A season of will and grace

Of the five stages of loss and grief, one of them isn’t supposed to be gratitude.

But after the Warriors’ four-set loss to Penn State in last night’s play-in match, the players and coaches expressed appreciation for their hard work, the season’s “journey” and the support from followers new and old.

Head coach Charlie Wade always speaks of the “90 square feet” — their side of the court — in which communication and cohesiveness are important. “This is a sport where they have to rely on each other,” Wade said. It is why after every play, good or bad, a team gathers.

Last night’s match was the last time they would gather as a team. Seven seniors will go on to play for other teams or go on to the rest of their lives. They’ll leave with this lesson: Work hard, play hard, celebrate accomplishments, acknowledge opponents, shake hands … then eat.

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Great season for the MVB Warriors! They have much to be proud of and they are the nicest bunch of guys off the court you’ll ever meet. I’ll miss the seniors, esp Brook, Taylor & Davis. Getting to know the players and coaches is the main reason I joined and am active in the booster club.

It was either sizzle or fizzle…

    Prepare for next season.

Do it, break the camel’s back.

    GO Water Polo!

Bryan Clay in the news. He used a javelin to get his daughter’s loose tooth out.

The thing about deflated footballs, both teams used it and one still got blown out. Done, pau, Patriots still went on and won the Super Bowl.

Great season for Men’s Volleyballers. We saw a lot of great play by them this season. Have to agree with JM2375 – the seniors will be missed as players and a people. I hope the Warriors can build on their legacy going into next season.

Thank you Warriors for bringing us along on this great ride!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

Any time I use the same word three times in the same post, it clearly indicates a need for coffee. Please insert “awesome” and “wonderful” to replace two of the words “great” I used above.

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Beeg Mahalo to the Warrior volleyball team! You done good! Watching the games, you had the old people jumping in their seats and acting all crazy. Good for the circulation…most of them never had so much excitement since their wedding night! Anyhoo, new season just started so the slate is clean.

Jm, we need more like you!

    IMUA WARRIORS!

Interesting tidbit of news coming from a recent tweet…

Dennis Dodd ‏@dennisdoddcbs 9m9 minutes ago
MWC commish tells http://CBSSports.com his conference is in discussions with Pac-12 and host country about playing bowl game in Australia.

  12. Shoko May 6, 2015 9:23 am

Also, CBS Sports is declining their option to cover the MWC title game. New network will announced later.

  13. BigFan May 6, 2015 9:31 am

#8, Wasn’t it only the Patriots who used the deflated balls since they don’t share them?

Congrats on a terrific season for men’s volleyball. I understand they had a top recruiting class so looking forward to next year.

yes, Coach Wade got 3 LOIs from the USA Jr National team last year – getting one player is a coup, but to sign 3 – that is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

how well these 3 incoming players can ‘mesh’ with the returning players will be the key to their continued success in 2015-16.

I believe this is the most significant recruiting class, ever, for MVB team.

  15. A-House May 6, 2015 9:58 am

    DPK:

our best to you and Sweetie!

3 weeks ago – about 5:15 am – returning home from Kaneohe 24hr Fitness – on Kam Hwy next to Pali Golf Course – level stretch about 3/4 mile long

before I reach the H3 interchange, I notice a car with one head lite out – pass under H3 going up the incline, car with one head lite still about 25 yards behind me to the level stretch

as I level off – there are 2 cars, one in each lane, behind this car with only 1 head lite – keep going and suddenly I notice the 1 head lite car has disappeared and I can now see the double head lites, car in each lane, about 100 yards behind

OK, there is no place to turn off Kam Hwy to head toward Kaneohe and I can clearly see both head lites behind me – if the driver turned off his head lites, I would not be able to see the other car in my lane – it would block the head lites

Yup, looks like one of the best recruiting classes we’ve seen in years.

  19. seewhy May 6, 2015 10:43 am

What a great season of volleyball! I enjoyed every game because of the amount of energy the guys brought to the game. Will miss this group of seniors.

  21. Tiki808 May 6, 2015 11:36 am

It was a wonderful season to be with the UH Men’s Volleyball team 2015 making it all the way into the final 4. Another year. Next year again. Do it all over again. I enjoyed this team the most. Go Warriors! Bring it on!

  22. letsgowarriors May 6, 2015 11:44 am

what is Norm doing at the pac12 meetings?

  23. st. anthony trojan May 6, 2015 12:48 pm

If ur ‘GURU” there at Pc-12 MTGS…..then you do ‘guru” work n give all others advice…how to get more wins then losses this season…

  24. A-House May 6, 2015 1:47 pm

    #21:

indication that UH will represent the MWC to play against a PAC-12 team?

BUT, if game to be in the future, why is Norm Chow representing UH – should it not be the UHAD???

mine should not be to reason why, but live with the decision!
if so, heck of a recruiting tool for both teams; especially UH if former players are contacted by their local media to promote the game – hopefully, they will have a positive story to tell

  25. A-House May 6, 2015 1:51 pm

    I saw this posted today.

    To a beautiful friend:
Who matters, Who never did, Who won’t anymore… And who always will.
So, don’t worry about people from your past, there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.

  26. Tiki808 May 6, 2015 1:52 pm

    What time?
    Where?
    When? next year’s team meeting.

  27. Fei Jai May 6, 2015 2:53 pm

    Burp.

  28. papajoe2 May 6, 2015 3:20 pm

Norm Chow lives in California so could be saving UH money although, yes, I think the AD should be there. He also could still have contacts with the Pac 12.

  29. st. anthony trojan May 6, 2015 3:26 pm

    2 much bagong…then go a burp…he he he

  30. Da Punchbowl Kid May 6, 2015 3:48 pm

    Rurp. Furp.

  32. Old Diver May 6, 2015 3:59 pm

So is the rumor true that Naeole is out?

  33. Rodney May 6, 2015 4:52 pm

Ask Robert K if rumor is true! He would certainly know.
    Hope rumor not true

  34. Rodney May 6, 2015 4:54 pm

    June we need you!

  35. warriorfan May 6, 2015 5:07 pm

So any chance Charlie Wade will bring in a big time recruit for next season from the Netherlands?

  36. kapakahi May 6, 2015 5:09 pm

Come to think of it…..I didn’t see Naeole at this past Saturday’s scrimmage.

  37. kapakahi May 6, 2015 5:10 pm

Come to think of it……I didn’t see Naeole at this past Saturday’s scrimmage.

  38. Rodney May 6, 2015 5:34 pm

If Naole is out, hope not
Who on staff can replace him.
    Bailey?

  39. Trunks420 May 6, 2015 6:02 pm

#16 good story please tell more

  40. z May 6, 2015 6:53 pm

#2. Totally agree. Great season for men’s volleyball. Very exciting to watch.

  41. BigWave96744 May 6, 2015 8:47 pm

Heard Naeole was Down Under doing recruiting

  42. BigWave96744 May 6, 2015 8:57 pm

We can always start up June Jones rumors. Those are usually some good ones, no?

  43. Tempmanoa May 6, 2015 9:19 pm

Does not surprise me that Naole left. He did not see eye to eye with Chow– the recruiting trip to Australia was one point of disagreement.

  44. Da Punchbowl Kid May 6, 2015 9:59 pm

    Big Wave –

    Mahalo for squishing the rumors.

One only need to watch a pro rugby match from down under to see that Oz is a fertile ground for big, powerful, speedy athletes.

  45. jeezy33 May 6, 2015 10:34 pm

Bigwave didn’t squish any rumors. The article he posted is a week old… Heard naeole left

  46. bowwar May 6, 2015 11:31 pm

If true, Naeole leaving the program will be a definitely blow on the program…Makes you really wonder what the heck is going on over there.

  47. Boolakanaka May 7, 2015 5:19 am

Just 2cents, but Brady went down a bit with these recent events–including not going to the White House–saying he had a previous engagement–but then was photographed at Apple store buying an I watch. Whether you like the current president, one should have respect to the stature of the office…

  48. Maddog50 May 7, 2015 5:47 am

Do not know how or why rumors get started. The Mountain West meetings were this week and of course Norm Chow would be in attendance. As far as coach Chris is concerned this should be squelched immediately if not so. Distractions and other crap does no good at all for anybody. Hope to here clarification rather than lingering nonsense. Go Warriors!
