BYU will be inspired by UCSB’s upset victory against Pepperdine to come on fire against UH. I fear very much an upset especially on Senior night there. Hawaii will have to be extremely focused and consistent to stop their onslaught. Go Bows!

  2. Cindy Luis April 16, 2015 8:44 pm

It’s always tough for UH at BYU. Warriors have only won in Smith three times, last time in 2003. have lost the last 11 there.

  3. warriorfan April 17, 2015 12:20 am

Last time UH was at BYU, they were robbed with that bad call on Nick West that took away Jace Olsen’s kill that would have tied it at 14 in the fifth.

Time for UH to get payback, would love nothing more than for UH two sweep both nights.

  4. WaWa April 17, 2015 2:09 am

I’m pretty confident in UH sweeping the series despised being in Provo at Smith. Was never thoroughly impressed with BYU even when they were 100% healthy. IMO, ball handling and terminating are their weaknesses.

The altitude may cool off UH’s serving game a bit, but I’m anticipating only enough to make the match interesting. UH in a series sweep. I think one match is a sweep and one match is in four sets.

  5. WaWa April 17, 2015 2:10 am

    Despite*

  6. Chink April 17, 2015 5:53 am

    3. I thought the call was on Joby Ramos for a back row violation. I know the BYU announcers were saying it was West on the replay for crossing the center line, but if you watch the replay of the game, the Head Ref gives the back row “over” sign and points to Ramos, even motioning a touch sign as to say the BYU player got a piece of the ball when Ramos set it one handed.

  7. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 9:24 am

3 & 6. It was a very chaotic finish for sure.
UH radio guy who was there (my son) said it was Ramos who was called for the violation.
Either way, it was a bad call and officials didn’t seem to want to discuss it to make it right.

  8. Andrew April 17, 2015 11:34 am

    7

Have you ever been there before?

  9. karmady April 17, 2015 1:49 pm

Warriorfan, for once we agree! They got hosed at Smith Fieldhouse two years ago, but the ‘Bows will get their revenge tonight and tomorrow night. And for the record? I’ve softened my attitude on Charlie – but I DO believe a big reason the Warriors have improved so much is due in large part to Milan Zarkovic’s contributions, as well as Spencer’s – and the team members have said as much in their interviews. Charlie has assembled a great team – both coaching staff AND the players on the court, and he deserves credit for that.

When the Warriors take the national championship, it will have been a team effort all the way around, and no one could ever find a finer and more deserving team, university, and dedicated fan group.

  10. Brandon April 17, 2015 3:12 pm

These announcers are about as biased as they come. My god, it’s awful. I’m about to mute my tv.

  11. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:18 pm

    10. well it is BYU TV.

  12. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:18 pm

UH right now is not blocking or digging anything, they need to get that going.

  13. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:20 pm

Sedore bolocked. Cougars up 15-12 at the TTO

  14. Brandon April 17, 2015 3:20 pm

I undertand that Cindy, but hawai’s announcers are never this bad. Neither is the radio. Has BYU always been this bad?

  15. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:22 pm

    UH still no digs, unbelievable.

  16. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:23 pm

    12. pretty much neither team is. UH 2 digs, BYU 3. UH 0 block, BYU 1

    http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=74874

  17. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:24 pm

meant still no blocks. that connection with Averill is not looking good right now, hope UH wakesup.

  18. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:24 pm

ok Kupono came to play today, thank god.

  19. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:25 pm

Radio is the same as TV. It is simulcast.

  20. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:26 pm

    15. look at game tracker. UH has 3 digs.
Warriors have closed to 18-17. TO BYU

  21. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:29 pm

Jennings and Averill are just trying too hard on their serves. need to do what Kupono is doing and just keep it in play.

  22. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:30 pm

Sedore hitting error off a low set from Zarkovic. BYU up 23-21. TO UH

  23. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:31 pm

Jennings is going to Sedore too much in this set, needs to go back to his middles. Uh is passing well enough. Hope Jennings improves as the match goes on, his location has been shaky.

  24. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:35 pm

BYU wins 27-25 on their second ace.

  25. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:36 pm

Darn UH just can”t block anything.
hope the block figures out these BYU hitters.

    UH should have won.

  26. Ty April 17, 2015 3:37 pm

I agree with you brandon. Its annoying that I gotta listen to them. I just hope hawaii destroys byu and brings the MPSF tournament home!

  27. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:38 pm

    23. if you are watching the match, you’ll see where the block is for BYU. they are camping on Averill. Seedier is the first option. It hasn’t always been Franciskovic setting Sedore.

  28. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:39 pm

8 Yes I’ve been to BYU several times when I was the beat writer for the Star-Bulletin.
    14. Hawaii announcers are not working for a school owned and operated TV station.

  29. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:43 pm

Siki’s name hasn’t been mentioned much at all , he needs to get it going for UH to pull this out.

  30. Brandon April 17, 2015 3:45 pm

    Kolby is struggling tonight.

  31. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:45 pm

    28. disagree but … ace by Zarkovic ties it at 7

  32. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:47 pm

29.Kanetake has only one dig ( not good) , and BYU is blocking, Uh is not.

  33. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:48 pm

finally a block. Uh still isn’t playing well though, hope they wake up.

  34. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:49 pm

    31. if you are watching the match, you’ll see Kanetake hasn’t had that many opportunities for a dig. BYU libero Reyes has 1 dig.

  35. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:50 pm

might want to try a setting change.

  36. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:50 pm

Averill blocked. BYU up 15-10. at the TTO

  37. warriorfan April 17, 2015 3:50 pm

    33. anytime he’s in the backrow it’s an opportunity for a dig.

  38. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 3:55 pm

4-1 run by UH, closes to 17-14. TO BYU

  39. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:00 pm

Baby Sander with a kill, puts BYU up 20-16. TO UH.

  40. Brandon April 17, 2015 4:03 pm

    SET FEY.

  41. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:05 pm

Holt with a block, UH closes to 23-21. TO BYU

  42. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:07 pm

    BYU up 24-21. TO UH

  43. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:09 pm

Zarkovic hits long. BYU wins 25-21.

  44. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:11 pm

Siki is just not playing well except for his serve. If he doesn’t get better, try Hartley.
I honestly think Wade should have made a setting change instead of taking out Sedore. Brook got some terrible sets when he got blocked.

  45. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:12 pm

At least Kolby somewhat woke up and got some impressive digs late in set two, need way more of that to pull this out.

  46. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:13 pm

    44. he did get bad sets, and not all were from Franciskovic.
Zarkovic still not 100 percent. He hasn’t been elevating all that well. He also is going up against a 6-8 blocker.
UH unable to run the middle. Don’t think Averill had a kill in Set 2.

  47. 'ohanaInBellingham April 17, 2015 4:20 pm

I guess it takes more than the usual day or two of practice to adjust the service game to the thinner air. Since we don’t have the service game, we need to step up the blocking. BYU is sending six hands to the net more often than we are. Unless we can resurrect our block, S3 will be more of the same. Kolby has adjusted to the slightly faster balls. Come on Middles and Bigs, you know what it takes to win!

  48. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:26 pm

Okay I dont agree with Brook not being in.

  49. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:27 pm

Hawaii has never played well in Smith. has only won three times over the years. Can remember in 97 playoff, UH was winning until Millar went down. It energized the Cougars and BYU went on to win.

  50. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:28 pm

Nice back set by Averill. UH up 10-8

  51. Brandon April 17, 2015 4:28 pm

This has been the fey show.

  52. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:31 pm

Averill needs to show he’s the player of the year in the rest of the match, he needs to take over.

  53. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:32 pm

UH up 14-11. TO BYU, Cougars didn’t wait for the TTO.

  54. Brandon April 17, 2015 4:34 pm

Don’t agree with the chest bump. A little too much show boating by UH Imo.

  55. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:34 pm

Jennings bad serve is back, but I think it’s cause of the elevation.

  56. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:36 pm

Cougars have tied it at 15. TO UH

  57. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:36 pm

Siki is seriously dissappointing today, not sure if UH can win with him playing this way.

  58. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:36 pm

    54. they’ve been doing that all season.

  59. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:38 pm

BYU 5-0 run, takes its first lead at 16-15. Sedore back in

  60. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:40 pm

    UH up 19-17. TO BYU

  61. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:41 pm

Kupono needs to play this way every night, he has the potential, he’s hitting with confidence today which is great to see.

  62. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:43 pm

BYU has come back to tie at 19. TO UH

  63. Brandon April 17, 2015 4:44 pm

Not like that Cindy. That was a little too much, and for the record, I’ve always thought UH showboated a little too much.

  64. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 4:49 pm

    UH wins 25-21.

  65. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:49 pm

okay finally, UH got lucky with some bad BYU errors, they need to pick up their game and win the next two, hopefully Siki will pull through and be his usual self in these last two sets.

  66. Andrew April 17, 2015 4:56 pm

Time to dig deep and fight back like they did against UCLA

  67. warriorfan April 17, 2015 4:58 pm

okay seriously try Hartley coach Wade. Siki’s offense is hurting the team.

  68. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:01 pm

UCI served this BYU team off the court, UH trying to keep it in but serving easy.

  69. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:03 pm

okay too many hitting errors now, can’t win when you give away easy points.

  70. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:05 pm

BYU up 15-11 at the TTO.

  71. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:08 pm

Wow another error. What a bad way for this win streak to end. UH killing themselves. 🙁

  72. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:08 pm

okay that setting change was a wrong move in this set, should have subbed out Siki instead.

  73. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:09 pm

    BYU up 19-12. TO UH.

  74. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:12 pm

Fey with 2 kills, pulls UH to 20-14. TO BYU

  75. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:17 pm

    BYU up 24-17. TO UH

  76. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:19 pm

BYU wins 25-17. Fey with a career high 19 kills

  77. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:20 pm

Just disappointing. Too many errors, the block was lethargic, digging didn’t get going till late in set 2. This set 4 just went south in that rotation, when Siki and Holt up front and neither could put anything away.

This loss hurts a lot, quarters in california now.

  78. Andrew April 17, 2015 5:22 pm

    79.

    Semifinals. Granted they advance

  79. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:23 pm

I am very dissapointed in coach Wade for not using his depth in set 4. Just no way around that. BYU wasn’t even serving that tough for Hartley not to have been given a shot.

Only positive is that it’s a loss now instead of in the post season.

  80. 'ohanaInBellingham April 17, 2015 5:26 pm

Not the ideal scenaior, but great job to Pono for figuring out BYU. I can only imagine that Siki wasn’t sub’ed out because no one else proved during practice that they could do better. I haven’t lost confidence in Coach Wade.

    Thank goodness we weren’t swept.

  81. Big Island VB fan April 17, 2015 5:26 pm

Sad but not surprising UH lost. Now Irvine will host the semifinals and finals. No way would they lose to San Diego. We all feel deflated.

  82. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:29 pm

    82. Harltey has more than proved he is capable, against Pepp/USC. Siki didn’t have it, it happens sometimes players just have bad days and they don’t recover, as a coach you should realize that and make a change!!!

Anyway that’s the last I will rant about this, very disappointed in coach Wade tonight. Oh well, time to get a win tomorrow for Rpi’s sake.

  83. islandman April 17, 2015 5:30 pm

Qtrs still in Hawaii, Semis likely in California.

  84. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:36 pm

    79. yes, UH hosts quarterfinal. Semis-final at the highest remaining seed.

  85. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:38 pm

    83. UCI also has to win its quarterfinal to host. No guarantee there

  86. Cindy Luis April 17, 2015 5:39 pm

UH is 3-22 in Provo. have lost 12 straight there.
Warriors did get tentative on their serve. But then the complaints would be about how many SEs they had.

  87. warriorfan April 17, 2015 5:46 pm

okay hoping this loss, where UH just played bad.
    lights a fire.

If Siki shakes this off and plays back to normal and Fey keeps playing like tonight, UH will be very dangerous and they have showed they can win at Irvine already.

  88. WaWa April 17, 2015 7:29 pm

Watched the first two sets and I guess they’re serving (or lack thereof) made it more than an interesting game. Definitely did not see that coming. UH was not as sharp as previous matches, I wouldn’t blame it as much on the altitude as much as I would put it on BYU really meshing with this makeshift lineup. Too bad for Josue, did not realize his injury was that serious since he continued playing for some of that match in which he injured it. Hopefully the Warriors figure it out tomorrow and claim their share of the MPSF regular season title (unfortunately on Jaylen’s senior nite).

  89. haleiwacrossfitter April 17, 2015 9:07 pm

    Disappointing loss…for sure. Oh well.

Not sure why the bench was not used as much this game. I kept waiting for it to happen, but it never did. No Radner, no Hartley, only some of Jones and no Garret. The bench is what carried us through some matches we almost lost.

    BYU announcers were annoying,
Brandon…BYU was celebrating WAAAAAY more annoying than UH was. Lots of glares and words through the net from them. And the local boy BYU libero running around and jumping like a little kid and slamming the chair when they lost set 3….that dude was ticking me off.

  90. rayson April 18, 2015 12:13 am

Hopefully, they (players and coaching staff) pull it all together tomorrow and ruin BYU’s senior night.

  91. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 7:16 am

    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=30219

new thread up for Saturday. Will be gone most of the day and be at UH sand this afternoon
