UH has no monopoly on bad timing

When University of Hawaii basketball coach Gib Arnold was fired a few days before the start of the 2014-15 season, many complained about the timing. Same when the NCAA announced sanctions stemming from its investigation of UH on the first day of the Diamond Head Classic last December.

Cal is suffering today from similar bad timing, as the school announced it is moving toward terminating assistant coach Yann Hufnagel for sexual harassment allegations four days before meeting UH in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Hufnagel has been under investigation “the last few months” for allegations stemming from a complaint by a female reporter who regularly covers Cal athletics, a source close to the situation told me this morning.
