Looks like Radner got the start, I know Holt has been struggling but not sure about Radner. How about the Northridge transfer?

  2. warriorfan January 30, 2015 5:12 pm

Jennings serve is ridiculous, he needs to come up with something tougher!!

  3. warriorfan January 30, 2015 5:15 pm

Looks like the stream and the live stats have died, just great.

  4. Big Island VB fan January 30, 2015 5:35 pm

It’s maddening that the video doesn’t work. At least live stats work now. So frustrating that I couldn’t see Hawaii just win the first set. So that’s an improvement. At least they won’t lose in three straight sets tonight.

  5. warriorfan January 30, 2015 5:40 pm

okay finally UH takes a set, huge service run from Fey late in the first set that got UH in the lead. Hope they keep this up.

  6. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:04 pm

They are playing great, finally. Hendrik Mol came up huge with a big service run at the end there to put that set away. He is really under utilized IMO.

  7. rayson January 30, 2015 6:05 pm

Just briefly glanced at the lives stats. Hawaii up 2-0, is that right?

  8. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:08 pm

Yes won the first 25- 22, second set 25- 19
Radner is playing for Holt and doing okay. kanatake playing much better.

  9. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:12 pm

Wow Fey just made an amazing dig to save a rally.

  10. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:28 pm

All these service serrors in this set three is keeping UCI in it.

  11. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:37 pm

Wow UH had a great oppurtunity to get set point up 23-20 and 23-21 and Siki just takes two easy half hearted swings, not sure why.

  12. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:42 pm

Just a complete and total meltdown to end that set. Brooke and SIki took very tentative swings late in that set, up 23-20 and they lose 26-24. Outscored 6-1 and only point was a kill by radnor. very disappointing.

  13. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:44 pm

Siki needs to step it up NOW.

  14. Cubicle1126 January 30, 2015 6:45 pm

damn … hawaii had that set 3 … now how do they react. this match should be over already.

uci now has new life … give them credit, they served tough and got key blocks in their run/comeback to take set 3, and denying hawaii the sweep.

  15. Big Island VB fan January 30, 2015 6:48 pm

I agree about the total meltdown. I couldn’t see who was blocked but all he had to do was hit cross court instead of line to win the point. Poor hitting choice. Yes, UCI has new life and new hopes to win in five. I hope that UH gets mad and plays with more fire and smarts.

  16. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:50 pm

UCI did okay but UH gave that set away. Jennings should have went to the middle, since Siki and Brook just werent gettting it done late, and of course all those service errors that kept UCI close in the first place.

  17. Cubicle1126 January 30, 2015 6:51 pm

what a set by jennings … runs under the net to chase a ball that traveled to uci’s side … he bumps it back to hawaii’s side outside the antenna, and sedore smacks it over for a kill … nice!

  18. warriorfan January 30, 2015 6:59 pm

Jennings and Siki and Fey have just been horrible since late in set 2. hope they pick it up quick, it’s looking like this might have to go five, ugh.

  19. warriorfan January 30, 2015 7:05 pm

UH needs to go to Taylor any chance they get, he’s money.

  20. warriorfan January 30, 2015 7:14 pm

Siki and fey really came through and got some key kills and fey with a huge block.
but what a horrible decision by Jennings on match point should have gone to Taylor.

  21. warriorfan January 30, 2015 7:16 pm

Finally, a serve out and hit out by UCI saves UH.
    Great win !

  22. warriorfan January 30, 2015 7:22 pm

Brook and Taylor really saved the day today. Both were fantastic. hard to believe UH won with Siki, Fey and Radnor not putting up great stats at all.
I really like Jennings but he needs to make better decisions late and not be predictable and he needs to improve that serve, it’s basically a free point for the opposing team.
Great win though and puts UH in the hunt to host playoffs.

  23. Big Island VB fan January 30, 2015 7:23 pm

Due to buffering I couldn’t watch the last set, but saw the last point of the match. Glad that UH got redemption. Live stats stopped working so I couldn’t even follow the match that way either. Irvine was poor all around, both in the game and in the media relay of the match. But that’s the only time I can watch UH – on the road if the opponents show the match. Can’t complain too much there.

  24. Cubicle1126 January 30, 2015 7:23 pm

great way to bounce back and take set 4. they were behind most of the set too. warriors just gutted it out, and you like to see that on the road, since nearly every road match in this league will be hard to come by. going 1-1 against a uci team that will also be top of the mpsf table is a great result.

averill was great tonight. sedore too.

the passing held up just enough against the onslaught of uci serving, which thankfully wasn’t as potent tonight.

hawaii can beat this uci team if they can stop/slow at least one of their pin hitters. hawaii defense shut down russell, and slowed la cavera just enough.

i liked what radnor brought on offense and defense. good key change for this match. also i’m sure it helped that uci had no tape on him. the key will be, can he up his game and continue to contribute as other teams get scouting reports on him.

  25. wampam January 30, 2015 7:33 pm

UCI was error prone early but settled down as the match progressed. Hawaii played tough and were consistent tonight. Loved how Hawaii played under control late and took the match with sheer grit.

  26. warriorfan January 30, 2015 7:34 pm

Now time to take both from USC at home. Will be great matches.

  27. Ron January 30, 2015 8:45 pm

Thank you WF and the rest of you that kept those of us who are computer challenged up dated on the match. A very good win! USC with their Hawaii kids look pretty good so I hope for at least a split next week.

  28. Cindy Luis January 30, 2015 11:16 pm

very nice win for Hawaii, ending an 11-match losing streak against UCI. probably should have been a sweep but UH finishes, 25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 26-24.
Key in the league for UH is to win at home and at least get a split on the road.
great comeback match for Sedore 18=4-39, Averill with a monster 14-2-23,
    Kanetake 15 digs.
Serving 5 aces, 11 SEs. UCI 3 and 18. really good adjustment on the serve-receive.
blocks very close 8-9, as opposed to Wednesday when UH was outblocked 11.5-4.5

  29. islandman January 31, 2015 1:44 pm

If you wondered why Holt wasn’t playing, he was injured (ankle) during pre-game warmups, per staradvertiser. Siki was also injured (ankle) but convinced Charlie that he could play. Siki also had to hide this fact from the Anteaters.

  30. Cindy Luis February 1, 2015 12:16 pm

    29. Thank you IM. Tsai as the beat writer does the rewrite of the match. I’ve got Wahine basketball at the moment.
SC is playing well. We’ll see if Hawaii can gain at least a split.
