Wow. Thompson made it. What’s the use of having 3 setters if you don’t have enough hitters?

I couldn’t case less about our women’s national team this Olympics. I don’t know why, maybe because there are no Hawaii connections on there after a long period of always having one. Too much dang Nebraska on there. Ugh. I’m also not a fan Karch. I won’t deny this guy’s success and his claim to be one of the best male volleyball players of all time, but I have never really got a good vibe from him. Always seemed to cheer against him…no matter who he was playing against or with.

Plus, he took 3 setters on a roster of 12. How the heck do you justify that? Obviously he has favorites and pets, and clearly Thompson is his main one.

He left Fawcett off the team. Who I felt was a lock. She is a smash mouth slammer. We will need someone like that at some point. I think his decision to take Thompson screwed their medal chances. My picks are now Brasil, China, Serbia…in that order. I don’t think we even make it to the medal round. Top 5 finish is where I see this team. And for being ranked #1, that would be a HUGE disappointment. Especially after 2012 when they were cruising to a gold medal until Brasil put the brakes on that.

Call me unpatriotic if you like…but I just don’t give a damn about the US Women’s National Team this year.

The men on the other hand. Looking forward to all the blood that will be left on the court after all the wars that will be going on. This field is wide open and anyone can take it. It will be a bloodbath. Can’t wait!!!!

Taking Thompson is a head scratcher especially since she is not effective as a serving sub and Murphy and Lowe tend to struggle in big matches, taking Fawcett would make much more sense or Hagglund since Banworth has health issues.

Taking Fawcett and having 3 opposites is just as silly as having 3 setters (unless you consider that Fawcett could play left side too.) Murphy and Lowe were killing it early in the Grand Prix when they were making final decisions.

3 Setters is crazy to me too, but he really loves the Double-Sub thing and doesn’t want an injury to change the system like last year.

Agree – having just one legitimate libero in Banworth is a troublesome, leaving Robinson as the likely backup libero. I too would have added Nicole Fawcett for her versatility and competitive fire – and dropped Thompson. To be fair to Courtney, she appears to have put in a lot of time and effort as the chief mascot/cheer leader for the team’s promotional activities.

If something happens to Banwarth and Robinson ends up being our Libero….oh my. We won’t even make it out of the groups. That would be disastrous.

Pet Thompson is no use as a server, hitter, setter or libero. And that is just the truth. She is there maybe for leadership and her competitive fire, but we already have that on the team with other players like Larson, Dietzen and Foluke. I find no use for Thompson at all.

The “Karchettes” (as Hooker called them) are a very uninspiring group to watch.

Ok…sorry, I’m done grumbling. Sorry for doing that here.

    2. a lot to say from someone who doesn’t care ‘-)

was a bit surprised too. but the men only taking one libero in E. Shoji.
