All five of Hawaii’s primary spring spectator sports are in action this week, plus some others. The No. 1 UH men’s volleyball team (12) and Rainbow Wahine basketball team (five) put some significant win streaks on the line. Hawaii softball: Rainbow Wahine settle into new roles in opening tournament

The Paradise Classic ended the way it started for the Hawaii softball team. With a lopsided win over Northern Colorado. In between, the Rainbow Wahine took their lumps from Memphis and Iowa State, the latter of which went on to win the four-team tournament on Saturday afternoon, as they worked through new roles and responsibilities. The Hawaii softball team made a return to relevance in 2019. Will it build on that act, or recede? UH, second place in the Big West a year ago, was this week picked to finish third in the eight-team league, behind four-time defending champion Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State. Hawaii softball: 2020 schedule officially released

Hawaii softball’s official 47-game 2020 schedule was officially released. Thirty of those games take place at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, with the highlight the inclusion of Women’s College World Series team Minnesota of the Big Ten in the Rainbow Wahine Classic. UH will face the Gophers on March 11 and 13, just prior to the start of Big West play. The opener is against Northern Colorado on Feb. 6 in the Paradise Classic. Local fastpitch softball leader Warren Okinaka’s life to be celebrated

The life of Warren Okinaka, a leader in the fastpitch softball community, will be celebrated Sunday, July 21 at Pearl Harbor. He died July 7 of natural causes at age 71. Okinaka was a civil engineer at he Pearl Harbor Shipyard. Okinaka was especially known as a coach, for organizing the Oahu Junior Olympic Softball Program in 1987 and also as an umpire and a mentor for many other umpires. “He was even a one-man grounds crew, dragging the fields […]
