Allen’s rare air
Noah Allen is on some kind of tear.
The senior wing has put up 81 points through three games of Hawaii’s five-game homestand. During his three-year career at UCLA, he totaled 84 points.
By going for 25 against Long Beach State, 30 against Cal State Northridge and 26 vs. UC Davis, Allen became the First Rainbow Warrior since Michael Kuebler in 2003-04 to score 25-plus in three straight games. Kuebler scored 29 vs. New Orleans, 28 vs. Lamar and 26 vs. IUPUI.
If Allen goes for 20-plus on Wednesday against UC Riverside, he’ll become the first ‘Bow since Kuebler to do that in four straight contests. As it stands, Vander Joaquim was the last UH player to go three straight games of 20 (20 vs. San Jose State, 23 at Fresno State, 22 at Nevada in 2011-12).
Allen has done it by getting aggressive on drives and the backboards, and getting to the line consistently. He is 22-for-27 there over the last three games. He was 23-for-31 for the 15 games of the season prior to that.
Pretty remarkable stuff when you consider Allen totaled 13 points over the five games before his outburst.
If he keeps playing like he has been, UH (8-10, 2-3 BWC) will give itself a shot in any remaining Big West game.
