 pm

    Free Zwahlen

  60. NYUH September 17, 2016 5:37 pm

Missing Chow right now, but this team will get it together.

  61. H-Man September 17, 2016 5:37 pm

Oh boy, this got ugly waaaaay tooooo fast.

  62. oneseason September 17, 2016 5:40 pm

It is what it is. I just don’t want to see coach Rolovich sounding like Mike Leach before WSU took on Idaho.

  63. oneseason September 17, 2016 5:41 pm

    Nice drive & TD.

  64. Inyoface September 17, 2016 5:42 pm

    Lakalaka should be the starter!

  65. MattO September 17, 2016 5:42 pm

Cable cut out just before the TD… didn’t even get to see it. Thanks, AT&T.

  66. Moocher September 17, 2016 5:51 pm

Google front row sports click on the first one listed. Go to American football. Scroll down for the game. Click on the link but lots of pop ups. After all the pop ups cam watch the game 🙂

  67. H-Man September 17, 2016 5:55 pm

    Awwww…holding.

  68. MattO September 17, 2016 5:55 pm

Brutal… That was a crazy throw.

  69. Andrew September 17, 2016 5:58 pm

Woulda been a sack or even a fumble without the hold

  70. Andrew September 17, 2016 5:58 pm

3rd and 6. Don’t understand the run play.

  71. Inyoface September 17, 2016 5:58 pm

Offensive line has a ton of penalties

  72. tom September 17, 2016 5:59 pm

    GIID EVENING, HAWAII!

Just a observation but I been a Rainbow (Warrior) fan since I was at UH – class of 1954. Seen coaches come and go – Jimmy Asato, Tommy K, Tomey, Larry Price etc.
Most of the old coaches – was ground-game oriented, up the middle, end-run, reverse and once in a while, a pass.
Then with Brennan, Robinson, Rolo etc., it was pass-oriented and we got use to the scoreboard lighting up!

Running the ball up the middle wouldn’t be bad if we could SCORE.

    Just a comment.

  73. Buffoman September 17, 2016 6:01 pm

Hope I not jinxing the team but they seem to be playing better.

  74. MattO September 17, 2016 6:18 pm

    #68 – Doh.

  75. warriorfan September 17, 2016 6:18 pm

Do we only have one route in the whole passing playbook?

    slant, slant, slant….so predictable..

  76. Buffoman September 17, 2016 6:20 pm

Okay, I jinxed them, the defense looks bad.

  77. Inyoface September 17, 2016 6:20 pm

The defense looks bad cause the offense sucks

  78. Rodney September 17, 2016 6:25 pm

    Let’s go bows
    Bobby Curran is soo bad!!!
I have no clue as a radio
listener as to what the F is
    going on.
    Love his radio show though!

  79. Rodney September 17, 2016 6:26 pm

    Can we get another radio
    announcer?Please!!!!!

  80. Inyoface September 17, 2016 6:28 pm

Woolsey either throws out of bounds or over throws smh

  81. Buffoman September 17, 2016 6:34 pm

Hmmm, offense may be bad but the defense really does not look like anything old coach Tomey would be happy with. Bad.

  82. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 6:36 pm

Demote IW to the Scout team. He wouldn’t start on any other Div 1 team.

  83. OCWarrior September 17, 2016 6:38 pm

Until we can play some defense, it won’t matter who is at QB. This is the result of years of underwhelming recruiting classes.

  84. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 6:40 pm

Whatever happened to our big play defense? The only big plays are for the other team. Defense is porous and offense is stagnant.

  85. Hank September 17, 2016 6:45 pm

    #59 … Agree

  86. MattO September 17, 2016 6:46 pm

#78 – truth. When a team scores 37 in the 1st half alone, all phases are breaking down. Sanchez’s booming kicks are the only reason the score isn’t worse.

  87. Inyoface September 17, 2016 6:48 pm

You have to be kidding if you think the defense is worse than the offense.

  88. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 6:50 pm

Listening to 1420 am coverage and watching. Even Veneri going off ’bout this.

Getting to be where teams have been able to use Hawaii as scrimmage over the past few years. They can quite actually try experimental plays in a “safe” zone, so to speak.

Time to think lower division already. Make football for the students who can walk down from their dorms (because Lord knows that TC Ching field looks better than Aloha Stadium).

We shouldn’t keep football primarily because retirees “like tailgate.”

  89. Rodney September 17, 2016 6:50 pm

    Another body bag game lose
Can we figure out why Noth
    Dakota state is so sucessfull
    and copy what they do

  90. H-Man September 17, 2016 6:54 pm

I know the guys are trying real hard, but it hurts too much to continue watching. Sorry, but for my mental sanity, its time to switch to Wahine Volleyball.

  91. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 6:56 pm

North Dakota State is good. No secret there.

  92. Rodney September 17, 2016 6:57 pm

    #80
Absolutely correct it’s all phases of the game
    All three depend on each
    These TV games hurt recruiting?

  93. Azwarrior22 September 17, 2016 7:03 pm

I hope Rolo makes a QB change in second half.

  94. Maddog50 September 17, 2016 7:03 pm

Special teams a whole lot better. Tackling a lot better. Penalties not better. QB limiting mistakes. Simple observation-they like many others have a lot more talent. Last 4 years have brought a hand full of quality players-did not expect to win but they will win at least 4 and 1 full recruiting class will make a big difference. I belong to the “extreme optimism” club! Go Warriors!!!

  95. Warbow September 17, 2016 7:04 pm

Question for rolo… Why is it that almost after every opponent score I see #21 about 5 steps behind the receiver or running back?

  96. MattO September 17, 2016 7:05 pm

    #87 – I doubt they’re helping this year 🙁

  97. cocobean September 17, 2016 7:05 pm

Defense starts with the d line. We lost more from that unit than we added in terms of new bodies on the field. The middle of the line is not getting pushed off the ball that often but they can rarely get any penetration. The ends have been the weakest part on the line. They just can’t set the edges nor demand double teams on pass plays.

  98. Warbow September 17, 2016 7:07 pm

    #21 missed tackle again

  99. OCWarrior September 17, 2016 7:15 pm

I am not saying one unit is better than the other. We need improvement in all phases but the fact is we haven’t stopped anyone , including UT Martin, and we give up a ton of big plays. It almost looks like we are playing short-handed on defense with how big the holes are and how wide open receivers are. It is easy to focus on the QB but we have much bigger problem. I believe Rolo is heading the program in the right direction but the reality is we have a long way to go.

  100. whitey September 17, 2016 7:15 pm

This is the Warriors 4th game and it looks like it will be a long season. For me, the problem is not the players, but it is the entire coaching staff that needs to step up. Somehow they are box coaches who are afraid to go outside the box.

  101. Warrior Dave September 17, 2016 7:25 pm

Poor Gary Dickman. The calls to Fan Phones going be brutal.

  102. Rodney September 17, 2016 7:26 pm

Thank you Rolo for free Dru Brown

  103. Rodney September 17, 2016 7:29 pm

lets give AZ some reps in the
    4 th qtr

  104. OCWarrior September 17, 2016 7:30 pm

Warrior Dave…LOL….yeah Dickman should get hazard pay for that job, I stopped listening, the callers are crazy!

  105. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:32 pm

    I am comment # 100

  106. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:34 pm

Warrior NY ans NYUH, you folks doing O.K. there in New York? Stay safe.

  107. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:37 pm

    37-14, AZ

  108. Maddog50 September 17, 2016 7:39 pm

Great call great execution. Now a hold or turnover makes it interesting. Go Warriors

  109. tom-warriornation September 17, 2016 7:42 pm

Nice QB change–nice quick releases! Moved the team down the field for a TD!

  110. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:44 pm

    44-14, AZ

  111. Warrior Fan September 17, 2016 7:45 pm

Our defense is to slow on the edge SMH

  112. Buffoman September 17, 2016 7:46 pm

Wow, second and 20 and the guy runs for a touchdown! Beat that dead horse. Woeful defense.

  113. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:51 pm

    4th Quarter about to begin.

  114. Warrior Fan September 17, 2016 7:51 pm

    dru Brown looking good

  115. Buffoman September 17, 2016 7:53 pm

Are we trying to play fast with no huddle? Seems like the plays are slow to get to the qb. Or is the design just to keep the defense from changing personnel?

  116. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 7:56 pm

TD. Lakalaka. In increible Hulk fashion.

Least Hawaii ain’t doing worse than FSU.

    44-21, AZ.

  117. Warrior Fan September 17, 2016 7:57 pm

I think Lakalaka should be our starter. Whenever he’s in good things happen with our offense.

  118. 808 September 17, 2016 7:59 pm

DB led two scoring drives. Will that convince the coaching to stay with him instead of IW?

IW is probably going to have great practices the next two weeks and he will be named the starter for the Nevada game.

At least we know DB is back next season.

  119. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 8:04 pm

Next week’s bye will be a good opportunity for Rolovicz to call a press conference, oh, about Wednesday, to announce Brown as the new starting QB for the rest of the season.

I mean unless anyone predicts a strong vocal majority against such a decision.

  120. Buffoman September 17, 2016 8:05 pm

Looks like wet are about to hand over another td. Can’t seem to stop anything.

  121. Buffoman September 17, 2016 8:11 pm

    Anything on the Kahuku game?

  122. 808 September 17, 2016 8:13 pm

DB just looks like the QB who can lead this team. I don’t think IW is going to get any better.

    DB moving the offense again.

  123. whitey September 17, 2016 8:13 pm

Am glad to see that the coaches took a step outside of their box thinking and give their other players a chance. And it didn’t hurt.

  124. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 8:16 pm

The heck Hawaii got too many fuys on the field? Everyone wants the glory alla sudden.

  125. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 8:21 pm

Outright public outcry if Woolsey is allowed to start anymore. Would just be plain idiocy is Brown is not the starting.

Start your legacy NOW with QB Brown, Coach Rolowitz.

  126. Inyoface September 17, 2016 8:21 pm

    DRU BROWN

  127. Maddog50 September 17, 2016 8:21 pm

Lots to work on more to work with. It’s a loss but 28 points I will take that

  128. Chicken Grease September 17, 2016 8:24 pm

Maddog, imagine if Brown started this game? Have no doubt that we’d all be on the edge of our seats right now.

  129. Buffoman September 17, 2016 8:27 pm

We just cannot seem to tackle. Don’t know if we can fix that. You’d think by this point we would be noticeable improved.

It’s taken 4 games for Rolo to find out what many fans already knew – the QB that gives us the best chance to win has been on the sidelines all that time (when he could have been getting games reps & been that much further along in learning the offense).

Drew Brown gives us a better chance to win. IW reminds me too much of the Chow era. We need change!

    Sorry meant Dru Brown

DB led the offense to three scoring drives. If IW was left in for the entire game, Hawaii’s score would have ended up at 7 and Arizona would probably have scored 3 more TD’s.

Woolsey isn’t going to get any better. He had his chances. If he is the starter for the remainder of the season, we will be looking at a 3-10 or 2-11 season. Again!

I hope the coaches make a QB change now. The best defense for the team this season is for the offense to stay on the field and score a lot of points and keep the defense off the field.

Yes I think Drupal Brown is the qb to go with. Excited to see the next season with him at the helm

The way our defense gives up points, our offense needs to score at least 40+ points to have a chance to win. Part of the problem too is that our defense is not causing turnovers. Our turnover ratio must be close to the bottom in the entire FBS. I also thought that Dru Brown played well overall and he played smart and made plays, he led the team to 3 consecutive touchdowns in the 2nd half. Too bad he fumbled at the end, but at that point the game was decided by then. If anything, his play was a positive for the team. For Arizona was a super impressed by their running back, JJ Taylor, only a freshman and QB Dawkins, just a sophomore.

Most the points scored against us was in the first half cause the defense was always on the field!

defence is weak we need to make some changes there . maybe having some player playing 2 ways might help if we are that slow . and the running backs , Lakalaka is the best all around back hard runner and can block !!! and catch too.

It seems pretty clear that there should be a QB change.

Phew, bye week. Arizona had a big offensive line. Defense tired. Time for rest and recuperate. Time for coaches to reassess game strategy and players’ performance. Looking forward to the Nevada game. Go Warriors !!!

If anyone thinks that DB was ready to start after last weeks game they were grasping at straws cause he sure didn’t look ready. A week later, Rolo picked a good spot to give him some PT and he did a really good job except for the last fumble. Now he looks ready and the coaches have 2 weeks to prep him for conference play. The timing is perfect.

Wow, UH has the worst defense out of all the FBS schools.
