Revised Wahine schedule: last 6 matches on road
Schedule that comes out Tuesday (in the paper as well) is different from what was given for season renewals a few weeks ago. The biggest change was the UCI-UCD series where they swapped the away matches originally in October with what was scheduled home matches in November.
Shoji said the problem arose with the weekend of Nov. 13-15. Football on Saturday had Wahine playing Friday-Sunday. Then men’s basketball decided to have a tournament with a couple of doubleheaders. For whatever reason, preseason basketball took priority over conference volleyball.
Said the best solution in his mind was to swap out the matches, which puts Senior Night on Nov. 1 followed by six matches on the road. They’ll come back after the Beach-CSUN matches then have four matches on the road, combining two road trips basically, and play Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.
It does mean they are home for six straight after the first road trip. There is an alumnae match during that time. Didn’t have the date for that.

unfortunate, disappointing schedule. but like shoji says … it is what it is.
still though, i just don’t like that most of the travel/road matches is done in the last month of the season. could lead to some tired/exhausted players heading into the ncaa tournament.
also disappointing to hear that pre-season basketball got priority over volleyball. it’s probably more than that though. with all the budget issues for the athletic tournament, the revenue possibility from an additional bball tournament was likely the motivating factor.
i hope shoji got something good in return for being so accommodating … or at least a valuable chit that he can call in later when needed.
JMO after viewing high lights of Natasha Burns believe she has lots of potential. On defense she gets to where she has to, to make the block and jumps high enough to be effective. On offense she jumps higher, however, it looks like she’s not taking advantage of her approach. Believe Shoji and staff will clean that up. With additional strength and better training, believe she’ll be very good. Has anyone viewed any recent video? The ones I’ve viewed are dated. Lots of speculation on how skilled the other 3 recruits are. Seems like we have more info on the latest recruit than on the other 3. Lots to be excited about….and great for the program and department.
#4 Totally agree and have posted earlier that I thought she was naturally athletic and quick. Give her a year or so to hit the weights and improve her skills, and we should get a glimpse of what she can do.
To bad volleyball is getting kicked around between football and basketball. P— me off. Its always the same reason that those sports brings in the most rev. Seems like Idaho and Wichita State was here not to long ago. Nice to see the Shockers back. Down to four months and counting.
Hope the rpi is high enough this year for the wahine to host in the NCAA tournament.
It would be a shame for the last home match to be on November 1st.

7. that was my thought as well. very sad if the team never plays again at home after Nov. 1.
I would have liked to have seen Senior Night closer to the end of regular season. Hosting would be great, but regardless, it would be nice to give the team a boost from the SCC fans going into the tournament. UH Athletics hasn’t posted the MBB schedule yet, so it will be interesting to see which teams will be participating in the MBB tournament. With quality teams and some wins, Coach Ganot and AD Matlin can show this negative adjustment to the Rainbow Wahine schedule wasn’t for naught.

9. don’t know how much Maitlin had to do with the decision. He started work yesterday (Monday). Things were decided before that.
