Saturday checkin: TV, Greeley status

Still working on the links for you to watch live. Mentioned earlier that I had been told it would be on ESPN3.com. But I am not seeing that now on the schedule.

Someone on the previous thread suggested that if you have Oceanic, you can buy the Sports Pass for under $10.

Also, the match is on the Pac-12 network via Pac-12.com/live I don’t know if there’s a charge because the link isn’t available until game time.

Another way to link is to go to NCAA.com, click on the volleyball bracket box Hawaii-Washington. it will send you to the link that, at game time, should say “watch live” Again I don’t know if there is a charge as it isn’t active until game time.

Spoke with Greeley this morning during team’s breakfast, which was followed by study hall in the hotel’s breakfast room.

She estimates the ankle being at 90 percent. She seemed to be walking fine but I’m sure it will be a game-time decision if she starts.

Also chatted with Magill. She said she expect even more family and friends to be down tonight. some of them couldn’t make it because of work or the bad traffic. She said all of her cul de sac was there, which is mostly her family. It included her dad, who has rarely been able to see her play because of work. He was there last night. also saw her sisters for the first time since she moved to Hawaii in summer.

Yeah, Magill’s family and friends, plus Megan Huff’s family and friends, gives Hawaii a “hometown” advantage. Go Wahine!!!

I watched some moments of the 2012 2nd round match @ UW again on youtube. That was an awesome match and they were literally a swing away from that huge upset. I really think the team can do it and you can definitely see the desire and confidence in the team and the coaching staff. Its also encouraging the team is starting to peak at the perfect time. Hopefully they can slow down Vansant.

  3. Andrew December 6, 2014 9:46 am

Hoping LBSU can upset UCLA as well. If both teams can advance that would be a huge statement for the conference. The WCC has already lost one of its team and only BYU remains. As much as it pains me to say seeing BYU advance would be great as well to see more non Power 5 teams go further into the tournament and also the same for Colorado State

  4. heluhelu December 6, 2014 10:18 am

As CL says above, game broadcast apparently locked into Pac-12 network. Must subscribe via TV provider (Oceanic, HawTel etc). Re Oceanic, they tell u to subscribe via channel #999, except pressing 999 on remote causes box to turn-off. So, press guide button, key in #800, scroll until #999, press OK/enter, press compass left-arrow (next to OK/enter) to yellow-highlight TWC Sports Pass, press OK/enter, when soccer-player graphic is displayed, start pressing A-yellow B-blue D-green buttons until yes-no confirmation with subscription price ($9.xx/mo) is displayed, press A/B/D again to receive Oceanic confirmation number. Once confirmation number is displayed, access to (Oceanic) Pac-12 channels immediately activated.

  5. heluhelu December 6, 2014 10:20 am

#4 me stupid. “… press compass [RIGHT-arrow] (next to OK/enter) to yellow-highlight TWC Sports Pass …”

hope the wahine do well today…n keep the pressure on…

  7. Pot-of-Gold December 6, 2014 10:49 am

Hawaii better come out strong, it is going to be important not to allow Washington to get the crowd behind them tonight. Plus it is important to keep Washingto on its heels, as they are the type of team that will build in confidence as the score goes in their favor. Keep them close and they won’t just be out there swinging away, they will start to think about what they are doing, advantage to Hawaii.

Love the band and cheer team addition for Hawaii, you could see the energy impact last nights game. It could easily be a very entertaining game tonight with both squads going full out on all levels of the game, volleyball, band, cheer, and fans.

  8. OrbitalRipZ December 6, 2014 11:48 am

Something no one mentioned on this blog yet. Throughout the season, several people were complaining that the Wahine’s one match followed by another match the very next night was unfair to the squad since the visiting team was playing only one match.

Yet I am wondering if the experience of playing one match followed by another the next night has actually helped to prepare the Bows for NCAA tournament play. True, this is a different situation since all Round 2 teams are in the same situation of having played a match and less than 24 hours must play another, but I just think the UH is better off for having had that “2 nights in a row” schedule.

    Go Bows!

  9. Ron December 6, 2014 11:58 am

Thanks Heluhelu., I signed up with no problem. Interesting observation OBZ. Go Bows!

  10. wildcard December 6, 2014 12:14 pm

    8. yeah that back to back play thing was only complained by fans/bloggers here. i dont see any problem with their schedule being status quo. only disadvantage but rather slight is of course other teams in bigwest gets to be rested and scout uh if they are playing the second game but not like thats terribly a problem as protested by fans. all other teams in the bigwest except for the beach and maybe csun and ucsb are ‘weaklings’ compared to na wahine.

  11. po'okela December 6, 2014 12:17 pm

how did greeley look at practice?

did shoji keep her out as a precaution?

  12. Kazu December 6, 2014 12:18 pm

    7. Read on VT someone mentioned that the UH Band was rude during the introduction of the Duke players last night. I think its going to be a close match.
On any given day the underdog can win,i am hoping that today is the day for the Wahine.

  13. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 1:01 pm

kazu — yeah, it was a uw poster who mentioned it on VT. he’s pretty reliable too.

it’s a poor way of the band paying it forward, after it was mentioned on the broadcast and by cindy that a generous donor paid for their trip, and that UW even let the band borrow some instruments.

  14. Big Island VB fane December 6, 2014 1:44 pm

Please explain how was the band rude? At UH when they introduce the opponents, the band just plays a few monotonous notes, not terribly insulting, but ho-hum. How did they differ here? I can’t imagine yelling at the players. Hope they won’t act rudely against Washington tonight or their fans will jeer them. They better be on their best behavior.

  15. Hightop December 6, 2014 1:47 pm

Eh, it was ONE person who said the band was rude and he’s rude himself. Other UW fans either didn’t hear/notice it or thought it was inadvertent. Taking it with a grain of salt.

  16. jmy December 6, 2014 1:48 pm

So far SC playing well against UNC…

  17. Hightop December 6, 2014 1:54 pm

It’s ridiculous to give ONE volleytalk doofus so much creedence here. Who cares what he thinks?

  18. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 1:55 pm

jmy — yup. unc just doesn’t match up well with usc’s size at the net, and unc passers can’t handle bricio’s serve. unc floor defense kept set 1 close, but over the course of the match it may not be enough.

this is the 1st place team in the ACC vs the 10th place team in the Pac-1.

their in set 2, and still plenty of vball left …

  19. NinthIsland December 6, 2014 2:03 pm

I am pissed right now that it’s not scheduled on espn3. DirectTV in Vegas doesn’t carry Pac12 network. Ugh… I’ll just keep checking espn3 till start time just in case it shows up. Watched last nights game like 3 times already. Lol. We need to leave it all out on the floor tonight. All or nothing. 110%. Let’s Go Bows!

  20. 808 December 6, 2014 2:04 pm

kazu (12): IMO, neither the band nor the cheerleaders were rude to anyone. Re the band, they were located on the upper level loge on the far side of the court from Duke. I didn’t notice them doing or shouting anything rude. I think on VT, someone also mentioned that the cheerleaders were rude or unsportsmanlike by doing the Rain-Bow cheer “over the Duke team” or something like that. They were doing the cheer right in front of the Hawaii section. If the Duke team or any of their supporters, most of whom were seated behind the team bench for games 1 and 3, thought that the cheer was unsportsmanlike, I didn’t notice. From what I saw and heard, you’d have to be overly sensitive to take offense to anything that the band or the cheerleaders did.

  21. Andrew December 6, 2014 2:06 pm

People must be running out of things to talk about if they’re talking about band and cheerleader etiquette…

  22. Big Island VB fan December 6, 2014 2:15 pm

In the second set UNC had three set points and finally got a clutch kill. Score is 27-25 in the second set. USC had won 25-23 in the first set. So far, a very close and exciting game with lots of tremendous digs on both sides. Very entertaining match to watch on ESPN3.

  23. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 2:16 pm

    4. thanks for directions on how to order the network.

Re: band. Was across the way from them and didn’t hear them do anything that was not their normal routine at home.
As we know. sometimes people post comments just to incite reactions and then the false comment gets passed along as truth.

    11. didn’t go to practice. it’s more of a walk through. But was told that Greeley practiced, was wearing KT (kinesiology tape) on her right leg. should give added support.

    19. your only recourse may be online through NCAA.com or Pac12.com

  24. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 2:18 pm

    19. I would be surprised that with all the casinos showing sports that one of them wouldn’t carry the Pac12 network. Of course, that means you’d have to leave your house.
Wouldn’t be surprised if all the transplanted Hawaii people are watching some where.

  25. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 2:20 pm

going to put a new thread on the matches going on. may take a while for it to show up. Until then, the link is:

  26. jmy December 6, 2014 2:28 pm

    Miami playing well against UF…

  27. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 2:35 pm

well it’s good to hear another perspective regarding the band (and cheerleaders, apparently). no one was chiming in to refute what was being said on VT… i’ve had interactions with that VT poster before, and he tends to be one of the more reasonable posters there. that said, it sounds like he was unfamiliar with the routines things that the band and cheerleaders do, couple with some over-sensitivity perhaps …

  28. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 2:45 pm

the unc-usc match is now being played more evenly … unc starting to wear down usc … they’re 1 set apiece, and a very tight 3rd set

  29. Big Island VB fan December 6, 2014 2:54 pm

Again, UNC wins a tight set, 25-23. So far every set was won by only two points.

  30. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 3:11 pm

unc playing with a lot of emotion now … usc falling apart … time to switch over to uf-miami 🙂

  31. NinthIsland December 6, 2014 3:14 pm

    24. I agree Cindy…the only casino I expect to show that game is possibly the California hotel…they always show Wahine volleyball in the sports book.

  32. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 3:39 pm

nebraska wins set 1 against utah … a close one, 25-23.

utah on top of neb early in set 2, 6-2 … could be a good match

  33. jmy December 6, 2014 3:52 pm

Colorado & CSU tied in the 5th…

  38. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2014 4:15 pm

Neb up 2-0 in sets over Utah … both sets were close. Neb leading Utah in the 3rd

  40. NinthIsland December 6, 2014 4:17 pm

37…Lmao…I was thinking the same thing…who is UALR?

  41. vbfan4life December 6, 2014 4:19 pm

and UALR is actually up in the 4th set too. Think are gonna shoot up the rankings and possibly be ranked in the final polls now

  42. vbfan4life December 6, 2014 4:20 pm

let’s hope the Bows can use the UALR and CSU examples of beating up on the PAC-12 teams. I guess that goes for LBSU as well. Let’s go mid-majors! Go Bows!

  43. Cindy Luis December 6, 2014 4:24 pm

  44. NinthIsland December 6, 2014 4:25 pm
