“Dream” comes true

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Eugene “The Dream” Ford, who plans to join the Warriors for the spring semester.

Ford had signed with the Warriors on Feb. 3. Although he graduated from University High School in Los Angeles in June, he needed to clear some requirement issues to enroll at UH.

“But we got it done, and we’re on our way,” Ford said. “I’ll be there for the beginning of the spring semester.”

Ford, who is 6 feet 2 and 200 pounds, is set to compete at cornerback or safety. This fall he has worked out extensively (plyometrics, explosion drills, hand-eye-coordination exercises) and keeping tabs on his near-future team.

“I’ve been following them the whole time,” Ford said. “I took (the delayed enrollment) as adversity in my life. I stayed positive to get through it, and now it’s happening.”

Congratulations Mr. Ford. Looking forward to cheering you on as a Warrior.

  3. jeezy33 December 1, 2016 9:22 am

Does Ford count against the 2016 or 2017 class? Huge if he can be counted towards 2016. Need a full 2017 class.

  4. al December 1, 2016 9:48 am

2016 I think similar to a grey shirt?

  5. J-Dog December 1, 2016 10:38 am

Awesome. Need to shore up that other safety spot next to Trayvon that was atrocious this season.

Is Trayvon looking to turn pro? If not, we should be good at safety next season with Trayvon, Lewis, Santiago, Ford. Curious about the development of Tullis and Tolliver.

  6. J-Dog December 1, 2016 10:39 am

Getting Watson and Kaniho would be huge as well. Bothello too.

  7. NorthShoreFan December 1, 2016 10:52 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Post from last blog said UH not on Agasiva top 3. Thought he accepted the invite. Seems he had to go JC to make grade. Only can offer and see if kid can make grades. Could be why other schools stayed away? Anyhoo, good luck on your choice young man. We want kids who want to play here and defend the rock.

E komo mai!.. Eugene Ford!…Let’s make the dream come true! Looking out for more Warriors coming on board!…CHEEEHOO!

Aside from the beginning of the season, this time till LOI is the most exciting for me!

    IMUA WARRIORS!

  8. Maddog50 December 1, 2016 10:54 am

Ford would be in this years count of 25 if the full complement is available. There were late additions and at least one other offered to existing roster. If I recall 18 were available due to prior commitments. As far as I can tell he is a 2017 signee.

  9. NorthShoreFan December 1, 2016 10:55 am

I thought grey shirts enroll but pay their own way…I could be wrong.
Does Ford retain 4 years of eligibility since he didn’t play in 2016? Counts as a freshman? Count towards 2017 class?
Anyhoo, just keep them coming Coach Rolo!

  10. NorthShoreFan December 1, 2016 10:56 am

    Mahalo Maddog50!

  11. NorthShoreFan December 1, 2016 10:59 am

My guest went back home last night. Going from 75 weather back to 40-+ weather as of last night.
Good to be in Hawaii boyz!

  12. Derek December 1, 2016 11:01 am

Don’t forget Hicks. If you ask me, I think the safety position will be just fine. I’m more concerned with cornerback.

  13. Maddog50 December 1, 2016 11:07 am

Greyshirts delay enrollment for many reasons. They are not bound to commitment but generally an LOI is submitted and the school honors that intent.

  14. Maddog50 December 1, 2016 11:09 am

A grey shirt is not on the clock till they enroll. IW was a grey shirt

  15. Duster December 1, 2016 11:25 am

#13, a grayshirt signs a scholarship agreement and not a LOI. Only the school is bound by a scholarship agreement, whereas both parties are bound by the LOI (or for the anal, NLI).

  16. Ipu Man December 1, 2016 11:34 am

I have a dream: UH goes undefeated next year…
And to help us shift that thought into gear, welcome
and Aloha to Eugene Ford ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. jeezy33 December 1, 2016 11:55 am

    12. Not all safety positions are equal. Just because you have solid safeties doesn’t mean each safety can do the same thing. Once Trayvon graduates, you don’t have safeties that can cover WRs man to man which Lempa will ask his safeties to do.
Lempa had Keala Santiago try to cover Thomas Sperbeck vs Boise and that didn’t end well. Not that many corners can even cover Sperbeck but only Trayvon is capable of covering man to man.

Thanks Jeezy. Enjoy the analysis you share on here. Are you a former player or coach? You sound like it…

  19. jeezy33 December 1, 2016 12:24 pm

    18. Nope. Just a die hard Hawaii fan like the most of us. I’m just neutral about where our program is and what we need to do in order to be top dogs in the conference again.

  20. Da Punchbowl Kid December 1, 2016 1:52 pm

Welcome to the Warriors Mr. Ford! Dream big, work harder!

I too like jeezy’s posts. We all dream the same dream!

  21. NotNasti December 1, 2016 2:29 pm

I ditto MM and DPK re: Jeezy33. Look forward to the objective analysis and insight.

  22. letsgowarriors December 1, 2016 3:06 pm

Hicks tore his ACL this season again, hopefully he can make a full recovery. but he will miss spring and probably some of the summer camp.

  27. Oahu December 1, 2016 7:33 pm

Miano DB’s and June Jones OC. We will be the champs with their recruiting and walk on program. Stuz and Smith are not too exciting and our DB’s are too slow, they need speed and quickness.

  28. iceebear December 1, 2016 8:31 pm

There were also some questionable losses (including the difference in scores) by MTSU, so hopefully it evens out and the game will be competitive. Just as important, I would like the see this team take a bowl game seriously under Rolo-as there has been a past history of not being prepared or focused, resulting in a loss.

  29. J-Dog December 1, 2016 9:48 pm

Let me guess, Jeezy. Single. No wife, no kids. No life. LOL!

  30. BallerHawk December 1, 2016 9:56 pm

Aloha my BRADDAHZ!!! After spending years in the states I can honestly say… there is no place like home!!! The quote you’re stuck on a rock actually translates to you’re stuck living ALOHA in paradise… Racism and No ALOHA truly exists on the mainland. So glad to be back! Now I can hang my hat and root for the home team! Glad to see things are on the right track! Did anyone ever doubt ROLO? He has the football smarts, He loves his players and loves Hawaii. Proud of ROLO! I say 2-3 more years and Hawaii will be competing for the MW Championship.
I’m glad we got Eugene Ford. The only knock on him was his 40 time was really bad. For a WR/CB/S… He clocked his 40 at 5.19 but I remember watching him play in CA and he does play faster than he clocks. Personally I agree with JDOG – Moku Watson and Kaniho would be AWESOME adds lets hope they get on these guys and get them to stay home! Although I think Watson already gave someone else a verbal. But until the pen hits the paper it ain’t over! Get these guys!!!!! Both of them play at very high levels, very fast, instinctive, and prevent separation very well. I hope Hawaii lands at least one of them!!!
Don’t forget about Sanitoa from AS. Any true freshman will have those mental lapses in games the only bad thing as a DB is…. When you have a mental lapse 70% of the time its 6 for the other team.
I really hope ROLO can keep the local boys home. Personally I think the local boys play harder, they have more pride when they are on the field and NO QUIT. Now you have talent at all positions plus the pride for playing for their HOME?
Can’t wait to see it! Really excited to see Hawaii on the upswing!

  31. Tempmanoa December 2, 2016 4:42 am

There are no real “name” teams in Conference USA. Only diehard football fans who follow teams across the country would know any of them. The best teams in conference USA have posted wins vs P5 teams and would be competitive in the MWC. They are a good matchup for us.

  32. boolakanaka December 2, 2016 6:40 am

Shout out of support for fellow bow and also my position coach—Nelson Maeda. There is not a nicer guy out there to promote the attributes of being a man and HS football player than Nelson. Castle is much poorer today, and if he wants, someone will pick him as their DC in about two Kaneohe seconds, or he can have another HC gig by the spring.

    Holumua Braddha Nelson!!!

  33. boolakanaka December 2, 2016 6:42 am

    And J Dog…let me guess—no self-esteem, equals troll.

Kick rocks brudhha….keep it light and convivial here!

  34. letsgowarriors December 2, 2016 7:03 am

how many recruits on OV to Hawaii this weekend?

  35. A-House December 2, 2016 7:08 am

    Duster #15:

your phrase in ( ) “for the anal, NLI”

I do not comprehend your continuity, please elucidate — do I think what it means?

  36. 808warriorfan December 2, 2016 7:32 am

#30 … “boo” … I’ve known Nelson a long time; worked with him … CLASS GUY; I agree Castle HS is much poorer today. Real bone head move by their Administration

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS !!!!!

Good morning AO, from one smart A to another, haha.

  41. Old School Dave December 2, 2016 8:00 am

Best of luck to Coach Maeda. Guys like him are the unsung heroes in our community helping to mold young people. The drive might be long, but perhaps there could be an opening at a certain “Gold and Black” high school school on South King St in town? Maybe, help return them to their “glory days.”
