Gameday: at UC Davis

Hawaii’s Big West senior night tour rolls on tonight at The Pavilion in Davis, Calif.

By the end of this week, UH (14-13, 8-6 BWC) will have been a part of six home finales, three last year and the same three this year — Hawaii, UC Davis and Long Beach State.

It certainly was a battle at the Pavilion last senior night, when Hawaii rallied from an 11-0 hole to start the game and withstood Darius Graham’s pull-up 3 at the horn.

Right up there with the game at UC Irvine on Jan. 7, this should be one of the most challenging road games of the season. Davis (18-11, 10-4) is tied in the loss column with UCI and is unbeaten at home at 10-0, including 7-0 in the BWC.

In a six-point UCD win in Honolulu on Jan. 21, 6-foot-6 forward Chima Moneke was a beast, going for 26 points and 13 rebounds.

Hanging over the actual game is the NCAA’s frustrating lack of urgency. Just as crazy as it sounds, UH still doesn’t know whether it’s playing in the conference tournament next week.

An article by the Davis Enterprise was brought to my attention today. In it, it’s reported that UH had its appeal turned down by the NCAA once and for all this week. To my knowledge, this is not accurate.

UH theoretically has until Saturday to hear back with finality before the Big West moves on/UH takes itself out of the running.

The Aggies, who start four of their five seniors, are currently favored by 5.0.
