Gameday: at CSUN

The streak is on the line tonight.

Can Hawaii (14-7, 2-3 Big West) stay unblemished in games immediately following a loss? A win tonight at CSUN’s Matadome would move the Rainbow Warriors to 7-0 on the season in such contests.

The game isn’t televised but may be live streamed for free at BigWest.TV.

Much has been made (rightly so) of this team’s ability to respond to adversity, be it on the court or off. UH has a little of both to deal with, what with the six-point home loss to UC Irvine last Saturday coupled with the reports about alleged marijuana smoke in two rooms during the UC Riverside road trip.

The ‘Bows are trying to move past both, and claw their way out of sixth place as the midpoint to the league schedule approaches during this four-game road trip.

You’d expect CSUN (6-15, 2-4) to handle UH’s pressure better at home, with days to prepare for UH’s schemes and film to dissect of the 28 times the Matadors coughed up the ball last time against the ‘Bows.

CSUN is one of three places UH has yet to notch a win as a Big West member, along with Long Beach State and Cal Poly. UH gets a crack at all three on this trip.

Keep an eye on Aaron Valdes — as he’s gone, so have the ‘Bows over the last four games. If his on-again, off-again recent pattern holds up, he’ll put up some pretty big numbers today (and his 34 against CSUN last time was a career-high).

Also watch Isaac Fleming. He was sick getting on the team flight on Tuesday, and rejoined the squad on Wednesday. He may still be feeling the effects of the flu.

Wow, this team continues to surprise me! They only force 9 TOs against a team that they destroyed defensively in Honolulu and they still pulled out a comfortable win. They shot well from the field and really bounced back from last game’s horrific shooting. I’m glad they found their touch…if only they could knock down free throws….

Brian…maybe you should take Gib’s picture down from your Court Sense front page.

Hank, I’ve been told it’s in the works. Thanks for your feedback.
