A good bye for VB Warriors

There are many benefits to a bye weekend. For the volleyball Warriors, they used it for the three Rs: Rest, recruiting and retention.

Some of the ailing Warriors were able to limit their play in the three practices this past week. Head coach Charlie Wade was able to do some face-to-face scouting in Europe. And the Warriors, with the fewest league losses, were able to stay atop the MPSF.

Six of the Warriors’ final eight matches are on the road, beginning with Friday’s start of a four-match road trip against UC San Diego and UCLA. What’s key is UH has four fewer losses than BYU. That’s significant because UH’s final two regular-season matches are in Provo. The Warriors’ wish is to open some space against the Cougars, who are 10-0 in Smith Gym this year.

1. Hawaii — 12-2
2. UC Irvine — 12-3
3. Pepperdine — 12-4
4. BYU — 10-6
5. USC — 10-6
6. UC Santa Barbara — 9-7
7. Long Beach State — 8-9
8. UCLA, Stanford — 6-8
10. Cal State Northridge — 5-10
11. California Baptist — 2-14
12. UC San Diego — 0-15

We’ve cobbled some more pro day 40-dash times. They were hand-timed, so the range could be wide. Here are the best times:

Beau Yap — 4.79
TJ Taimatuia — 4.76
Joey Iosefa — 4.71
Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson — 4.93
Scott Harding — 4.58
Taz Stevenson — 4.53
Donnie King — 4.62

Sean Shigematsu tweaked his hamstring during his first 40 run. He did not run a second time, but he participated in field drills.

The wonderful thing about the NCAA Tournament is that every time a lower seed beats a higher-seeded team, it’s just another exhibit that selection committees have as much (or little) a clue as the rest of us.

The committee members select the teams and construct the brackets. Vegas oddsmakers set the line on trying to balance the bettors on each side. But selection members set the matchups — their version of odds — based on their own research, gut feelings and peer pressure.

There are no Cinderella teams. If the shoe doesn’t fit, it’s because the committee ordered the wrong size.

Time to renew my season tickets……

  2. SteveM March 22, 2015 9:09 am

    Good morning everyone!

Renewed my season tickets last night along with AKA donation to boost my chances to buy parking. The H Club concept is great for squeezing more blood from the turnips at Aloha stadium. Only problem is it does little to get new turnips. But it is a good scheme in these lean times.

On the diamond, in the pool, and in the sand…Go Bows!

…awesome Spring Day in Paradise ain’t it!!

The renewal deadline for season tickets is March 30th. Hopefully the numbers will be good. If not though, I hope UH administrators will look to their own expense growth over time. The national numbers show a significant increase in university administrators and staffers over the last few decades. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/septemberoctober_2011/features/administrators_ate_my_tuition031641.php?page=all

Today’s Star-Advertiser poll questions is: “What should be done about the 40 year old Aloha stadium?”
The two answer choices are (a) Repair the stadium for $200 million and (b) Build a new, smaller stadium for up to $300 million.

    Steve M…
My t suggestion is 2 build the same size….same location…but if possible move it closer to Honolulu side….n smaller diameter for seating….so have a nose bleed section. just go up little more with escalators if feasible…n start it on the last game…we play… being a bowl game of course…

Build only half of it…so can be finish in 8 or 9 months…maybe sum pre-fab stuff or concrete…tear the old one down same time….so can get parking for the new one.. n use 4 swap meet…the other half be done after the season is over…so 25 thousand seats is ok for one year me thinks…

At the same time…build a simple parking structure similar as the sheriff…can even use same plans… 4 AKA use only for season ticket holders…and include on the top floor a like reception area with cafeteria….to be run by AKA… NOT STADIUM AUTHORITY…nothing fancy…just 4 those that maybe like to go early… have sumthing to eat…a few drinks watch TV…relax before n after games…nothing fancy…just basic…n a walking foot-bridge to the stadium….so can be used at halftime also…could also incorporate the AKA office there also…that would be ideal if possible…

And the posh boxes could be at the stadium…with more toilets….of course for the ladies….he he he

each and every year, power teams lose their freshmen and sophomores to the NBA and yet NONE, IIRC, are ever faced with APR problem that mid-major teams are encumbered with – WHY?

are their basketball players so smart that they consistently have a 3.0 GPA or higher? how many, if any, ever go back to college and graduate?

the NCAA concluded that the “cheating” scandal at/in North Carolina was an “academic” issue and not athletic; yet they penalize teams for low GPAs
and closely watch teams like UH wherein several players transfer or players cheat on exams and are dismissed from the program and/or school – taking “non-existent” class to raise their GPA and stay eligible is not connected to athletic good standing? I must be truly missing something!!!!!!!

it truly disappoints me that such an institution, NCAA, is all about what is “good” for colligate sports, yet turn a bind eye when Power5 schools are involved and to “punish” them, the NCAA blasts/comes down hard on non-Power5 schools

monku, monku, monku – yes, but without monku where would women’s voting rights be or civil rights?

all I ask is for $5.4 billion to do what a poor guy like me wants to do and none of it would go to the State of Hawaii or the Federal Government – lien and tax free – ha, what a dream!!!!!!

    Good morning Tsaikos!

I’m going thru vb withdrawals already. Only 3 home games left (including the MPSF first round). Hoping for 2 more after that. 😀 I hope that UH comes home 4-0 from this road trip. There will be large Hawaii crowds at the games. Screecher will make the trip down the hill to see them at UCLA. 😆
I believe, UCI still has to travel to Provo.

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

Well my take on them ‘Ghost classes’ there would be…if ne athletics involved in them classes…should be sum punishment 4 sure… n or investigated….

They need to move the 3 point line to nba length in college basketball.

  12. Tiki808 March 22, 2015 1:13 pm

    Who on KIF? Think!

  13. Frankie March 22, 2015 2:02 pm

I hope UH administration does not self impose a post season ban for men’s basketball. Look at what Syracuse did (same as UNC), years of academic fraud, ineligible players, forfeiting games, and coach still not fired. They get 1 year post season ban???? UH better not self impose since we fired the 2 coaches that are implicated in the NCAA allegations and ineligible player no longer with the team. Maybe, practice time reductions or few scholarship reductions (1 or 2) for a year. Please UH administration, read this post and do the right thing…we have self imposed enough.

A comment to an earlier poster. I rally don’t think you need t add to your donation to get parking They raised parking rates and there is no auction anymore. If I was to renew I would save $500. for my seats. How is that to increase donations Koa Anuenue. Whoever came up with H club is a poor business person.

Top seed #1 UH mv . Why politics? others suck!! Think!

    impressed with Taz’s time.
I hope he gets a shot. He’s good!

  17. hitman March 22, 2015 8:24 pm

aloha everyone !! so we are about a week away from getting a new AD at UH !! so does the new guy start right up or has to wait till june or july when BJ says he is going?

  18. Warrior Dave March 22, 2015 9:37 pm

    #6 SAT,

Build half of the new stadium in 8-9 months. Haha, thanks for the laugh if you actually think it can be done. When has any construction project in Hawaii come in on time and on budget.

  19. Warrior Dave March 22, 2015 9:45 pm

    #17 Hitman,

You ask a very good question. Of the two candidates that were mentioned, they ate currently employed so I’m guessing they are going to need time to tie up loose ends. Since money is tight and they continue to pay BJ until June, I would think it’s a good bet that the new AD would be effective end of June.

  20. st. anthony trojan March 23, 2015 12:05 am

    Warrior Dave… me had a dream…20 k chinese would be hired 4 the job…
    4 contracts out…1 for parking structure…2 the field….3…the first half 20 or 25 K…N 4…DEMOLISH THE OLD STADIUM…

Actually if they move it… can be 14 to 18 months…cuz they will still be able to use the old one..

Maybe by that time…if n when it rolls around…we will have a jumbo 3-d printer…then be a duck soup… he he he 20 printers going 24 hours a day maybe huh…???

Wondering if anyone besides myself when signing into this SA site is experiencing a pop up flag from, (internet explorer) which essentially says, “internet explorer is experiencing a problem with this page/site, and windows will shut down and advise you if a solution is found.”
I’ve called directly and spoken to SA support and they can’t figure out what the problem is?, yet, the internet seems to have an abundant subject(s) on this issue, however my not being computer savy, don’t have a clue what their talking about?
I’ve even had my own tech support group look into this and they don’t seem to be able to fix this problem, when I sign into the SA site; and it’s only this site??

  22. cappie the dog March 23, 2015 4:30 am

    21.

I think the SI website is responsible for slowing down my computer.

ESPN was the best platform to talk to other sports fans, but the trolls had to go and ruin it for everybody else. I enjoyed reading the dialogue between gamblers during all the UH games.

My favorite post: “Who’s this guy with the half-fro?”

During pre-game, the guy with the half-fro introduced himself as Artie Wilson.

Then the same guy posted: “Artie Wilson is a pimp.”

Now you need a Facebook account.

I guess I’m Super-Paranoid Rob Lowe, because I don’t want to make it easy for the NSA to keep a file on me.
