Hall new Wahine associate coach

The announcement will be made sometime Monday that Warriors’ associate coach Jeff Hall will move over to become the Wahine associate coach for indoor and head sand coach.

Hall replaced Scott Wong, who took the head indoor job at Pepperdine last month.

Some had questioned his credentials when his name came up earlier but he’s got a solid resume. Former AVP player, has been an assistant women’s coach.
He did say that his recruiting connections are not as current with girls club coaches

Well congrats to him. Hope he has more success with the rainbow wahine and beach wahine , than the warriors. I believe beach training going on right now? So who takes his spot for the warriors ??

Not trying to be negative but I just hope the 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes don’t suffer the way the 2011 and 2012 classes did for UH.
Hall does have the advantage of being named associate in January instead of March when Wong was hired back in 2010.
But Scott Wong had been recruiting girls at USF , whereas Hall has been recruiting boys.

I Hope Hall has good connections in the girls club volleyball scene in So cal.

Resume aside, let’s hope Coach Hall is a honest, sincere and compassionate man who has the energy to bust butt and the moxie to persuade the impossible. A lot will be riding on his shoulders, sustaining a legacy program in the days of the Big 5. Good luck and hell lot more is needed.

I’m curious who the other candidates were?

    4. Guess we will never know.

    How disappointing

    congrats and welcome to Hall.

i don’t know too much about him. here’s hoping he’s a good fit and it’s a smooth transition for everyone all around.

    1. I’m guessing that Zarkovic moves up in position. And likely Spencer McLachlin moves from volunteer to 2nd assistant. Could be tricky since McLachlin has another job.

Sand training started last fall. The players were out on the campus courts last week. As mentioned earlier Pepperdine will be coming out to play sand.
    Schedule is up at:

4-5. don’t think we ever will know. Shoji said it was a personnel matter and he was unable to release the number of applicants because of the rules HR has.

All he said was there was quite a bit of interest unofficially but not everyone who contacted him applied.

    6. Not sure why you’re disappointed. Hall apparently was the best candidate. Since we don’t know who else applied hard to judge if he wasn’t.

    6. Agreed, The UH mens team has been underachieving. Would have preferred associate from Ivine/UCSB teams who have been on a roll a nd UH can’t beat at all lately. Oh well it is what it is.

let’s be realistic. Hall hire announced today. leaves an opening for associate men’s coach. That position has not been advertised. Even if posted today, it has to be open for 2 weeks. Are you going to find someone who’d come in February, particularly from the 2 teams that are mentioned?
Didn’t say it WOULD be Zarkovic. but it makes the most sense and least disruptive.

Why not Milan Zarkovic for associate coach? The man has ton of international experience and UH will be hard pressed to find anyone with a better volleyball coaching background.

The guy might be goofy…I saw him give Cindy a hug too but the guy can coach and he has the resume to back that up.

Also noted that the Hawaiiathletics.com site already removed Jeff Hall’s picture and bio from the men’s site but still have Scott Wong’s picture on the women’s roster. Hope there was no “animosity” toward Jeff for taking another job during the season.

Could Shoji have announced Hall’s hiring after the men’s season is over??? I just think there is just too much distraction and too much uncertainty when you have an outgoing coach trying to motivate players to play well when the coach is on his way out the door.

Is the hire immediate? It must be, as Tsai has a picture of Hall moving offices.

  14. Kazu January 12, 2015 3:19 pm

Heard on the radio this morning with Josh Pacheco that Hall was going to be on the beach for the Wahine practice this afternoon.

  15. Cindy Luis January 12, 2015 4:05 pm

12 no, they couldn’tt wait hey needed a sand coach now. They wanted until after the Outrigger tourney to make the announcement so it wouldn’t be a distraction.

    13. Tsai’s photo from last fall when they were packing to go to camp. Which is what Hall told me. That isn’t him moving offices today.

Tsai is in Texas at the national championship game.

Yes, it is immediate. He’s on the beach today, out recruiting for indoor this weekend.

    10. As I wrote, it likely will be Zarkovic.

  17. Cindy Luis January 12, 2015 4:08 pm

    11. Milan is a hugger, a kisser, very Euro.

  18. Turfwar January 12, 2015 4:31 pm

Kinda weird when he holds Kanetake’s hand as he leads him onto the court during intros.

  19. Cindy Luis January 12, 2015 4:44 pm

    18. Just how he is.
