Interesting read about UCSD possible move to D1 & Big West.

    http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/feb/01/ucsd-students-division-vote/

Most interesting parts is regarding the Athletic Fees their students pay to subsidize athletics:

“Students now pay $388 in annual fees, and they will be asked to increase the fee by $480, phased over three years. The first year’s increase would be $180, followed by a $165 in the second year and another $135 in the third year.”

Those fees are more than what UH charges ($50 per semester). If UH charged similar fees (even the $388/year) the athletic department wouldn’t be in the red.

    -Aloha!

Thanks. The U-T first did a story Jan. 19 http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/jan/19/ucsd-division-one-change/

which I followed up on last week.

    1.

Don’t think the idea of increasing the athletic fee after UH announcing a limitation of amount of students being able to attend a basketball game would rally thrill the students.

    3. While the contract athletics has with ASUH limits tickets to 510, the department did not turn any student away on Saturday honoring the 700-plus requests.
