Gameday: Long Beach State

Hawaii has a chance to get on the board in the Big West tonight against Long Beach State.

The 49ers are not at full strength. However, as we know, little has come easy for the Rainbow Warriors this season. They will try to avert their first 0-3 Big West start.

Preseason all-conference forward Gabe Levin, who went down with a knee injury just before the turn to 2017, did not make the trip. It sounds like he might be out for the season.

The Beach still has potent scorers in guards Evan Payne and Justin Bibbins, as well as a front line capable of throwing its weight around.

LBSU is favored by a slim margin.

Where will UH get its scoring? Gibson Johnson has taken over the team scoring lead (10.8 ppg) with Noah Allen’s slump. The bench has given the Bows almost nothing the last few games, but Brocke Stepteau, Leland Green and even Zigmars Raimo have been more assertive of late.

Former UH assistant Senque Carey, who was a UH assistant during the interim season with Benjy Taylor, is an assistant with the 49ers.

Wow!! What an improved performance by our young team. Did they turn the corner tonight? Only time will tell and at least we’ve got something positive to build on by beating a traditionally strong conference foe.

BMac: This game was nutz. The officiating was inconsistent for both teams. Seems like the Warriors could not “buy a bucket” for the longest time. Will need to see replay cause it was pretty exciting at the end of regulation and during OT.

That was indeed a crazy game — especially on deadline!
