Let the speculation begin

Will the NCAA be kind to UH this year, make it a one-flight trip?
Thinking Stanford and Washington both get top 4 seeds, which means Stanford will host but gets sent out of the region with the NCAA protecting UW as a regional host.
If they decide to stay regional then Texas is in the Iowa State regional, Florida State to Louisville and Stanford to Minnesota. But what to do with Wisconsin. Stanford losing to UW makes that interesting.

Hoping the committee is looking at the weather and stays more regional to avoid flight delays and cancellations in east of the Rockies.

Anyway back to the Wahine. Kind or not kind? Based on the last RPI: Stanford, UW, Oregon, Arizona and pick ’em Colorado State-UCLA. CSU would make some sense … again. been there twice in the last 10 years or so.
Perhaps UH in the Iowa State regional and gets sent to Texas. They’ve won in Gregory but this year will be tougher to do so.

Selection Show at 330. ESPN U. OC 221

previous thread asked about recruits Saturday. only one I knew of was for sand and it’s 2017-18. daughter of former UH basketball player Fabio Ribeiro, she’s a sophomore in high school. think 6-2 already.

hawaii’s RPI will drop after this final weekend, b/c of the match with a 2-26 uc riverside. the question is how much, and whether that will impact hawaii’s at-large chances. the committee already started this deliberations 2 days ago, so they at least were using the RPI as of last week. still i think hawaii is safely in.

i’d like to see hawaii get sent to a lower seeded team. i think they have a shot at a minor upset, perhaps at oregon, arizona or ucla (if they’re seeded), or to colorado or colorado st (again, depending on who gets seeded).

shoji said he wouldn’t mind if they were shipped east. but with so many “west coast” teams getting in, particularly pac-12 team … it seems more likely that the pac-12 teams get sent east, while hawaii goes to the west coast.

but then again … who knows, right? more than any other season, hawaii’s post-season hopes seem so up in the air.

If I am not mistaken, the selection show at 3:30pm will be at ESPNU instead of ESPNews.

  3. Ki November 30, 2014 11:28 am

    Is this 3:30PM HAWAII TIME?

  4. warriorfan November 30, 2014 11:37 am

A little nervous that the wahine’s best wins are Northridge and Ohio, who probably wont make the tourney.

  5. warriorfan November 30, 2014 11:40 am

But I stil see UH in, just hope UH doesn’t get sent to Stanford or PSU.

  6. Cubicle1126 November 30, 2014 11:56 am

some projections on VT show that hawaii’s RPI could drop to the 36-38 range after this final weekend. a final RPI of 38 (if this is accurate and if the cmte relies on one more final RPI printout) makes me really nervous. that’s just too close to the usual RPI cutoff in the mid-40s. (damn you, riverside! 😉 )

there’s a lot of other teams in the mid-40 range with just as good, if not better resumes than hawaii (i.e., more wins against the RPI top 25 and top 50 than hawaii has).

i think hawaii is still in … but cross ur fingers, everybody !

    @2
yes, it’s scheduled for ESPNU. However, there is a basketball game slated for a 130pm start time and if that game runs late, who knows what ESPN will do. Just tune in at 330p on ESPNU to find out what ESPN will do with their coverage of the Selection Show.
Also, OC Sports will be doing a show at 4pm to recap everything t

    @3
    yes, 330p Hawai’i time

  8. Andrew November 30, 2014 12:02 pm

One thing is for sure, the committee is going to give Penn State a cake walk to the final four or at least the regional finals again.

  9. po'okela November 30, 2014 12:10 pm

is shoji ever going to officially announce and discuss his thoughts on the 3 new recruits?

  10. Broseph November 30, 2014 12:15 pm

I think the Wahine are in. I’m crossing my fingers anyway, just in case. Hoping the ‘Bows get sent to CSU/AZ/OR or East, depending on who is selected to host of course. No Stan or UW please. Mahalo.

Projections on volley talk now there is a good laugh especially that Trojan Bracketology. That guy couldn’t predict rain even if he was out standing in it.

  12. max13 November 30, 2014 1:15 pm

    11. Some of the predictions are a mess, but I wouldn’t mind the scenario having Hawai’i sent to Oregon to play Virginia Tech in the first round. Think they’d have a better chance advancing out of that sub-regional than if they were sent to Seattle. And think they match up better against Texas than PSU or Stanford. Still don’t think it will happen, but we shall see.

  13. Cindy Luis November 30, 2014 1:26 pm

    9. They will get around to it officially at some point. Did you have a particular question in mind about the recruits?

Surprised some think Hawaii isn’t getting in. They’ve held steady at 30 in the RPI and are at 25 in the poll The only ‘bad’ loss was to CSUN, whose RPI was better than Top 40 .. although CSUN’s loss to UCI likely knocks them off the bubble.
And now that ASU is fading (RPI 41)
Their other losses are to RPI 8 (Oregon), 17 (UCLA), 25 (The Beach)

But as we all know no telling what the NCAA will do.

My thought is they are around the No. 23-27 at-large team.

  14. LC November 30, 2014 1:30 pm

The NCAA says that they will tweet the top 4 seeds at 3 PM HST, 1/2 hour before the show starts.

  15. Maverick November 30, 2014 3:09 pm

Stanford, Washington, Texas and Wisconsin are the top 4 seeds (in no particular order as of yet).

  16. Cindy Luis November 30, 2014 3:31 pm

    Thank you.
    no surprise.
OC 221. basketball on, they’ll go to the selection show when it’s over.
    New thread up.

New thread? Where is it? Why don’t you just post a link to the new thread?

  25. Hapaguy November 30, 2014 4:26 pm

Nevermind. Found the info on Volleytalk…..

  26. Pot-of-Gold November 30, 2014 4:27 pm

    24. I think that it depends upon your server, some that share the same server as the host of this site get the new threads earlier, others like yourself and I, have to wait an hour or so…

  27. bleachercoach November 30, 2014 4:28 pm

Yes…Duke 1st matchup…I am very happy the girls made it…I don’t mind girls going to Seattle…Closer and not as cold as Minneapolis…Great to get a chance to play the 3rd Seed, Washington possibly…Great to have a chance early if we get past Duke to play one of the top four teams in the nation. That would be a MONUMENTAL UPSET!!! YESSSSS

  28. Hapaguy November 30, 2014 4:35 pm

    26. I figured it was something like that. That’s why it would be better if Cindy just posted the link in this thread….

  29. Maverick November 30, 2014 4:38 pm

Go to the staradvertiser.com site and look under latest blog listings. I can’t find the new thread otherwise.

  30. Hapaguy November 30, 2014 5:37 pm

OK Cindy’s report finally shows up on the home page for me. It says she posted it at 4:17. Don’t know why I can only see it now an hour or so later. I refreshed the home page and even closed IE but still couldn’t see the report until now….

  31. Cindy Luis November 30, 2014 8:55 pm

Sorry, I don’t know why either. I have tried posting the link previously but because I have a different access portal others will get an access denied message.
Have let our web guys know. this is not a new problem.
