one of the other stories of interest this week was the 1980 Olympic team that didn’t get to go because of the boycott, met up with the current team at the training center in Anaheim. There were 7 of the players from that team there, including setter Debbie Green, Laurie Corbelli and Laurel Brassey Iversen

The one setter that is missing is Alicia Glass. Could she have made a difference? After all, the fifth set was very close. USA started with a rookie setter.
not all that impressed with any of the setters on the roster.
USA should have won that one, led 14-12 in Set 5.
Regarding the USA Men’s setters, has Micah passed Kawika on the depth chart?
2. I agree with you. Both setters were rookies. I just watched the replay last night. Yes, they should have won that one, had three chances and they flubbed it. Hopefully Alicia Glass and her sidekick, Courtney Thompson, will return for the World Cup. They were the ones who helped USA win the World Championship against China last year.
5th set must have been fun to watch.
Cindy, this is off the subject but I was wondering when the new recruits arrive does any of the coaches meet the at the airport.
Hope, not being a nag. Do you think the SID can put out an assessment of the women volleyball recruits? Would be nice to get featured information on them.
Llyod is NOT a rookie lol. She has played for some of the best teams in the world and has amazing international success. She is a rookie in USA offense and team, yes. But she is absolutely no rookie and absolutely no stranger to international play.
I want her as the backup to glass in Rio
3. Yes, Christenson has been the top setter since last year.
5. Don’t know who handles the pick up of new players.
6. Nag away. up to Shoji to give the SID his thoughts on the recruits. then SID does the writeup. Something that fell through the cracks during the fall. They probably won’t put something out until fall prospectus. Have reminded them a couple of times that they didn’t put out anything official.
Of course, you could always read the stories I did on the players when they committed.
7. think the comment was in regards to Lloyd being a rookie with Team USA.
How valid are Dave Reardon’s claims that Gib Arnold has info on other programs including both vb teams?
I don’t remember the usual Team Outlook being featured in the last Media Guide. Whoever is in charge of that was just lazy. And then there were the two consecutive years that Kam was not included in the outlook article. I remember asking John Barry. His reply both times: Sorry bout that. It was just an oversight.
9. the claims are by Arnold and I haven’t seen the documents.
Reardon was citing ‘sources’ that Arnold said there are irregularities within the other programs.
How valid are Arnold’s claims? good question. It seems that in this case a good defense is having a better offense so going on the offensive is one diversionary tactic.
But I’m going with what Reardon wrote:
“Even if he does have some serious dirt on them — which I doubt — by going down this path Gib Arnold is going to look like Benedict Arnold when all is said and done.
10. wasn’t referring to the media guide but the outlook that is sent out by the Big West, which is written by each school’s SID.
UH also did Video breakdowns by position in early Aug.
