No surprises for Hawaii’s lineup
Zarkovic, Sedore, Averill, Kanetake, Holt, Franciskovic. Fey.
unfortunately Uh only has the radar gun on one side. If you watch at home, there is a bloc on the left of the scoreline with the MPH.
Sedore with his first SE in 3 matches. UH up 10-9.
UCSB up 15-13 at the TTO via the setter’s dump
UH hitting 333, UCSB 474.
Sedore 4-0-5, Fey 2-1-3, Averill 1-0-2, Zarkovic 1-1-7, HOlt 1-0-3.
UCSB up 19-16. TO UH. a little sloppy passing for the Warriors
Hawaii ties it at 19. TO UCSB
Great solo block by Holt. UH up 21-20
Another block, mostly by Zarkovic. UH up 22-20. TO UCSB UH’s third straight block
Hawaii serving for the set at 24-22. Looked like Zarkovic got the touch. no call. it’s 24-23. TO UH
sedore ends it. 25-23
Great set by Fey to Sedore and then a kill by Fey. UH up 6-11.
Sedore a ridiculous 9-0-11
it’s 11-6. TO UCSB
UH up 14-9. There’s a delay due to a technical problem with the Stats system.
Basically Averill ran over the stat monitor on a previous play
Technical problem is an understatement. Averill ran into the laptop and broke the screen…
thanks. mentioned that.
UH up 15-9 at the real TTo
If you notice how tight the pass is to the net .. Milan Zarkovic has told Franciskovic not to worry when it’s too close for Holt since Holt has such a great standing vertical.
UCSB has closed to 17-14. TO UH
Another UH block, this by Averill and Zarkovic. it’s 22-18. TO UCSB
Impressing nubmers for UH
Averill 10-0-11, Sedore 10-1-14.
UH was up 24-20. SE and an ace by UCSB makes it 24-22. to uh
Zarkovic with the kill. ends it 25-23.
2 more blocks and UH up 7-4 TO UCSB
UH up 15-10 at the tot.
Averill playing like a first team all american and then some and Holt seriously stepped it up.
Hmm, UCSB has closed to 17-14 after being down 17-11. TO UH
Interesting that different players play star roles on different nights. I wonder if it’s because opposing blockers key in on the most prolific players in the previous match which they watched on video and then scouted them out. They either block them or slow them out. I see that Averill, Sedore and Zarkovic take turns on most kills and highest kill percentage. Since I can’t watch, I can’t assess the energy levels and accuracy of hitters.
UCSB closes to 23-22. TO UH
24 much depends on who the opponent keys on. some give up the middle. nice dig by UCSB leads to a point. it’s 23-23
Argh. UCSB now up 24-23
refs let some stuff go. UCSB wins 26-24
Seriously, that is a bad way to lose a set… Hawaii really could have used Averill in the front during that last run by UCSB…
Oo this is frustrating tired of UH losing to this Gaucho team already!!
UCSB No. 3. for a reason. it’s 15-13 UCSB at the TTO.
Sounds like our key players are making more mistakes as they are getting tired while UCSB is fighting back like a cornered rat. Will UCSB win the fourth set?
Jennings has got to develop a tougher serve.
I think UCI looked better than this ucsb team.
I don’t think this Gaucho team is a top 5 team… If Hawaii ends up losing this match it could be a bad omen for the rest of the season…
Call goes against UCSB, hit called long. Double called on the UCSB setter. UH up 22-21. TO UCSB
31. don’t know if it’s UH tiring or UCSB making the right adjustments.
Zarkovic blocked. it’s 23-23. TO UH
Fey with the kill ends it
Gosh, all four sets were determined by only two points. Those two missed serves at the end of the set by Hawaii were so unnerving. Glad that Davis Holt put down a critical kill and got his serve in. This time it was the Warriors’ turn to come back after falling behind.
A good win for the Warriors. Very much a team win after Sedore and Averill had been so efficient early..
Hawaii’s serving started fading late. ended up with 2 aces, 14 SEs.
UCSB with 3 aces, 13 SEs.
Sedore didn’t have an SE the last two matches. he had 1 ace, 2 SEs tonight.
Tsai had been on the mainland last week. Had mentioned to him Thursday about Sedore’s serving. and I also added, Well think I guess that is bachi for Friday.
day off will be good for both teams.
And, yes, I thought it would go five. Can’t get any closer than 2 points in each set.
thought Franciskovic set a nice match. UCI coach last week had said Franciskovic would only get better.
Yeah Franciskovic is coming along nicely. He needs to set more back sets against the flow but there were times when he put up some nice sets on crap passes. He also needs to work on his serve.
Siki was cold offensively early on but he ended up being the goto guy at the end. He had a bunch of beautiful blocks and his serve recieve was solid overall.
The middle connection with Averill is improving.
This was a dog fight tonight and they managed to pull it out.
Finally, a little rant: I just want to say as a season ticket holder for both Warrior VBall and Wahine BBall, Oceanic sucks for refusing to televise any matches this weekend.
Good article on Huff today by Cindy. Pointed out that Beeman will keep a scholarship open for her next season too, but wants her for more than only the last three months of the bb season. I’m wondering how that will work out with volleyball coach Shoji.
Also, for those that didn’t read it, she had to switch her major from biology to social work, due to time demands of playing two sports.
42. Thanks. Yes, that will be something to be worked out between her and both coaches.
41. you are welcome to rant, but probably better served by calling TV to complain.
Radio has cut back as well. Aren’t going on the road for men’s volleyball and baseball.
Also, on radio 1420 the other day, coach Laura said it was coach Shoji that told her that she should look at Huff play, after Dave saw her playing basketball in high school. Apparently, coach Beeman wasn’t that impressed when she had seen her play, maybe earlier .
46. What Beeman told me is that they were recruiting Huff. That her former assistant had gone to watch Huff and told Beeman that Huff was ‘just OK’ Shoji told Beeman that Huff was ‘better than OK.’ that is when Beeman went up to Washington to see for herself.
Is Guinasso returning to the indoor squad this fall? I was under the impression that she would leave the team and play exclusively sand.
I’m glad to see Sedore back up his focus for his senior year with a performance like this one!
Good all-around game for all the players. Despite Jennings needing to have a much tougher serve to be a six-rotation player, he bettered a handful of bad passes.
Good first win for “Associate” Coach Milan!
47. –So was there an offer to Megan to play basketball at UH, but more than roughly 3/4 time ? Because she had been on the volleyball scholarship earlier , not on the basketball one . Or maybe there was an open offer to her to play basketball ?
50. don’t believe there was an offer. Nor that there was an open offer to play basketball. She was on volleyball scholarship and the only reason she could play basketball is because there was an open scholarship. She could not walk-on.
By recruiting I mean they scouted her, may even had talked to her. But I believe she had already committed to volleyball.
Megan didn’t decide until late last semester that she wanted to give basketball a try. She said she wanted to focus on volleyball before making any decision so once that season was done, she began discussion with basketball. There was a scholarship open and she is now on that.
When Beeman said she wanted to talk about things after the season, that will be with Huff and Shoji. She would like to avoid repeating the situation with Adolpho, who was totally committed to volleyball during fall and only came over to basketball after volleyball was done. Who could blame her? It’s her scholarship. Adolpho’s deal began under Takara-Dias.
It’s really up to Huff what she wants to do. For now, she says she’s handling it, did it all during high school. And she said she really wants to see how good she can be in volleyball
I think what Beeman would like is something similar to what BYU got out of Robins-Hardy, who was able to play both last fall and she would go back and forth between volleyball and basketball. But travel when playing for BYU is easier than it is playing for Hawaii.
Much would depend on the schedules for both teams.
48. Haven’t seen Guinasso to ask. Will try to catch up with sand this coming week.
She’s not on scholarship for either so free to play both.
If she ends up getting money from sand in 2016, she could not play indoor.
Closing out this link.
