Padello ready to serve

Defensive end KK Padello, a specialist with the Hawaii Army National Guard, is agreeable to putting his football career on hold if he is deployed to the Middle East next year. A Star-Advertiser story reported the Hawaii National Guard should be prepared for possible deployment early next year.

“I joined to serve and protect,” Padello said. “That’s what I’m about. I care for people, and I care for people who can’t care for themselves. When my nation calls, I’ve got to go. It’s worth protecting what’s here, what our nation is all about.”

Thanks for your service to Country! A family protege played at UH while in the Hawaii Guard in the 90’s and was deployed to Italy during the Kosovo conflict in Southern Europe- returned and finished his football career. Never regreted answering the call. He blossomed as a result. There are many more who had their football careers shortened over the years to serve. From WWII through Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Sadaam and on to the subsequent 9-11 conflicts in AFg & Iraq. Best wishes to Padello-a true Warrior!

KK gives me renewed faith in our incredible young folks (men and women) who choose to serve. Inspiring!

Perhaps it’s not too late for someone like Col Trey Johnson in the ROTC program to get KK into the “Green to Gold” program. Might be worthwhile to receive those butter bars to go with the coveted diploma.

Zeno Choi-I have closely followed him since the day he walked on. This young man has worked to be a contributor since the day he arrived. He deserves all the accolades he receives as he has pushed himself to get on the field. Had a chance to speak with him at Michigan last year, saw him in the hotel lobby at AF. He shot a comment to me “you are everywhere”! Pleasure to meet him even a greater pleasure to see him earn a scholarship-Leave your mark Zeno!!!! GoWarriors!!!!
