Minnesota 3, Hawaii 0 … Taylor out with ankle injury

Beautiful day in Minneapolis, sun out, overnight light snow has melted.
Don’t think I mentioned that sponsoring Aspics sent warm-weather gear to the Whine, jackets, gloves and beanies.
Very convenient for the players that there’s a Starbucks in the hotel.

Match at 6 p.m. local, 2 p.m. HST and 5 a.m. in Novy Urengoy where the Shoji brothers are playing pro for Fakel. about 50 miles south of the arctic curve. Was minus-4 today when i got a text from E.Shoji

Cindy the UCLA reference is in the print edition. Front page (A1), upper right hand corner. “Wahine win NCAA opener Hawaii beats UCLA in 5……”

  2. Bozo December 3, 2016 9:29 am

Creighton went 5 with UNI and upset Kansas in 5. Cakewalks in the first round are not always good..
Go ask Kansas. Na Wahine should take heart with that as they’ve been tested in the first round.
    I say Wahine in 5.

  3. Maverick December 3, 2016 9:45 am

Cindy, your article mentioned Boise St. beating W. KY in five. Actually, it was a three-set sweep. Fyi

  4. rabbit ears December 3, 2016 10:12 am

Put away the the red ink. Give Cindy a break.

    Go wahines!!!!

  5. tongo December 3, 2016 12:03 pm

Go Bows! We are cheering you on!

  6. mauna December 3, 2016 12:12 pm

    4. Yeah put away the red ink, I believe Cindy meant cold-weather gear.

    2. I’ll go with Bozo, NaWahine in 5! cause I’d like to see a match up with Carly Kan and Missouri.

    TV OCSports channel 16/1016/1215.

Thanks for mentioning the Asics gear. I was wondering if that was something NCAA provided because of the cold destination, so it is good to know that UH’s sponsor took care of that stuff. The jackets look comfy and spill-resistant for Starbucks oopses. GO TEAM!

If you are interested in tracking the tournament results vs. AQ’s, seeds, brackets, hosts, and RPI and doing a little spreadsheet ‘what if’ play, I’ve built a spreadsheet for myself that does some of that. I’ve put it up on a OneDrive Public folder. Here is the link to my link to my 20161202_NCAA WVB_Tournament Ranking and Results spreadsheet:

This spreadsheet is updated through yesterday’s results. Note: this tracking spreadsheet comes with no assurance of accuracy and is in no way official. Do not rely on it. If you find any mistakes, please let me know; however I offer no assurance I’ll be updating it.

Next woman up and give it your best shot but let’s be honest, that’s probably the season right there

  28. Don Williams December 3, 2016 2:14 pm

    Not good…choices look like
    1) Koelsh in for Taylor in Set 1
    2) flip Mitchem and put in Koelsh

  29. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:14 pm

Taylor being helped off the court. Koelsch her replacement

  30. Ashley December 3, 2016 2:14 pm

    i am lost for words.

  31. Bleachercoach December 3, 2016 2:15 pm

I would go with Kendra Koelsch at opp

  32. Andrew December 3, 2016 2:16 pm

Now they’re going to key on mitchem

  33. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:16 pm

UNC evens the match at 1-1 19-25.

    Mitchem hasn’t seen the court.

  37. Don Williams December 3, 2016 2:19 pm

    Same here…oc16 frozen

  38. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:19 pm

2 aces and an overpass by the normally reliable Anderson and it’s 8-3 TO UH

  39. Andrew December 3, 2016 2:20 pm

damn I really thought they could have beaten Minnesota and made a run for the final four.

  40. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:20 pm

and can’t promise how reliable the blog will be. internet has been spotty.

  41. EA December 3, 2016 2:21 pm

    What happened to Taylor?

  42. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:27 pm

Mitchem blocked it’s 14-6 TO UH
Taylor landed awkwardly after coming down on a block attempt. think that knee buckled again

  43. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 2:45 pm

Gophers win 25-17. Taylor back on bench, leg elevated. ice on ankle.

  44. Andrew December 3, 2016 2:46 pm

    This is difficult to watch

  45. Cindy Luis December 3, 2016 3:05 pm

    Minnesota wins Set 2 25-17.
    Gophers win Set 3 25-19
