    2. Long Beach State
    play-in
    BYU vs. Barton.
yes, pretty much everyone called this. Good job.

  2. Warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:07 am

    Is it in Columbus?

  3. Warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:08 am

I meant psu/UH in Columbus or at SSC?

  4. WaWa April 23, 2017 7:09 am

    Yes.

  5. Warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:11 am

Time for UH to get revenge on PSU.

  6. pacesetterhawaii April 23, 2017 7:25 am

Hawaii will have a very good chance in the championship game. They just have to play their game and they can beat Penn St. and Ohio St. Go Warriors!!!!

  7. WaWa April 23, 2017 7:28 am

I am hoping that because this is an NCAA Championship that ESPN will have the broadcasting rights & not that FLOVOLLEYBALL.

  8. warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:30 am

I don’t think flovolleyball would fly out to Columbus. I would assume OCSports will like two years ago? I know the championship is on ESPNU.

  9. pacesetterhawaii April 23, 2017 7:31 am

7 It’s possible that ESPN will broadcast it. They had been broadcasting the game yearly.

  10. warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:32 am

6.Hopefully Mol will be ready to play by then.Hope it’s just a grade 1 sprain.

  11. Ron April 23, 2017 7:34 am

I like this bracket. We were going to have to play OSU at their place eventually anyway. We are better that PSU unless we play like we did in games 2 and 3 against LBS.

  12. warriorfan April 23, 2017 7:37 am

OSU has a really tough server. But if Ball State could almost upset them UH can also, just need the pins to show up and play and pass well.

    Updating with times
Fourth-seeded Hawaii (26-5) will face fifth-seeded Penn State on May 2 at Ohio State’s St. John Arena. The Nittany Lions (21-10) earned the EIVA’s automatic berth.
It will be a rematch of the 2015 NCAA tournament play-game won by Penn State at Stanford, Calif.
Match time is 2 p.m. HST.
The Hawaii-Penn State winner will advance to the May 4 semifinal against defending NCAA champion and top-seeded Ohio State at 2 p.m. HST. The Buckeyes (30-2) earned the automatic berth from the MIVA.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Long Beach State has a bye into the other May 4 semifinal. The 49ers (27-3) will face the winner of third-seeded BYU and sixth-seeded Barton in the other play-in match on May 2 at noon HST.
The Cougars (24-4) were an at-large pick while the Bulldogs (23-5) earned the automatic bid from Conference Carolinas.
The championship is set for May 6 at 2 p.m. HST.

I was at that championship play in game in 2015 at Stanford in which PSU won but I think this Hawaii team now can beat them in this rematch. Hawaii just have to play what they are capable of. Just a good vibe on this!!

    No opening round telecasts ?
” The semifinals will be streamed live on http://www.NCAA.com and the championship match will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Eastern time on ESPNU.”

I like how the bracket worked out for UH, but am a bit disappointed (though not surprised) that the NCAA decided against allowing BYU and UH to host their first-round matches. I can understand the NCAA not wanting to make Barton and Penn State fly out west for those matches. But I have to wonder, if Barton and Penn State had been the higher-seeded teams, would the NCAA have hesitated to make BYU and UH fly east to play them in their home venues? I can imagine the NCAA rationalizing such a decision by arguing BYU and UH would have to fly east anyhow if the matches were played in Columbus, but it’s still unequal treatment. Tournament participants should not be competitively advantaged or disadvantaged based on their proximity to the Final Four location. To ensure fairness the NCAA should decide whether schools will be allowed to host first round matches BEFORE the participants and seedings are known, not after.

I think everything fell into place and created a “true” championship feeling with all the favorites winning so they decided to have it in Columbus.

My gut told me if Grand Canyon, Barton, and maybe another “small time” volleyball school were in the final 8, they would have had it at another site due to lack of interest in those team. But with all the top teams making it thru, its only smart to hold it in OSU due to high interest. I’m sure UH and BYU will bring a pretty good crowd to Columbus. The other schools could barely draw flies…LOL

cool thing for team. Pilot found out about the bracket, they announced over the loudspeakers and passengers clapped from what Fey told me.

  19. Andrew April 23, 2017 1:18 pm

I actually like the way the bracket is set up for UH. I mean it’s not ideal to travel all the way there for the first match but they’re gonna have to go there regardless if they want to advance. Might as well get acclamated. also I like that UH is not on Long Beach’s side of the bracket. Wouldnt not want to see them unless it’s for the championship

    17. I can’t see a lot of Hawaii fans making the last minute trip to Columbus. Plane fares alone are about $1,300 when I last checked Friday. Will the band even be going up? Maybe if there is a generous donor. Two years ago at Stanford: a much easier trip, plus a LOT more Hawaii expats. With much of the BYU vball crowds being students, don’t see them bringing a lot of support to Columbus as well. As far as the home crowd, they only had 562 vs. Ball State and 1,020 vs. Grand Canyon. This in the spacious St. John Arena (13, 226). Getting tickets shouldn’t be a problem. I actually though about going up. But what if UH loses to Penn State? I would hate to be stuck in Columbus from Wednesday thru Saturday. In 1996 there were last minute travel packages via Panda for the Final Four. Of course you are taking a chance UH would be in the Saturday final, but it there was no play-in and it was LA.

  21. amela April 23, 2017 4:58 pm

Wow I didn’t know only 8 teams get selected. Congratulations to the men’s team, make us proud.

  22. warriorfan April 23, 2017 5:15 pm

    21.It’s 6 teams.

  23. Kahuna April 23, 2017 6:42 pm

Maybe not many Hawaii fans can make the trip but a few will and I’m sure some of the players parents will look at this as a rare opportunity to go the final four and will make the trek. A chance to see their sons win a national championship is rare.

This situation may also allow some of the parent of kids from the east/Midwest to see their kids in uniform. It’s a good chance for Mr/Mrs. Solbrig…..Mr/Mrs. Rosenmeier…..Van Eekeren Family and even the Reese family to see the sons. I think UH will have a pretty good crowd support. Not as much as we would have in Cali but still should be pretty good.

  24. vballfreak808 April 23, 2017 9:59 pm

    23. Van Eekeren and Reese are both redshirting so they would not be making the trip unless they pay their own way and sit in the stands. But Solbrig will so his family can come and see him. Hopefully all the Hawaii fans come out to support.

    NEXT YEAR’s tournament:
Will there be only 1 at large berth next year? I am assuming that 1 of the at large spots turns into the winner of the Big West Conference (or BWC tourney). Was this discussed before and does anyone know the answer?

  26. livealoha April 24, 2017 8:54 am

    25. There’s thought that next year the tournament will increase to eight teams. Hoping for that. Good for the sport and three at-large berths will get more deserving teams in.

  27. Cindy Luis April 24, 2017 1:20 pm

    16. consider the other scenario that Knipe floated out.
they could have easily gone regional, sent Hawaii to BYU for ‘West” regional and Barton up to Penn State for East.
They weren’t going to fly Penn State out to Hawaii and I don’t think BYU put in a bid. This is finals week I believe and the studesn’t aren’t around.
    25. 1 at large unless as 26. they expand to 8.
    thinking it will happen.
