Someone asked how the players reacted to being introduced to her. Shoji’s intro wasn’t complete. He didn’t mentioned that she was the 1996 NCAA Player of the Year.
Which leads to another pet peeve of mine.
UH should do a better job of showcasing its great players. Why not have big jerseys put up for people like Collins, Ljungquist, Kamana’o, Katz and even basketball players Judy Mosley and Anthony Carter? And at least banners of the Olympians such as Ah Mow-Santos, Stanley, etc.
OK enough about that. Anyway
Ljungquist is in Hawaii on vacation, to visit friends and ‘recharge’ as she takes a break from law school in Stockholm, Sweden.
Said Hawaii is the best place to do that recharging. She spent the day at the beach. Didn’t ask if she had gotten some beach volleyball in. After her indoor career in Europe she also represented Sweden in FIVB competition, the majority of the time partnering with former Wahine Karin Lundqvist.
She’s in the middle of law school. In Sweden it takes 4 1/2 years. Think she’s starting her third year and next spring will concentrate on a specialty. Said she hasn’t decided on it yet because she’s enjoying all of her classes, but definitely something internationally. Suggest sports contract law and she says, There you go.
Has been coaching club in her hometown of Valuntuna a little. Said she doesn’t think about how long it takes to get to Hawaii because it’s worth it. Said she flew from Stockholm to NY to LA to HNL. all on United.
Didn’t want her picture taken since she had just come in off the beach but perhaps I’ll convince her if she comes to the scrimmage.
