Pestolesi, Taylor, new assistant
Pestolesi is here with wife Diane who is being honored by UH’s School of Nursing Thursday night. They’re still in the process of finishing up paperwork. He will be an unpaid volunteer while on sabbatical from IVC
Think his first official day is Aug. 1.
First day of practice is Aug. 8
Shoji will miss about a week while he is in Rio.
Ran into Nikki Taylor. She leaves Thursday night for the OTC as part of the 19-player training team. They should be be announcing the 12-member team next week.
As for the new assistant, Shoji said he received about 20 applicants. He gave his preference to the administration for approval today. Announcement likely Friday.

Pestolesi is a great addition. Maybe he can light a fire under Annie.
Don’t think it would be possible to find a better volunteer assistant.
I expect a breakout season by Annie.
Wonder if Tom’s daughter applied for assistant job. She played for UCI and has been coaching DII . Who ever it is i hope its female for the players sake.

1. don’t understand your comment about ‘lighting a fire’ under Annie. Mitchem took a while to come up to speed at DI, hampered by her missing much of preseason and then injured towards the end.
3. Don’t believe she did apply for UH. Was just hired as head coach at Cerritos College.
While I agree that there is a need to have a female on staff, that shouldn’t be the main requirement. You want the best person for the job.
Pretty sure people will be happy with the hire.

Cindy, Mitchem was pretty lackluster at times last year. Watch her when she warms up versus the other wahines. They were amped up, she was not.
Some players get ready in different ways. Played with some ballplayers who looked kind of laid back but with the first pitch or jump ball…dang da animal came out..

why does how she warm up matter?
People complain if a player smiles too much because then it means they aren’t intense enough to their liking. Or they complain if she doesn’t smile enough because it means she’s mean.
Different players, different personalities, different game faces.
Annie did’t look very excited when her fingers looked like pretzels either, thats just the way she is. She will be great this year.
Hope everyone is right. Because we need Annie to be big this year. This could be our year. We got the talent.

I agree with Cindy. There were just too many things going against Mitchem last year – mainly coming in much too late and making it impossible to get up to speed with the team and the tempo of D1. However, Annie will be a force this year and having Pestolesi there will make it even better. She is just too good. In the season ending match against Minnesota, I was wishing that if only Annie was available, we would have the size and power at OH we needed when Greeley could no longer play. And yeah, it is not going to happen but my vote for next coach is still Tom & Diane.
Is the new coach Heather Bown? I’d be happy with her always been a favorite of mine.
