Averill, Sedore named to MPSF first team

Middle blocker Taylor Averill and opposite Brook Sedore today were named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s first team.

Libero Kolby Kanetake, outside hitter Siki Zarkovic and setter Jennings Franciskovic were selected to the second team.

Two key omissions:

> Averill, who is widely considered the league’s best overall player, was not named player of the year. That went to UC Irvine opposite Zack La Cavera.

> Middle blocker Davis Holt did not even receive honorable mention. There were some matches when Holt dominated at the net.

Had UH won the regular season, I have a feeling it would have gone to Averill

  3. Duster April 23, 2015 10:02 am

Congratulations to the VB Warriors who garnered MPSF post season accolades. Davis can make Big West playoff opponents pay for his omission.

  4. haka April 23, 2015 10:04 am

    Congrats to the Warriors!
I think Averill would have had a chance if we won the league title.
Nice that the three second team Warriors will be back next year!
    Go Warriors!
    Beat da Beach!

  5. seewhy April 23, 2015 10:04 am

Congratulations to Taylor, Brook, Kolby, Siki, and Jennings! I am disappointed that Holt got snubbed. He was a major impact in the UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State series. Wow, not even honorable mention. No can!

  6. haka April 23, 2015 10:05 am

    Ha! Andrew, roger dat!

  7. Andrew April 23, 2015 10:18 am

Then again the only award that really everyone remembers in the end is the national champion.

  8. jimmy the lock April 23, 2015 10:19 am

Congrats to the Warrior Volleyball team!

  9. jm2375 April 23, 2015 10:19 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Congrats to my boys! Don’t agree with some of the selections, but I don’t get to vote, so…
Kolby should have been first team. I think he’s better than the UCI libero. I’m constantly amazed at how he can get those digs to exactly the right place when he’s flying all over the place.

Noticed Tuileta made the All-Frosh team. If he had come to UH, he probably would have redshirted or wouldn’t have played much, if at all. Ainokea.

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

    Imua football warriors!
Morning practice was very encouraging !!!!
With a healthy Max and team, just maybe,
a winning season!!! Gotta stay positive and hopeful.

  15. Rodney April 23, 2015 11:09 am

Thought I saw another DT today?

  16. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 11:36 am

    Go Warriors!!! 🙂

Like the picks, and agree with seewhy about Davis. Braddah was the glue in more than a few games, and is a fiery competitor! This team plays tough and most importantly, they play together!

See errybody at the Stanley on Saturday!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 11:40 am

Mahalo for the updates, Rodney. Encouraging news!

boola – since you had to go there, I will also need my food processor and cattle prod from our last date. And the food processor better not have even a trace of avocado in it!

  18. Boolakanaka April 23, 2015 12:16 pm

DPK, how dare you publicly take that tone with me??! While we are on the subject of returning things, I would appreciate you giving me back the following: the hawaiian bracelet I made for you out of aluminum foil, my prince hanalei 3 prong speargun, and my palaka adult diapers.

  19. Maddog50 April 23, 2015 12:17 pm

Nice to see some people lead instead of follow-Lynn Zwhalen’s donation to Coaches Choice-Football. She’s in the game!!!

  20. A-House April 23, 2015 12:26 pm

off topic, but still about family

yesterday’s paper had an article about a lady trying to deny biological father’s rights and the court seems to be against her position that since there was no intercourse, man is NOT entitled to parental rights

seems man agreed to provide the sperm and she used a turkey baster to get sperm inside

is this different from artificial insemination?

    jus askin!

  21. A-House April 23, 2015 12:32 pm

    #19:

sure proof that son will be at UH soon!!!!

still has to polish the skills he displayed as a HS senior – arm strength, quick feet, elusive, and speed – IIRC, he ran the anchor leg for his 4×100 track team

and, IIRC, he punted several times and the ball traveled well over 55 yards – do we have a modern day Paul Horning (sp) – like 50 years ago – only player to win the Heisman from a team with a losing record – ok, he played for Notre Dame

  22. A-House April 23, 2015 12:36 pm

am I showing my age? well, I still remember all the airplanes flying overhead at nite, sirens blaring, search lights on – AA gun crews manning their weapons – nearest gun placement was about 50 yards away – yep, it was WWII

BTW, I lie like heck or live in a dream world of yester year – damn old man!!!!!

  23. jimmy the lock April 23, 2015 1:04 pm

Wonder how the sperm got in the turkey baster?

  24. jimmy the lock April 23, 2015 1:05 pm

Wonder if boola or DaPK has a designer turkey baster?

  25. Darren April 23, 2015 1:13 pm

    Lynn Zwahlen is Aaron’s dad…

  26. DaveLetterMan April 23, 2015 1:20 pm

DPK & Boola, you guys too funny!

  27. Boolakanaka April 23, 2015 1:28 pm

DPK, how did Jimmy find out about the “turkey baster??” You promised me that it was only going to used for holistic healing to treat your gout??? How could you DPK–I trusted you!!??

  28. Maddog50 April 23, 2015 1:40 pm

Oops! The Zwhalens are in the game!!!

  29. 3-Prong April 23, 2015 1:45 pm

    Dpk &. boo….funny stuff.

  30. 3-Prong April 23, 2015 2:00 pm

…scosh on da warped side, but funny!

  31. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 2:22 pm

I trusted YOU boo! That baster was for my gout, and you knew it! Then you, with all of your lies and charms, held that poi pounder to my head and forced me to do unspeakable, wonderful things with the baster. I miss you Daddy… can’t we make this work? You can even keep the weed whacker. The gas powered one. 😉

  32. cocobean April 23, 2015 2:24 pm

Boo / DPK – Smart guys like yourselves should have known going in that long distance bromances are the hardest relationships to sustain. You two would have been better off just being friends with benefits.

  33. Boolakanaka April 23, 2015 2:35 pm

Cocobean, so true, so true. But, he lured me back in with the seduction of late night skyping–who knew he was recording all of this??! Next thing you know, I’m the 3rd fastest selling DVD in Malaysia –“pleasures of Penang”. And to think I bought DPK a super large box of Almond Roca, only to be betrayed–auwe da shame!

  34. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 3:26 pm

That’s right boola – I made you a star! I am soo over it! Have a great life. 🙁

  35. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 3:34 pm

    Mahalo to the Zhwalens!

  36. Da Punchbowl Kid April 23, 2015 3:39 pm

    *Zwahlens – sorry.

  37. jm2375 April 23, 2015 4:32 pm

And to think, I was there when boola & DPK first met…
    🙄 😆

  38. Trunks420 April 23, 2015 4:48 pm

Your too good for him anyway Boo.
Dpk will be begging for your pleasure and Touch late at night.

  42. H-man April 23, 2015 7:23 pm

ST, or anyone else, can you confirm this from today’s article on the Hawaii Athletics’s website; “Hawai’i football heads to Aloha Stadium for the first time this spring Friday night, putting in a closed practice at the fall home of the Rainbow Warriors to finish up the practices for the week.” So there’s no practice on Saturday?

  43. el burro sabio April 23, 2015 9:03 pm

Something stay jealous of DPK and Boola’s mating ritual

  44. boolakanaka April 24, 2015 3:49 am

    Fen jai–takes a fafa to recognize a fafa….

  45. cappie the dog April 24, 2015 5:33 am

    20.

I was watching a documentary by the great, but late filmmaker Louis Malle called “God’s Country”, a documentary about a farming community in Minnesota, in which one of its denizens inseminated cows by shoving his arm all the way up into their anuses.

And on that note, congratulations to Taylor Averill, Brooke Sedore and the rest of the men’s volleyball team on an excellent season.

  46. boolakanaka April 24, 2015 5:48 am

Cappie with that bit of agrarian news, I think I will now forgo my usual bowl of raisin bran for breakfast…..
