10-25 Saturday check-in, Top 25 scores

Team in the arena for a 10 a.m. practice. Pretty chilly.

Warmed up with a game called ‘winners side’ Setters stay the same (Ah Mow=Santos on the winners court, Wong on the other). Three other players to a side. If the winners court wins the point, they stay. if not, the other team goes to the winners side and they rotate in other three-player teams.
No blocking or serving. Shoji tosses a ball to the winners court to start play.
Gives everyone a chance to hit and play defense.

Wahine had a good practice for two hours. UCSB came in at noon.
Shoji was able to look at a bunch of combos. one I liked had Koelsch, Maglio, Passi, Taylor, Higgins and Kahakai.
Taylor seems to be fine. She actually took off the brace for most of practice. just heavily taped.
    will check in later.

Good news about Nikki Taylor’s elbow. Tomorrow should be fun to see who will play for Tai – different combos.

Watching Davis and LBSU tied 1-1. Davis seems to be getting better and better every time I see them.

Host Long Beach State just beat Davis in four sets as I expected (3 or 4). So now Long Beach’s conference record is 8-0. Hawaii is now three games behind Long Beach. Looks like Long Beach will be the sole possessor of the Big West Title even if Hawaii can beat Long Beach at home in two weeks time. The best Hawaii can hope for is to win all the rest of the matches and for Davis to upset Long Beach later on at Davis home court and then the two teams could tie. Davis is capable of doing that if it keeps on serving tough and makes fewer errors.

Long Beach State def. UC Davis, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20
UC Riverside at CSUN, in the 4th

    7. currently UH is 2 1/2 behind The Beach. should Hawaii win tomorrow it’s 2. Still plenty of matches left.
Think I said yesterday that UH needed to win out and get some help from someone else in order to share the title via someone else beating the 49ers.

LBS keeps rolling. Some under dog team is going to take them down between now and the end of season.
