Actually according to NCAA, Nebraska won the 4th set 25-19

  2. H-Man December 9, 2016 9:47 am

Nebraska not to be denied, wnning 5th 15-6.

  3. Ron December 9, 2016 9:49 am

Just finished watching Neb. beat Penn. St. If we played at the LBS 2 level we would have beaten either of those teams IMO.

    Hello Cindy:

    1st time on your blog

your critique on the 2017 and 2018 VB recruits?

want to see a “hammer” — been several years since UH had one — seems Shoiji going after the “finesse” OH and MB

current players don’t seem to have he “power” like Willouby or Collins or T Williams — I recall Eagye as a true frosh whom someone said had problem chewing gum and walking simultaneously — yet Shoiji was able to mold her into a force by her junior and senior years — she had an infectous smile!!

any player you see as an Eagye?

BTW, several years ago, she posted on Steven Tsai’s blog of married with 4 or 5 children and living in West Virginia

  5. jmy December 9, 2016 9:53 am

Shucks! I really wanted PSU to win it all…now I’m rooting for Stanford or Wisconsin…

  6. Andrew December 9, 2016 9:53 am

It’s depressing reading about the sweet 16 and not seeing UHs name there. Feels like its been forever since UH swept Penn State last year.

  7. Andrew December 9, 2016 9:57 am

I honestly don’t have any rooting interest in the teams left, but I really really really x100 do not want Nebraska to win.

  8. warriorwahine December 9, 2016 10:12 am

so big red does a little push comes to shove and gets awarded the immortal.

btw something i suspected could be done and confirmed it could be done, while cleaning up the overpass which na wahine should try next year, forget setting it but attack it instead, your overpass constitutes your set without norene having to do it for you.

  9. jmy December 9, 2016 10:37 am

    Ohio State leads Wisconsin 2-1…

  10. H-Man December 9, 2016 10:39 am

What a great match between Wisconsin and Ohio St.

  11. warriorwahine December 9, 2016 11:28 am

na wahine should of done to kansas state what wisconsin did to ohio state.

and that includes hitting it over in two as necessary.

  12. jmy December 9, 2016 11:29 am

Wisconsin wins in 5…Oh well, another upset falls short…

  13. Eric96822 December 9, 2016 11:39 am

    Hey Cindi,

What did Russ Rose say about his team being seeded?

I think Hawai`i should have been the 16th seed. Then we would have been at Nebraska and Nikki wouldn’t have landed on Wilhite’s foot!

    OMG, the butterfly effect. >:-/

  14. warriorwahine December 9, 2016 11:57 am

    14. sure. if they had beaten k-state and maybe u-dub that is.

  15. jm2375 December 9, 2016 12:11 pm

Can’t wait for MVB to start! Young team with some veteran leadership (4 seniors, no juniors).

    Quick glance at the poll:
    – 9 MPSF (including 5 out of 6 BWC)
    – 4 MIVA
    – 2 EIVA

  16. warriorwahine December 9, 2016 1:38 pm

the horns all of a sudden had to survive, come back and strike again.

  17. jmy December 9, 2016 1:50 pm

    Today’s upsets so far: 0-3

  18. jmy December 9, 2016 4:26 pm

Creighton about to upset Michigan in the 5th…

  19. jmy December 9, 2016 4:31 pm

    Creighton wins it…

  20. Eric96822 December 9, 2016 6:02 pm

Kathryn Plummer of Stanford is the 2nd coming of Nikki Taylor, but 2 inches taller. Similar build, power, demeanor, looks similar when hitting and blocking, great all around game.

  21. LanaiBoy December 9, 2016 6:07 pm

Minnesota defeated Missouri in four sets, thus ending the great career of Carly Kan. She had a terrific senior year and impressed everyone who had a chance to watch her on national television or on-line, especially against Florida and Minnesota (NCAA Tournament). Look forward to seeing her on Hawaii’s Beach team.

  22. Ron December 9, 2016 8:16 pm

UCLA won in 4, Play the Gophers tomorrow.

  23. H-Man December 9, 2016 9:02 pm

That UCLA – North Carolina match could have gone either way. I thought North Carolina would pull it out when they started to exploit UCLA’s vulnerability to the dink shot. Ring a bell? But the ball bounced the Bruins’ way.

  24. Cindy Luis December 9, 2016 11:25 pm

    4. haven’t seen any of the recruits play so hard to critique them. Shoji and Hall both high on the incoming classes, Shoji said Howling will be in the mix to help right away but you never know what will happen when the preseason training gets started.

Eagye was very raw when she came in and developed into a dominating player. mentioned her when she visited. We grew up in the same area of San Diego, she went to my dad’s high school. A number of tall children, living in West Virginia.

    13. as for Rose,
    http://www.ncaa.com/news/volleyball-women/article/2016-11-28/volleyball-question-marks-surround-penn-state-tournament

  26. 808 December 10, 2016 1:06 pm

Strange statement by Rose in the last paragraph of that article: “You have to be able to win on the road to win the national championship,” Rose said. “Do I think we’re a real threat to win the national championship? I wouldn’t say our body of work has demonstrated that. But there are two programs that have won the national championship playing college volleyball right now — it’s Penn State and Nebraska.

“I’d like to think there’s some experience that’ll carry over, but I can’t answer that question.”

TWO programs? The article was last updated Nov. 28, the day after the tournament selection. Did he forget about the titles that Stanford, USC, Washington, UCLA and Hawaii have won? I guess he was only speaking about the Big 1o teams, like none of the others stand a chance of winning it this year. Guess we’ll see. Nebraska has taken out Washington, but Stanford and UCLA are still alive as of right now.

  27. warriorwahine December 10, 2016 3:29 pm

looks like tree counterattacked and will roll their jumbo heavy tanks against the b1g

  28. Bleachercoach December 10, 2016 6:00 pm

It was GREAT to see Stanford to come back from 2-0 to upset Wisconsin in 5..
Well, Carlini sure knows how Nikki Taylor feels….Wisconsin loses 5 starters but return HAGGERTY…IMO “Freshman National Player of the Year” or Plummer from Stanford.

  29. Ashley December 10, 2016 6:22 pm

no surprise if Minnesota wins the National Championship this year. they have the easiest cake walk through this tournament. they host first & second round and they host regionals at home too. THIS TOURNAMENT IS RIGGED!

  30. Maverick December 10, 2016 6:45 pm

    29. Seriously, the same can be said for Nebraska and Texas, who also hosted the subregional and regional. Same for Wisconsin too, except they lost today. Minnesota’s regional is widely considered to have been the most difficult/loaded. Also, Minnesota is the AVCA #1 team in the nation. They are that good. That’s why no one should be surprised if they win it all.

When will the moaning and complaining about system rigging stop? This is so old. And none of it helps UH.

A few years ago, folks complained because the committee followed the RPI so closely when seeding (I believe one year, the seeds matched the RPI rankings exactly). This year, complaining because RPI not followed as closely (e.g., PSU). I can only conclude people will just complain no matter how the tourney is seeded.

  31. Maverick December 10, 2016 6:58 pm

    28. I don’t think any player in the tournament knows how Taylor feels. Who else ended her season and/or indoor career with an ankle fracture? At least Carlini got to play her last match. For Taylor, it is a question of what could have been. Worse feeling, IMO, because she was unable to help her teammates on the floor.

  32. kahuna December 10, 2016 8:14 pm

Well…..UCLA chance for a national title will have to wait another few years. This was supposed to be the team to do it. With 4 seniors graduating UCLA will be in a rebuilding mode for the next couple of years.

  33. noblesol December 10, 2016 8:56 pm

Some RPI comparisons through the first four rounds below. Just looking at RPI, the Minnesota bracket was the most difficult path to the Final Four.

Bracket Avg. RPI by round (the average RPI of teams competing in the bracket at the start of each round):
    Bracket (1) – [Nebraska’s bracket]
    Avg. RPI: 51; 21; 18; 05
Avg. RPI for first four rounds = 24
    Bracket (2) – [Minnesota’s bracket]
    Avg. RPI: 41; 20; 08; 07
Avg. RPI for first four rounds = 19
    Bracket (3) – [Wisconsin’s bracket]
    Avg. RPI: 51; 21; 17; 06
Avg. RPI for first four rounds = 24
    Bracket (4) – [Texas’ bracket]
    Avg. RPI: 43; 17; 10; 11
Avg. RPI for first four rounds = 20

Opponent RPI by Round; and Avg. RPI of all Opponents:
    Nebraska: 139; 20; 26; 06; Avg. Opp. RPI = 48
    Minnesota: 098; 23; 09; 12; Avg. Opp. RPI = 36
    Wisconsin: 159; 43; 34; 11; Avg. Opp. RPI = 62
    Texas: 123; 30; 07; 17; Avg. Opp. RPI = 44

  34. Eric96822 December 10, 2016 11:54 pm

#32 UCLA has a very strong recruiting class coming in. Alexis Light is a 6’5″ bomber.

  35. Kahuna December 11, 2016 9:44 am

#34…yes I know Alexis Light(Liliana’s sister)is joining the team but when you lose both middles along with two pin hitters and an all conference libero it’s going to take more then one big shot to carry a team….especially in the PAC 12.

Ryann Chandler is good but Van Winden is a little of a liability defensively. Going to take kind of a lot to replace Frager and Felix in the middle.

Cannot replace the big time playing experience the 4 seniors have.

  36. Eric96822 December 11, 2016 1:27 pm

So today is the day. What will Shoji announce. Or did I miss it already?

    #35
That is very true Kahuna. UCLA will be hurting … so will Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, San Diego and BYU among the top teams, as well as our Wahine. Stanford, Penn State, Washington, Florida and North Carolina and Kansas return pretty much everyone and Texas loses their setter and 1 starting OH but have the #1 recruiting class coming in.
