Wahine softball fall schedule set

The Rainbow Wahine softball team’s fall practice schedule will again be headlined in early November by the two-day Kama’aina Tournament, which includes the alumnae game this year.

BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade will both play three games in the tournament set for Nov. 4 and 5 while UH is scheduled to play five games in two days.

The Wahine face Chaminade in the opener at 5 p.m. on Nov. 4 with a game against BYUH to follow. The Silverswords and Seasiders meet at 11 a.m. on Nov. 5 in the first of four games. UH takes on both Division II teams before ending the day with the alumnae game, tentatively set for 5 p.m.

They close the fall with a trip to Maui scheduled for Nov. 11-13. UH faces UH-Hilo on Nov. 12 and the weekend will include a clinic sponsored by Maui Softball.

The Wahine can begin on-field drills — limited to 2 hours per week — on Sept. 15. Fall practice officially begins Oct. 10. They return three seniors — pitcher Kanani Aina Cabrales, outfielder Ulu Matagiese and first baseman Heather Morales — and welcome 10 newcomers to the program.

UH coach Bob Coolen is in the process of finalizing UH’s annual series of nonconference tournaments.
