Geez, not bad for a team struggling with passing. Perfection is a work in progress, practice will make permanent.

Bottom line, this team can play at the FINAL FOUR level. Rooting them on.
    -go wahine

Connor, I believe that Dave did not replace Granato with a DS when she struggled. Dave just changed the receive rotation moving McKenna out of receive rotation and rotating Nikki back to receive. My layman take is that it is still a work in progress. She’s improving with moving her feet and adjusting her platform instead of reaching. I think she was also doing a pre-receive routine with her arms just like Eric Shoji/Emma Smith. You can’t but be in awe of how she fights through things.

    1. Geez, bottom line is they won both. coaches voting aren’t doing so based on passing.

About time – congrats! Iosia is doing a great job and Norene will only get better. And I love how Dave keeps both Higgins and Koelsch active. We will need them both especially in post season. Taylor plays great floor defense and Kendra is a stud at the net.

  7. Cubicle1126 September 26, 2016 9:48 am

congrats to Iosia on frosh of the week! hopefully the first of many!

  8. connor September 26, 2016 9:53 am

Tongo: thanks for the answer to my question. it makes sense that dave adjusted the receiving group when she has problems. saves him a substitution. however, would still love to see smith replace granato in serving and backrow until granato can resolve her receiving and service problems.

  9. Ashley September 26, 2016 9:54 am

finally Norene gets recognized. Thought she deserved it a long time ago, she has been a joy to watch. Congrats Norene

#6. I agree…If our team improves our pass receiving, we will be awesome!! I think Iosia is a wonderful setter, blocker, and passer. I truly admire Higgins and Koelsch attitudes and humility of being that TEAM players. They both have accepted their roles after being starters for the last 3 years. To me, “THEY” are CHAMPIONS!”…That IMO is the most positive things I love of this team…..I have a feeling they both will continue to contribute and do something “special” before their career ends. Love you Higso and Kendra

  11. Bleachercoach September 26, 2016 10:09 am

#8….Yup I agree with that 100%…Granato is a powerful hitter with a “killer instinct” attitude, but after 13 matches, I feel she is not a backrow player. Too much talent with passing on the bench. I know Granato adds another option as a backrow hitter but if we shore up our backrow passing helping Savannah we can be more consistent in our offensive production IMO

  12. tongo September 26, 2016 12:43 pm

Picture of Koelsch dump shot to end the match at Cal Poly is one great shot. Wow!

  13. Bleachercoach September 26, 2016 2:36 pm

12…Yup that dump shot is lethal and quick…She has almost a 100% conversion pct. with her dump shots……she is a great change up at setter when we need a spark if we are struggling. Kendra has this special energy abouto her being on the court

Glad new ranking of 13 posted here. KITV’s Kekaula gotta clean up his reporting, noted Wahine moved from 15 to 14th Nationally. Looks like he’s behind a whole week or too.

Can’t wait to see more of the team meshing as they return to full strength. For Kalei, guessing that her shoulder won’t get any worse from playing?

  15. darkfire35 September 26, 2016 7:55 pm

Congrats Norene! It’s been awhile in coming. Agree Bleacher, after being the starting setter for the last few years, it would seem hard on Higgs to focus on her serving, but she has. Iosia has done a bang up job and I hope the whole team holds together all the way to the final 4! GO BOWS!

  16. kimo browner September 26, 2016 8:39 pm

Congrads to Norene. She is nationally ranked in assists and aces per set.

  17. blunite September 27, 2016 12:37 am

Congrats Norene! Well deserved for arguably the best setter in the nation.
(Carlini is good but Norene makes the whole team better)

  18. warriorwahine September 27, 2016 1:08 am

    Congratulations to Norene Iosia!

AT LAST! after being nominated every week (not almost, EVERY), for 5 weeks since the getgo, Norene Iosia dethrones ruddins and is frosh of the week!

nice hands, nasty serve! a dangerous setter who is not here to hang with the big gals but because she IS one of the BIG gals. instead of a beast, shes a beauty who plays like a BOSS.

  20. setaone September 27, 2016 5:50 am

Congrats to Noreen. I still find it amazing Shoji has started her over his returning Senior starter.

The one thing against Noreen, for these types of awards, is that setters don’t have a statistic that will stick out (kills or blocks). Assists are automatic and aces and digs are overlooked.

  21. hanawahine September 27, 2016 7:50 am

Congratulations to Norene Iosia! (True) Freshman of the Week!

  22. jmy September 27, 2016 8:21 am

Washington State sure got shafted…Beat two top 10 teams on the road and only ranked at 17…

  23. rabbit ears September 27, 2016 8:29 am

#20 amazing, I agree. Noreen is a better back row player then Higgins. That the difference I see. I am surprise coach didn’t give the 6-2 offense more of a chance. He did try it for most of one game early on.

  24. setaone September 27, 2016 9:14 am

I think a 6-2 would be difficult, considering the number of subs that Shoji uses. He already uses a DS than Greeley to play backrow for Sibley/Mitchem. Then a serving sub for one of the MB. He could let Maglio serve and save one sub.

  25. blunite September 27, 2016 9:48 am

    Looking ahead….
