Latest on Kahakai, Mitchem

I didn’t hear the interview on the morning show but from what I was told, coach said 4-6 weeks on Kahakai.
I called him and he said that he has since been told by the trainer that she would be out at least 2 weeks. The MRI results not back yet and no word yet if there will be surgery.

And final was able to speak with Mitchem. She said she was super excited to be a part of the Wahine program. And that she wasn’t planning on playing sand, that she was going to concentrate on indoor. Graduates in May with AA in General Studies, not sure what her major would be at UH.
Said UH has been her No. 1 choice since 9th grade and didn’t really look at anywhere else, although there has been late interest from other big programs.

    Great confirmation news regarding Mitchem!
Hoping for the best for Savanah.

  3. setaone September 19, 2014 11:56 am

Has it been said exactly how Kahakai got injured?

  4. LONGs a MUST September 19, 2014 11:56 am

Good. I hope that this Mitchem thing can finally be put to rest. It’s great news yet I’d hope that it doesn’t mean that personnel now abandons goals for 2014. With so much potential on this year’s team, I’d personally not complacently rest until 2015.

It’s going to be sweet when Magill learns to hit off one foot.

Do you guys live under a rock ? Annie coming here was confirmed long before today, you guys just don’t know where to get Wahine news when it happens. 🙂

  7. haka September 19, 2014 12:17 pm

5 We know, but we appreciate Cindy, unlike you. Do you live in a house of mirrors? I think yes and it’s all about you. 😉

Good question 2 “Has it been said exactly how Kahakai got injured?” Was wondering that myself .

  9. noblesol September 19, 2014 1:27 pm

2, 7: She was going after a hit to the middle, made a quick move on it and a lunge across the floor. She appeared to know something was wrong immediately, and went down and stayed down. Prior to that she was hustling all over the court, so it’s possible she tweaked it prior. Having had these kind of injuries, they sometimes start on a prior play, but with the adrenaline running you don’t really notice until you make a big move and then all doubt is gone.

I do know Mitchem had an offer from nebraksa. And LC, stop acting like you’re some knowledgable guy about bolleyball rumors. It’s nice you know a lot, but stop putting others down who don’t. It makes you look cocky.

Win out this weekend against N. Arizona and the Wahine are back in.
B1G’s MSU lost this morning to LIU Brooklyn.

LC. I had no idea who Annie Mitchem was until I read her name in this blog a while back. For that matter never heard of any of the mainland recruits until they signed. After reading the names I’d google them on the internet. I’m definitely not in the know when it comes to the mainland high school, club or JC volleyball players. I don’t get too excited about recruits until I see them play. To keep things in perspective, didn’t Passi win the same award as Mitchem did? In JC Passi was a acclaimed 6 rotation player. She could hit, block, dig, pass and serve. Pretty much the same as Mitchem. You just never know how much of a recruit’s skill set will transfer over when stepping up to a higher level.

  13. warriorfan September 19, 2014 2:06 pm

Passi mostly won the award in 2012 for leading her junior college team to the national title in NJCAA. Her stats in junior college were good but not great. I think that was a case of giving the award to the best player on the best team, Plus Passi was a project out of high school.
Annie won it last year, because her stats were incredible and they are even better this year, so she’s a shoe in to win it again. Annie was also a top 20 recruit out of high school , impressive because she wasn’t committed anywhere when the ranking came out. You just know Tawa out of prep volleyball site would have ranked her top ten had she committed to some school in the bIG or Texas!!!

  14. blunite September 19, 2014 2:48 pm

If Annie is as dominant a middle as the news clips say she is, UH will be top 10 again next year. Moreover, if Shoji puts Nikki on the right (where she shut down both of the Texas All-American lefts) UH will contend for the national title. Of course, this is assuming that the setting improves, the back row picks up the dinks, and the blocked hits are covered.

If, IF, Kahakai can’t come back, has she played more than the allowed number of matches (or is it sets) to apply for a medical redshirt?

  16. LC September 19, 2014 4:10 pm

IVC is a community college Annie was the two year college Player of the Year. Passi came out of CSI a Junior college she was JC Player of the year. Is there any difference between two or the caliber of players or the competition, I don’t really know because I don’t follow either. ?

  17. WaWa September 19, 2014 4:47 pm

Luckily, like Cindy said, Kahakai may be out for only 2 weeks.

Regarding the medical redshirt, she would have cut it real close but could have possibly qualified. Can’t remember exacts and don’t feel like looking it up, but from what I can vaguely remember is that a player can not have participated in more than 30% of the contests and must be in the first half of the season…I believe she competed in 9 contests, and UH has 27 contests not including NCAA tournament and not sure if the Queenseis counted, but yeah…she wouldve barely qualified for one. I think. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Luckily/hopefully things arent looking like it is coming to that.

I’m watching CSUN playing #19 San Diego. First time that I’ve seen CSUN this year and they look like they will be trouble this year.

  19. LC September 19, 2014 6:13 pm

So if CSUN beats #19 San Diego will the coaches continue their practice of swapping places in the poll, will CSUN be #19 ?
CSUN up 2 -1 and leading 14-9 in 4th set.

  20. LC September 19, 2014 6:27 pm

UPSET by CSUN. They looked pretty darn good.

  21. LC September 19, 2014 6:29 pm

If you guys are looking for the new thread look in the Obituaries.

  22. Cindy Luis September 19, 2014 6:33 pm

    6. yes, i confirmed it over a year ago about Mitchem
Merely re-confirming since LC posted something yesterday.

  23. Cindy Luis September 19, 2014 6:36 pm

    17. As mentioned above, Kahakai was going for a ball, landed on her knee. Got treatment immediately.
latest is 2-3 weeks. no mention of surgery.

  24. LC September 19, 2014 6:39 pm

    Russ Rose past Shoji today.

  25. Warriorfan September 19, 2014 6:46 pm

Ehhh, didn’t think Northridge or San Diego were all that impressive, San Diego misses Oliveira big time. I don’t think they should be ranked .

  26. Cindy Luis September 19, 2014 6:53 pm

    21. Given up on being surprised by the level of your rudeness.

  27. Cindy Luis September 19, 2014 6:56 pm

    24. and with a UH win tonight, he and shoji would be tied at 1135

  28. tossup September 19, 2014 7:53 pm

no new topic for the ongoing game?

  29. Wop ur jaws September 19, 2014 7:59 pm

UH wins not convincingly even though the scores were far apart. Play was ragged.

  30. PBnJz September 19, 2014 8:14 pm

I know there’s a new thread…there always is…I just can’t get it to show up!

  31. PBnJz September 19, 2014 8:33 pm

I guess the trick is to close out all of my other open websites on my phone and then go back to Warrior World…yea!

  32. Cindy Luis September 20, 2014 4:07 pm

28–30-31. Sorry, don’t know what to tell you. if you have it bookmarked, it might not be refreshed. I think going straight to WW is the answer.
    29. It was a new lineup tonight with both Manu-Olevao and Taylor starting. To be expected.
