Rolovich Incentives

Some details were released about Nick Rolovich’s compensation at his introductory news conference today.

As Ferd Lewis reported in the Star-Advertiser this morning, according to sources, Rolovich’s base salary is $400,000 per year.

If UH decides to buy him out (termination without cause), the remainder of the contract base salary, with a limit of $150,000 for the fourth year will be owed to Rolovich.

The contract is for four years.

Performance incentives include $40,000 for winning the Mountain West West Division championship and $80,000 for winning the conference championship.

There is also a bowl game incentive, ranging from $20,000 for making it to a bowl game up to $1,000,000 for winning the national championship.

If Rolovich is Mountain West Conference coach of the year, he receives $20,000. He also gets $80,000 for each of eight national coach of the year honors.

An Academic Progress Rate of 960 gets him a $20,000 bonus, with it bumping up to $40,000 if the APR is 980 or greater.

If Nick Rolovich is happy, then nothing else matters.

The salary is lower than the other HC’s in the conference. But, for Nick Rolovich, it is an opportunity to be a HC at his alma mater.

At the introduction he said he will have an OC calling the plays. He also said he wants to be the best HC he can be. That says a lot because he is clear about his position as HC and the duty of his OC in regads to offensive play calling.

With the previous regime, it took four years to finally get an OC. I think the first year Chow had some what of a de facto OC. Wasn’t Chow calling the plays that first year?

Anyway, best of luck to Rolo!

    Go Warriors!

Regardless who calls plays, head coach often shapes gameplan and disallows some plays and also has veto power during game. Different head coaches use that authority more than others. The best don’t micromanage and let their playcallers do the job they were given by him to do.

Good luck Rolo. I to like the fact that he has a clear plan and he wants to be the best HC for UH, he’s getting an OC to do his play calling which is great on him I think. Any idea on who the new OC or DC will be?

Hope the Lee’s are not on staff. No offense, but they are more suited for HS.
