Had mentioned this last week. There’s the updated info from UH

The University of Hawai‘i women’s volleyball team continues its tradition of bringing in top-notch competition, hosting national-power Texas in a spring exhibition match on Thursday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center. The Longhorns, NCAA champions in 2012, were a national semifinalist last season.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, Jan. 23, and fans can purchase tickets online (HawaiiAthletics.com), visit the Stan Sheriff Center box office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or call (808) 944-2697 during the same hours.

All seats for the match will be general admission with the exception of reserved courtside seating. Prices are $15 for adults, $8 for senior citizens (65+), $5 for students ages 4-high school and UH-Mānoa students with a valid UHM ID. Courtside seats (available through ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue) will be $25 and can be purchased by calling 956-6500.

Hawaii and Texas will play for the first time since the Wahine upended the defending champion and top-ranked Longhorns at the Stan Sheriff Center in the opener of the 2013 season. Texas won the Big 12 title last season before falling to BYU in the NCAA semifinals.

    Cindy
Did the Wahine have their banquet already?

I hope that if McKenna doesn’t get to start, that she gets some court time. Last year’s back row needed her talent.

    2. Did I miss something? Granato enrolled early? Otherwise she wouldn’t be able to compete in the exhibition match against Texas.

It would be nice if Mckenna or Annie enrolled early and took Huff’s scholarship this semester but i doubt it.

I wonder if UH will be bringing in a transfer now that Huff is seemingly going to be on a basketball scholarship or if they save it for the 2016 class?

    3. max13. I assumed that it would be okay since it’s an exhibition. You might be right that she would have to enroll early. She’s ready for D1 based on her showing in the Under Armour AA match!

    1. ‘banquet’ as mentioned earlier was Monday, the 19th. Team chose not to have a banquet but did a boat day out of waikiki with water toys. When I spoke to Shoji, he said it was fun. believe the last time they did it was 83.

    2. not sure where the ‘granato playing’ came from. Have heard nothing about her enrolling early. Think it was just OIB throwing it out there without realizing that high school seniors, even though they are committed, are not allowed to play unless enrolled in school.

Mitchem is finishing her degree at IVC.

5 No, don’t know who is playing in the indoor match. I’ll be a sand practice today and see if Hall knows.

As for the scholarship, it appears likely that Huff will stay on basketball scholarship next year IF Beeman and Shoji can work it out for Huff to have more time with basketball in fall.

But if that happens, Shoji says it will open up a scholarship. He’s given it to a returning walk-on in the past but there is time to look at someone else IF it happens.

Scott Wong was in Hawaii recruiting this week. Asked Shoji if that concerned him. He said no. But that Wong does have connections with players here obviously.

Nothing more on the Molokai clinic other than they’re trying to make it work. Hard with the sand season conflicting.
