What will be the 5 beach pairs?

  2. uhfan February 27, 2017 10:36 am

Pics from the beach team practice. Noticed Ka’iwi Schucht is in a boot in one of the pics.

  3. Warriorfan February 27, 2017 10:39 am

Darn well no Schucht or Rooks will hurt this team.

  4. Warriorfan February 27, 2017 10:45 am

Maglio and weaver? Did not expect that.

  5. Warriorfan February 27, 2017 10:46 am

Did not expect Kan and Homayun either.

  6. kalihifc February 27, 2017 11:52 am

Zalapony/Iosia is surprising as well. Tucker/Martin seems solid. Who’s the fifth and sixth pair? Ozee and Huddleston? Veterans matched with newbies, but I’m sure they’re still some mixing and matching.

Puzzled. Where is everyone seeing the beach pairings?

  9. Cindy Luis February 27, 2017 4:48 pm

A little surprised that van Tilburg didn’t get player of the week but guess they thought UCI’s win over UCLA was bigger which gave Hershko the honor.

    2. SandBows are traveling 13.
you shouldn’t assume anything off the pictures from the link
Hall said these are the pairs for Friday’s opener
    1. Mikayla Tucker and Morgan Martin
    2. Nikki Taylor and Kaiwi Schucht
    3. Emily Maglio and Laurel Weaver
    4-5 could swap flights.
    they are
Carly Kan-Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee-Hiilawe Huddleston
    also traveling
Sydney Kidd, Cyrene Hertzog, Hannah Zalopany

    Osaka wins the scrimmage 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-15
Wahine used a lot of combinations, what is to be expected Tuesday night

  11. Cindy Luis February 27, 2017 5:02 pm

    Couple of things
Rooks still suspended for breaking a team rule
Schucht is in a boot and under medical supervision. She is wearing the boot at all times except during competitions, precautionary.

  12. Cindy Luis February 27, 2017 5:12 pm

Spoke briefly with Osaka coach Takashi Furutachi. He said Hawaii was very tall and his team was small. their tallest player listed at 5-9. but we agreed Osaka played typical Japanese volleyball, spirited and exciting defense. they are an all-star team representing six Japanese universities.
A little surprised that when I gave him my business card he said he had read my story in today’s paper about the UH men’s match.

  13. z February 27, 2017 5:31 pm

I agree. The Japanese have exciting defense. Fun to watch.

  14. Kazu February 27, 2017 7:37 pm

SandBows have a nice sked, good competition. To bad no TV coverage on Sand Volleyball.

  15. warriorfan February 27, 2017 10:32 pm

The beach team will have a few matches on ocsports. I think against Nebraska and USC.

Still wondering why Maglio is at 3 and with Weaver, Weaver was not in top 5 pairs at UCLA and didn’t look that great in the fall tournament but maybe she has improved and was with a different parter in the fall ( Zalopany I think). I thought Maglio would be with Homayun or Tucker and that Kan would be paired with someone over 6 feet.
Hope Kan/Homayun’s lack of size isn’t a problem.

  16. surfboy February 27, 2017 11:43 pm

    What happened to Annie Mitchem?

  17. rabbits ears February 28, 2017 9:08 am

How can the Japanese allstars team tallest player be 5-9″. That is crazy and to win the scrimmage? I guess nothing hits the floor!! We should try that, we have enough D specialist and liberos.

  18. Brandon February 28, 2017 12:52 pm

    My expected lineup
    Granato and sibley at OH
    HOWLING and burns at middle
    Maglio opp
    Iosia setting
    Kahakai Libero

If Greeley is healthy move granato to opp and maglio back to middle

  19. Ron February 28, 2017 1:07 pm

As Cindy has mentioned before, the new additions are not in school yet. I think you could start Castillo instead of Howling and that may be the starting line-up. Granado would be too exposed at opposite.

  20. rabbits ears February 28, 2017 1:20 pm

Maglio will come out firing this season!

  21. Cindy Luis February 28, 2017 1:52 pm

    14. there are a few matches on TV. look at their schedule online.

    15. this is the lineup Hall gave. May not be the flights they go with. it’s early and this is the competition team for now. may not be the competition team when they continue the season.

    16. Mitchem sill practicing. just not on the travel squad. they’re taking 13, believe they have 28 on the roster.

    18. none of the incoming recruits and have mentioned Greeley out for spring.
Granato not at Opp. It will be Castillo, Koelsch and Ross on the right side. Maglio is staying in the middle for now.

One correction on beach travel. It’s Sydney Shinn, on Kidd.

  22. warriorfan February 28, 2017 1:52 pm

Granato at OPP could work with a faster offense, and all she would worry about is hitting the crap out of the ball, and playing defense no passing , it would hurt us blocking wise though.

  23. warriorfan February 28, 2017 1:58 pm

I would love Coach Ah Mow-Santos to have Maglio at Opposite but that’s imperative on how fast Howling, Lipscomb or Williams adjust to the D1 speed , especially blocking wise.

  24. warriorfan February 28, 2017 2:04 pm

I am quite shocked that Annie , Emma and Norene didn’t make the travel roster for the beach team, but I think the beach only wahine have an advantage from training together since the fall.

  25. Ron February 28, 2017 2:14 pm

My take was that we must be loaded if these three excellent volleyball players were not traveling but I think WF hit the nail on the head.

  26. blunite February 28, 2017 2:22 pm

Hall may be pleasantly surprised by the lower flights (Carly Kan-Ari Homayun in particular). Kan thinks on her feet and compensates for her diminutive stature via her volleyball IQ.

  27. warriorfan February 28, 2017 4:31 pm

Hope Annie gets in the mix eventually, think she could be valuable to the beach team, especially on flight 5, paired with someone like Kan or Homayun, I think the other of those two should be paired with Maglio.
IMO two smalls might not work against USC who’s 4th flight is two 6 footers.

  28. Cindy Luis February 28, 2017 4:59 pm

    16. not sure why you think he’ll be surprised.

    17. how did Osaka win? they’ve been playing together for a while, including some Grand Prix matches. UH only been together for a few practices, still a little rusty. They were trying a lot of combinations, some worked, some didn’t. some unforced errors.

    24. first trip and yes the beach-only players have an advantage.
    27. I’m sure she will. Two words: IT’S EARLY
