So 1420-AM located on 3rd story of arena, normally where hockey radio sits. The Hawaiian flag is there. Minnesota radio said if the two stations are there tomorrow, they’ll bring a state flag.

How was your experience at an NFL game? I saw some clips of the interior of the Vikings stadium on one of their Sunday night games and it looked unreal nice

  4. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 12:28 pm

will apologize now for spotty posts. wireless keeps going out.
    3. cool experience, great stadium. old school crowd with fight song and cheers. Skol!

haven’t been to an NFL game since covering the 03 Super Bowl in San Diego.
Growing up in San Diego we were going to Charger games starting when I was 6 or 7. my 8th grade graduation present was my own season ticket
but always nice to be in a different sports venue. thanks for asking.

  5. haka December 2, 2016 12:32 pm

  38. T103 December 2, 2016 1:34 pm

According to the stats, I feel
Like UH should be winning this 2nd set by a lot more but hey, we jus gottah keep grinding away. Annie not having an awesome match so far so but happy that everyone else is able to contribute! 2-0 let’s keep going !!!

  39. Wen December 2, 2016 1:34 pm

  46. greenthumb December 2, 2016 1:40 pm

Are the stands as empty as they look on tv?

  47. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 1:40 pm

Did I hear earlier that next spring the Wahine will be coming here to Orlando for a vball pow wow out at Disney??

  48. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 1:42 pm

In the Central Fl area we have a great team but no way the Lady Gators have a following like the Wahine have out there!! (But football rules here!)

  49. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 1:44 pm

Natasha!! 5 blks, I saw a couple great saves & even recv of service! Oh Canada!

  50. T103 December 2, 2016 1:57 pm

  51. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 1:58 pm

    46. yes, very sad. big hockey and swim meets in town.

  52. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 1:59 pm

Withers with the service overpass. SC up 15-14 at the TTO

  53. Ashley December 2, 2016 2:00 pm

wow, Kalei really having a bad night passing. so many overpasses, that’s really all i can say about set three so far

  54. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:00 pm

  55. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:03 pm

Nikki & Annie comin thru!! Natasha w/ a kill!

  57. H-Man December 2, 2016 2:05 pm

Gee, the wheels were a little wobbly. But Natasha made a nice kill. Oh, Wahine back on track. Wahine up one, time for petal to the metal.

  58. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:09 pm

Ref missed that one. ball clearly rolled up on the SC player. anyway, SC up 22-21. TO UH

  59. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:10 pm

No question, dbl hit – good timeout!! Comeon Nikki, bring us home!!

  60. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:11 pm

Net roll ace and SC is up 23-21. TO UH

  61. Andrew December 2, 2016 2:11 pm

Going to be very worried if this goes to a 4th and USC starts getting confidence and momentum

  62. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:13 pm

SC wins 25-22. on to Set 4

  63. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:14 pm

Dang!! I just broke my hand on the table!

  64. H-Man December 2, 2016 2:15 pm

Trojan figured out Wahine cannot handle dinks and soft shots as they continue to fall in the middle of the court. Auwe!

  65. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:16 pm

Maglio 10-0-23, one away from tying her career high. she was 1-0-7 in Set 3.
Taylor with 12 kills, Granato 10

  66. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:17 pm

    64. several were not intended soft shots. they were whiffs that fell. but UH is vulnerable on the shots to middle of court.

  67. Ki December 2, 2016 2:17 pm

Hawaii’s passing broke down and all the camp fire plays was ridiculous. They gotta talk more; communicate ir SC is gonna steal the match from them

  68. T103 December 2, 2016 2:21 pm

What the heck?!?! Argh, but frustrated bc we making too many un-forced errors!

  69. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:21 pm

    SC up 6-3. TO UH.

  70. Andrew December 2, 2016 2:22 pm

Not looking good at all. They look like how USC did in the 2nd set

  71. Ashley December 2, 2016 2:22 pm

the errors is what’s hurting Hawaii.

  72. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:22 pm

the passing has been shaky. and Iosia isn’t setting Maglio like she was. can’t keep going to Taylor.

  73. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:23 pm

I used to watch Dr J dunk over Bob Lanier & now his daughter is dunking me!!

  74. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:26 pm

Maglio has tied her career high. still without an error.

  75. Andrew December 2, 2016 2:27 pm

Shoji needs to sub and change something to create a spark

  76. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:31 pm

    SC up 16-10. TO UH

  77. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:32 pm

Impressed that SC libero is even playing She has a torn ACL, reason for the brace.

  78. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:32 pm

    Come on Wahine!!

  79. Ashley December 2, 2016 2:32 pm

the script has flipped. Hawaii playing the SC did in the first two sets. hate to say this, but they look like they’ve given up. someone has to light a fire in them to fight.

  80. Andrew December 2, 2016 2:34 pm

I’m sorry but if this goes to a 5th I don’t like their chances at all. USC is playing like they have so much confidence and UH looks defeated with no sense of urgency.

  81. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:34 pm

Higgins into set for Iosia down 19-11

  82. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:35 pm

Koelsch in to set for Higgins at 20-12

  83. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:36 pm

and Higgins back in at 21-13. they may be conceding and resting Iosia for Set 5.

  84. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:37 pm

    yep, Ross for Taylor

  85. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:40 pm

Lanier, daughter for form NBA great Bob, ends it 25-16. on to Set 5

  86. warriorwahine December 2, 2016 2:40 pm

come on wahine! dont let sc come from behind 5 on you! get ready for 5.

  87. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:41 pm

Good – Shoji restin Nikki for the 5th – Wahines, y’all can do it!!

  88. Ashley December 2, 2016 2:42 pm

they took Nikki out, obviously very aware they were going to a 5th. i don’t know, this is one stressful match to watch. i am running on no sleep, forcing myself to stay awake just to watch the game. why they look like they’ve given up is beyond me. can’t figure out what made them play so bad.

  89. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:50 pm

Lanier with her 24th kill, gives SC the lead at the cross over 8-7

  90. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 2:55 pm

Koelsch with the dump shot, gives UH the 11-10 lead. TO USC

  91. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 2:57 pm

Who is ‘Kelch?’ She came thru!!

  92. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 3:00 pm

    Aloha ball Wahines!!!!!!!!!!!!

  93. H-Man December 2, 2016 3:01 pm

USC coach Haley, he’s something else. Just sitting back and enjoying the match.

  94. H-Man December 2, 2016 3:02 pm

    Awrght !!!
    Wahine survive!!!

  95. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 3:03 pm

    YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

  96. T103 December 2, 2016 3:04 pm

Literally my hands are shaking. That was waaaay to close for that…. and I hate the fact they kept
Setting Nikki in the 5th set. I jus hope
She’s not totally worn out tomorrow . Seemed like they relaxed in the 3rd set and let them get the momentum to win the 4th and go to 5.

  97. Don Williams December 2, 2016 3:04 pm

I have never been more upset at OCEANIC than now. No resolution to the circutious entry (or lack thereof) to get to the game not on tv…unacceptable. Matlin should renegotiate the contract immediately…

  98. Willie December 2, 2016 3:05 pm

Wow, wow, wow! Way to go Wahine! Blood pressure was way up. What a match! OK! 1st nail or finger to the NCAA! Stomp tomorrow!

  99. mike maxwell December 2, 2016 3:05 pm

I saw Natasha’s parents & sister there – need to pay them to come to every match – y’all can thank me for ‘kahuna!’

  100. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 3:05 pm

  103. tongo December 2, 2016 5:24 pm

Wow – just like TCU last year! Congrats for pulling it. We took the foot off the gas and played less aggressive in set 3 and then became very predictable. Got to give credit to the women of Troy for fighting back and picking up the serve. So happy for Maglio for playing a stellar match. While Mitchem struggled, Annie got stronger and at the end was really going after it – like there is no tomorrow. This was a great warm up for tomorrow.

  104. rabbit ears December 2, 2016 5:27 pm

    #80 – gotta believe!

  105. Ashley December 2, 2016 5:44 pm

Creighton upset Kansas. Watched that match, Creighton is not bad at all.

  106. ignaciosaid December 2, 2016 5:44 pm

to kanoa leahey—hey guy , I like most of your color , but you need to get over your obsession with BROOM CLOSETS (just joking)! Ladies , you gotta play da whole game! IMUA WAHINE

  107. tongo December 2, 2016 5:58 pm

Posters on VT Pro Board said maybe wahines are still a little jet lag – just like last year where the 1st round TCI match went to 5 sets, and then wahines found themselves. I think we will play better tomorrow.

  108. greenthumb December 2, 2016 6:03 pm

Congrats to the team and coaches for prepping and doing their best today. And thanks to the fans who made that nice pocket of green in the stands. Guess we all know what we are doing starting about 2 p.m. tomorrow. 🙂

Meantime, let’s hope that “the committee” gets assigned to watch video of today’s match to see why it wasted a really good battle in the first round.

  109. haleiwacrossfitter December 2, 2016 6:36 pm

What conference does Boise St play in now? This must be a record breaking season for them. They could barely win a match when in the old WAC. Now, here they are not just getting in the tourney, but winning in it as well. Good for them. I wonder if all that football money is rolling down to them?

Also, I knew Creighton was going to pull it off against Kansas. They lost to Kansas in 5 at home earlier in year. That was a good match.

Regarding Hawaii tonight. They just let them back in it. USC just started playing better, Hawaii got a little sloppy, momentum changed. I’m just glad they were able to get it back before it was too late.

I love Kendra, I wish she would have played more this year. I think she should be our #2, just because she is so different from Iosia and Higgins. She brings a spark and a very offensive mind. I hope Minny didn’t catch onto her so she can do to them what she did to USC today.

  110. haleiwacrossfitter December 2, 2016 6:49 pm

Cindy, please tell Tiff we love him. Great to see our Hawaiian flag in the arena. He does an amazing job. I would love to see him do some TV work one day. I love listening to him.

  111. WizeMary December 2, 2016 6:52 pm

TCU Volleyball is selected to the post season play offs with a record like this: Overall 14-12 >>>>Conf.7-9<<<<

2016 was a losing season, here's the last two thirds of their record =

    Sept 28 = Lost

    Oct 1st = Win 3-2

    Oct 5 = Lost
    Oct 8 = Lost
    Oct 15 = Lost
    Oct 19 = Lost
    Oct 22 = Lost
    Oct 29 = Lost
    Nov 2 = Lost

    Nov 5 = Win

    Nov 12 = Lost

    Nov 16 = Win 3-2
    Nov 19 = Win 3-2
    Nov 23 = Win 3-2

    Earns NCAA Post Season Bid

    Why?
    a. The TCU head coach is on the committee
    b. The seeding committee wants to bring the balance of volleyball power AWAY from a deserving west coast who earned the reputation in the first place

    Implications?
    a. Special interest parties determine post season outcomes (not strength of team and schedule)
    b. The more resources and attention allocated to the Power Conferences (created by football), the greater the soci0-economic disparity among state institutions and non football schools.

    Resolution?
    a. Punish the committee for damaging the legacy of the sport
    b. Revamp the rating system by (1) rewarding the school with the highest conference wins /wins conf. championship (2) rewarding each school
whose conference standings indicate parity, i.e. Pac 12 2016 standings (3) reward school that earns zero loses on away matches (4) reward school that was ranked by all D1 Coaches on the AVCA polls. (5) attendance potential at matches
    c. Eliminate the existing seeding committee
    d. Establish members based on (1) geographic location (2) increase the number of members (3) each member cannot serve more than 2 consecutive season on the committee

  112. Maverick December 2, 2016 7:04 pm

Bad things can happen when you let a team back into the match. Nebraska found out the hard way, Creighton almost, UH too. But on the bright side, UH overcame adversity and a good opponent with nothing to lose. Winning championships is about winning matches when you aren’t playing your best.

Good to have a healthier Taylor playing, and she was able bail out the team several times, although that can’t be the norm. Hopefully Annie was experiencing first time jitters. Biggest block she has seen in a long time, although her final stats were respectable. Granato was, well, Granato. Nothing surprising. Maglio showed she is a top flight player. If UH can continue to get blocks from Burns, anything more will be gravy. And everyone knows passing needs to improve. If it does, tomorrow will be a very competitive match.

  113. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 7:15 pm

    updating
    1) Minnesota def. North Dakota 25-21, 25-12, 25-20

UT Rio Grande Valley and LIU Brooklyn really??? Real hotbed of top notch volleyball???

With Coach Shoji going on record that the Wahine would beat the Trojans, so glad this hard fought victory came to be. Hope the team has a high octane match tomorrow, with all cylinders firing! Think another attacking middle option opposite Mags will be needed.

  115. warriorwahine December 2, 2016 7:42 pm

    imua wahine!

btw scott robbs said they going to do this tomorrow. is ocsports broadcasting with the b1g?

  116. Maverick December 2, 2016 8:20 pm

    115. It seems that way from the UH site:

    http://hawaiiathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=wvball

  117. kahuna December 2, 2016 8:48 pm

well….UH have been beating up on BW teams for the past month. USC is not a BW team so I am not surprised that UH was on for a battle.

Playing lower level competition is not helping UH. Hopefully this win will give UH a good kick in the okole and they step up their level of play against MINN tomorrow.

  118. haleiwacrossfitter December 2, 2016 9:02 pm

A few things have to happen tomorrow:

    1. We need to cover those dang tip shots. It was getting out of control.

    2. Annie needs to be able to hit from the back row. We are missing that back row attack and she has a nasty swing from back there

    3. I love KG. But she did not have a great match today. I am not sure why Dave continually put her in instead of one of the other smalls. If she is struggling, then put someone else in. If she struggles again tomorrow, I hope someone else steps in. Not hating, people have bad matches. I’m sure she will bounce back tomorrow, but if not, we have the arsenal on the bench waiting to make a difference.

    4. Finally…use Kendra. At some point. She brings something very different to this team. Even if only for a few points at a time. She has magical powers, I’m positive of it! 🙂

  119. haleiwacrossfitter December 2, 2016 9:23 pm

Oh….and the girls just need to have fun. I know it’s a high pressure situation, but at the end of the day, it’s just a game. They looked like they didn’t have a lot of fun out there today. I just want to see them celebrate and have fun. When that happens, good things tend to follow.

Sorry, one more thing. Why are we not running behind the setter plays? (step outs, double quicks, etc.) I’ve seen them do it without Annie in the middle. Would love to see a lot of diverse plays now that we are in the post season. No holding back now!

  120. tongo December 2, 2016 9:25 pm

Replay of the match still available on BTN site: http://www.btn2go.com/game/usc-at-hawaii-on-12022016. Announcers are not volleyball players.

  121. tongo December 2, 2016 9:33 pm

#117 LOL Shoji gives his standard “we did enough” to win spin. Nikki gives a positive spin. Maglio gives a honest assessment of winning set 5 – we got a little lucky. At the end of the day, a win is a win. We will take it and move on! Tomorrow is another match – lets move on.

  122. z December 2, 2016 9:36 pm

Woooo! What a match. Seems like all the bad things that could happen did in the third game. Could see that they were down in the 4th. But I did not give up on the wahine. They kept battling and found a way to win. An error by Lanier. Who would have thought that it would end that way.

  123. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 9:52 pm

Both OCSports and Big Ten carrying the match
BTN available nationally, OCSports is in Hawaii
not sure how the OCS stream will work on the mainland

  124. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 9:56 pm

    Last score
    UCLA def. Murray State, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-9
Of the 16 seeds, 15 still alive and playing at home.’
    114. automatic bids.

  125. Cindy Luis December 2, 2016 9:58 pm

    123. freshman. tight set, didn’t get a good approach. her 67th swing
    went 26-11-67
    Taylor was 23-7-62

  126. Andrew December 2, 2016 10:11 pm

Hopefully the wahine come out hungry with intensity tomorrow. Sure we’d like them to come out with a fast start but I think more importantly they have to keep that intensity and concentration throughout the match without that giant long lull that they had vs USC. Especially with Minnesota on their home court, they’ll have to be on their A game.

  127. tongo December 2, 2016 10:30 pm

#124 OC Sport broadcast is available to mainlanders through their site. It apparently can determine where you are located. It is free for mainlanders.

  128. Willie December 2, 2016 11:01 pm

That was a heck of a volleyball slug fest, so close in kills, blocks, digs and score. Don’t get Kekaula, he says the Wahine barely held on. Did you see the match Kekaula???

Then later in his half hearted okole sportscast, he gets all excited and emphatic about Tiger Woods tying for 8th place and there are 2 more rounds to go. Don’t get it.

  129. nomu December 2, 2016 11:09 pm

One point at a time and beat Minnesota in their house.

  130. rayson December 3, 2016 12:38 am

    I believe in this team.

  131. Ashley December 3, 2016 1:09 am

to whomever wrote the article for the volleyball match, they made a big boo boo. Hawaii played USC not UCLA. just read it in the paper this morning

  132. mike maxwell December 3, 2016 1:23 am

Hope the Wahine got more rest than I did!!!

  133. Beauston December 3, 2016 3:51 am

4/8 PAC 12 team fell in the 1st round?

  134. Ron December 3, 2016 6:37 am

After watching the UH vs USC match, the Gophers might be feeling a little over confident. The problem for them will be that we are so much better than we showed. We have everything we need to pull the upset.Go Bows!

  135. tongo December 3, 2016 7:12 am

I feel the same way Ron. Wahines did not play their best as a team. I see Annie, Norene and Emma having much better matches after this post season initiation match. Gophers did not show their total array of dink/half speed shots either. Know the staff is preparing team for it. Go bows.

  136. Cubicle1126 December 3, 2016 7:32 am

even though hawaii went up 2-0, it didn’t feel like an easy 2-0 … and usc came back like you knew they were capable of … like they did in their last couple matches of the regular season against tough pac-12 competition, including ucla.

but you gotta love how hawaii was steady and unfazed in that 5th set. nikki took over when you absolutely want your all-american to take over in the latter stages… but she was also right in her post-game comments, this was truly a team effort … 4 hitters (granato, mitchem, maglio and taylor) in double kill figures, iosia with a double-double, kahakai/smith/greely with some solid defense, kahakai with 19 digs, kendra and higgins getting key minutes off the bench, and kendra with a risky (yet timely) dump shot in the 5th.

they survive to play another match. and if this year’s team is truly final four and national championship caliber, then they have to go to work and prove it against a formidable minnesota squad …

    go bows!

  137. Cubicle1126 December 3, 2016 8:30 am

cindy — btw, great article on mitchem yesterday … and a really nice story on berg today!
