Gameday: Wahine open at Grand Canyon

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team was scheduled to get an early start to opening day.

The Rainbow Wahine are set to open coach Laura Beeman’s fourth season today at Grand Canyon with tip off set for 11 a.m. Hawaii time (2 p.m. in Arizona) at GCU Arena in Phoenix.

They were scheduled to start the day with an hour-long pregame shoot around at 5 a.m. Hawaii time and the early start was part of the reason Beeman booked the team to depart on Tuesday on their season-opening road trip.

With two full days to adjust to the time change, Beeman said in a phone interview Thursday night that she was pleased with the team’s energy and focus in its practices in Arizona.
