Wahine lose 0-4 to Slovenia, Koelsch injured

Long day for Hawaii. Drove from Milan to Verona for lunch and short stay, then to Venice to check into the hotel, then across the border to Gorica, played, dinner, then back to Venice.

We left Milan at 10 a.m., got back to the hotel after 11 p.m. Some heavy rains during the drives with thunderstorms. Supposed to clear up today (Thursday).

On Koelsch, she slid into the ref’s stanchion on the first play of Set 4, her first action of the night. Cut her right hand and they took her out.

Team doesn’t play Thursday so she’ll rest it and may be out Friday’s match in Moribor. Didn’t sound too serious but they will know more Thursday.

As for the match, some good moment and not so good. Slovenia obviously a veteran team with older players. One of the younger ones, Ziva Recek who will be a senior this fall. had a nice match. She is looking forward to playing at Hawaii in Sept.

UH gave up 8 aces as opposed to 18 v Italy. Still, couldn’t run what they wanted, passing pretty off. Some miscommunication which is to be expected when middles in the back row. Some big swings from the outside and 3-meter, particularly by Manu-Olevao.

Need to get to bed. It’s 230 and we have a long day starting in a few hours.

Deceiving statements: “One of the younger ones, Ziva Recek who will be a senior this fall. had a nice match. She is looking forward to playing at Hawaii in Sept.” At first I thought you meant that she was going to play at Hawaii and for Hawaii. Then did a quick search and found that she’s on the Gator’s roster so will be a visiting player in September when Florida comes to town. Tricky.

There were similar miscommunication during the match against Texas where the Wahine watched the ball fall to the court. Passing was also spotty so little has changed in 3 months. But hey, they’re there for the experience and fun.

Thank you for the update, Cindy. What a relief that Kendra’s injury wasn’t serious.

    3. Serious enough that she is out for the tour as a precaution.

    4. Thank you
