Maglio 3-0-5. UH up 17-12. TO UCSB

  3. Warrior Dave September 25, 2015 7:23 pm

So good to see our middles be so successful in set 1.

  4. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 7:25 pm

Taylor still serving. it’s 20-12. TO UCSB

  5. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 7:32 pm

Manu-Olevao in on 2 blocks. UH wins 25-13
Micah Christenson also watching the match

UH breaks away from a 7-7 tie. it’s 12-7. TO UCSB

  7. T103 September 25, 2015 7:48 pm

Sooo stoked we are able to run our middle attack now that we’ve stabilized our passing. It will give us more opportunities to either go middles, gap sets, or pins. Now the block won’t be camped out on the pins! And we have greatly improved our transitions from a month ago. Go bows!!!

  8. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 7:52 pm

    UH up 19-12. TO UCSB

  9. 'ohanaInBellingham September 25, 2015 7:56 pm

    Awesome, awesome, TMO!

  10. Geno Tamayo September 25, 2015 7:57 pm

    No comments tonight?

  11. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 7:58 pm

    Maglio on the step-out. 25-14.

  12. 'ohanaInBellingham September 25, 2015 8:00 pm

Maglio’s transition play is a 180 from the early pre-season. Yay, we have a viable slide, too, thanks to her.

  13. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:11 pm

    10. Guess nothing to complain about.

  14. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:18 pm

Kahakai with 15 digs so far. should have 16 but UH called for a net violation negating the play. UH up 12-9.

  15. Maverick September 25, 2015 8:21 pm

    13. I wish we would see more of the subs. The match is well in hand.

  16. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:21 pm

Taylor with 14 kills 1 error. UH up 15-11 at the TTO No Mitchem or Castillo so far

  17. z September 25, 2015 8:21 pm

That line shot by Nikki is money.

  18. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:27 pm

UCSB barely got out of the way of Magill’s sixth kill. it’s 19-14. TO Gauchos.

  19. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:30 pm

    UH up 22-16. TO UCSB

  20. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:31 pm

    15. I’m guessing they want to get this over quickly. Back-to-back matches for UH while Cal Poly is rested.

  21. Warrior Dave September 25, 2015 8:32 pm

Only negative tonight is that subs didn’t get much play. Especially if tomorrow night is a harder match.

  22. T103 September 25, 2015 8:34 pm

woa, Maglio is KILLING IT, seriously. Only gonna get better. Cheee!

  23. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 8:35 pm

    UH wins 25-19

  24. islandman September 25, 2015 8:42 pm

Mitchem was the only one not to play. Hope she plays tomorrow.

  25. islandman September 25, 2015 8:49 pm

Last year UCSB had three Ali’s : Ali Barbeau, Ali Spindt, Ali Santi and one Allie (Sullberg). This year they have one Ali and one Grunt.

  26. Geno Tamayo September 25, 2015 9:20 pm

Ali Spindt has medical retired from volleyball and is a student assistant for the volleyball team

  27. Cindy Luis September 25, 2015 10:04 pm

    24. they’ll probably use Mitchem tomorrow, at least that’s what Shoji said. Cal Poly is a heavy left-side attacking team. But he was pleased with how Maglio is developing

  28. z September 25, 2015 10:11 pm

Nice to have so many weapons on this team. They are coming along just fine.

  29. Bleachercoach September 25, 2015 10:12 pm

#13 As we have witnessed in earlier matches, the subs will only come in sparingly (Koelsch at the 17th or more point of a game for front row purposes and she might if on all good roll finish the set) The Middles will rotate the usual; Magill. Maglio, then Mitchem. All 3 DS will rotate during a match….Other than that I don’t expect a change or tweak to the original lineup unless someone gets injured or they really have to be having a really really really terrible off nite. Maglio in my opinion has the most upside right now. She has the best block closing with the OH, moves the best up front, and now is terminating offensively more consistently at this point of the season. We are very fortunate to have 3 very good Middles…I think our team played with much more energy overall that I have seen so far other than the Florida win. We cannot have a let down in the BIG West….I know we will always be up playing Long Beach St…This was such an excellent start to our regular season….Tomorrow we will face a good 8-3 Cal Poly team….Glad to be out of there quickly….

  30. warriorfan September 25, 2015 10:39 pm

wahine played great, hope Savannah plays like this all the time from here on out and TMO.
Disappointed no Mitchem, and not more Koelsch though.

Wahine volleyball trending again on twitter, I don’t think any other volleyball team could do the same!!

  31. rapid September 25, 2015 11:01 pm

    9. tai deflected the ball upon an overpass! she ought to do that more.

    10. probably because sa is blocking posts and/or slow on the pending. i got one, olivia did a nifty play in set one shoving the ball over instead of free balling it.

    12. yes incredible. mags got magnum!

    13. lol except sa on the thread. wahine otherwise dominated santa barbara.

    25. i guess nicole lantagne welch recruited and relies too much ali. thats was funny how you said this year they have one ali and one grunt…and that ali and that grunt wasnt of much.

    30. savannahs libero skills was on point. tai slowed started her first couple plays but played lights out.

  32. oldtimer808 September 25, 2015 11:13 pm

Another good win for the Wahines and showed improvement. Kahakai is doing a good job as our libero…good digging and passing. For all those bashing TMO, she had a good game hitting above three hundred in kill %.

Possible reason why Annie Mitchem did not see play last night. Emily Maglio obviously has won the starting MB2 position. However, she is young and still relatively inexperienced. Perhaps Shoji wants to get her the maximum game-condition reps and experience so she becomes more of an instinctual player. However, just speculating.

  35. tongo September 26, 2015 7:25 am

Congrats – best match of season! Sounds also that sets to pin has been deliberately sped up according to Nikki on OC Sport post game interview – which may account for initial Tayler setting errors. Looked like Gauchos really had Olivia scouted well and perhaps it time for her to hit the back two behind the setter. Another breakout match for Emily and Savanna! Kalei is hitting so much harder this year but getting a little predictable so was so glad when she broke out her sharp angle shots. Love to see her arsenal of off speed and well placed shots that she had coming in from HS, that made defending her so hard.

  36. surferguy September 26, 2015 8:15 am

Maglio did awesome. Best blocker on team. Cannot teach her quickness.

” THE CAL POLY/HAWAI’I CONNECTION: Despite making just its fourth trip to the Stan Sheriff Center in the last nine seasons, Cal Poly shares an indelible link with Hawai’i. An All-America selection in football at Cal Poly, Sheriff (1950-54) is a charter member of the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame. An NFL standout with the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns, Sheriff was the head coach at Northern Iowa for 23 years before becoming Hawai’i’s Director of Athletics in 1983.”

We’ll get to see Katie Spieler’s cousin at tonight’s match. She is a O/H for Cal Poly.Saw a video clip on the Big West website on her.
Hope the Bow’s can play like they did against USCB.

  39. tongo September 26, 2015 1:58 pm

Wow, #10 BYU just lost to unranked Santa Clara 3-1 in WCC conference play. Will #11 UH move up the AVCA Coaches Weekly Poll on Monday, and finally break back into the top 10?

  40. darkfire September 26, 2015 2:11 pm

What a match last night! Kahakai was digging almost everything in sight. It appeared she played her spot very well when the ball went past the block. Mags Canadian slide will be awesome with experience. She just needs to speed it up a little like Adolpho did last season. Too bad we couldn’t get McGill on the slide.
TMO really played well on both kills and digs after the match got going, good job TMO. Of course, Nikki and Tayler doing their usual outstanding work. I’m guessing Dave will put in Mitchem and Kelsch more tonight for a different look.
    GO BOWS!

  41. darkfire September 26, 2015 2:15 pm

Almost forgot, it will be interesting to see how the Winden girl plays tonight for Cal-Poly. Especially with mom & aunty in the audience.

  42. rapid September 26, 2015 2:49 pm

i forgot too. na wahine were shock troops last night and left ucsb shell shocked. absolutely remarkable

  43. Maverick September 26, 2015 3:29 pm

    37. Assuming they win tonight, then yes. Not much controversy here. #12 Ohio State lost to Minnesota, #13 UCLA lost to USC, #14 Arizona lost to ASU, #16 Wisconsin lost to Penn State. Don’t think #15 Kansas will leapfrog UH. They are undefeated but they haven’t played a ranked team.

  44. LanaiBoy September 26, 2015 4:14 pm

Upset in the making? The Penn State-Minnesota match is going to five!

  45. Cindy Luis September 26, 2015 4:20 pm

    31. no one is blocking posts. I try to keep checking throughout the match and there were none last night in pending folders. I might not get to them quickly but that’s because I’m a little busy with the match.

    Please don’t make false accusations.
