I really wish that Robyn had been a philosophy major rather than sociology. Dejavu UCSB post Poly.
It’s looking to be a long night.
1. or a short one. 25-19
When I went to check on the brownies I am baking, the Wahine were down 6-12. When I got back, they closed the gap to 13-15, finally winning 25-19. Nice come-back. And now Natasha showing why we are going to miss her next season
Go ‘Bows. Mahalo, players and coaches. Best wishes to the seniors in their next chapters.
It would be too funny if that 3rd set made all the difference in RPI and the NCAAT. smh
nice win, strong finish, great season to be proud of. does the band play on…why not!
Granato .429 and 17 kills, 2 SA’
i miss seeing the graduating classes come up with some special performances for the fans, their family & friends. lol, maybe that’s just me.
Re: 8 … Yes, so do I. But as this is a case in which the 2018 version of the Rainbow Wahine will more than likely be remembered for bringing back the Ghost of the Xmas Past of 1992 than for anything else, perhaps it’s best to just do a “one and done” finale match and hold your head up high in the face of “could have, would have, should have” adversity.
I too wish Natasha Burns would reconsider. She is just a year away from being named an AA (under the tutelage of Lundqvist) but if she doesn’t see volleyball in her future, so be it.
For those who are new to the format of the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Volleyball Championship, here is a quick rundown:
When the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Committee (this year chaired by Carrie Coll of Fresno State) named the nation’s Top 10 teams (1 = BYU, 2 = Stanford, 3 = Minn, 4 = Illinois) on November 4, the Committee signaled that the period of intense dialogue with the NCAA’s regional advisory committees had begun.
During selection weekend the Committee reconvenes to agree to respectfully disagree, and the final bracket is revealed during the selection show on Sunday, November25, at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
Congratulations to Cal Poly for defending its Big West conference crown and becoming the league’s automatic qualifier. Will it be a seeded team and host a sub-regional? Will it be in a bracket that makes the path to the regionals (Sweet 16) reachable?
#8: Takes time and effort, but I, too, miss the performances by graduating seniors. Always made Senior Night special with a celebratory and unique feeling.
Mahalo, congratulations to the graduating seniors, the rest of the team and the coaching staff.
It really has been moving to watch how hard the coaches work with individual players during the games: they utilize every opportunity and turn it into a teaching moment. The coaches are super dedicated and committed to working on spinning magic with what they were given/inherited.
I am still holding out and believing the team will make it to the NCAAs, by a hair.
Can Natasha Burns play basketball?
Somebody on a different blog told me that she could.
If Burns brings to the table a lot of intangibles, that would help.
I attended my first women’s basketball game yesterday.
I didn’t see a leader on the court nor on the bench.
Kalei Greeley was awesome in that aspect. Even when hurt, she was so integral to the team.
Ms. Luis, I tried live blogging the Portland game yesterday.
When you blog, are you exempt from the robot test?
I’m checking off boxes and I’m missing the going-ons of the next play.
I finally gave up and just watched the game.
Player as team leader on the bench, I did not mean to imply that the head and assistant coaches aren’t leaders. The bench looked quiet.
Whoever is making the schedule for the wahine is so unfair. Yes, we all know about the back to back games for the Wahine and no one else. The other thing that is unfair is the break. What is the point of the wahine getting a break last week? To be fair, they should have gotten the break in the middle of the season. Not wait until the week before the last two games. Gees!!!!
I noticed the moms for Natasha and Casey were almost as tall as their daughters.
Cindy dio you know if they receive the NLI from the foreign student? They already posted the other for on the web site.
Nice photo; big smiles. Happy for Sarah Liva and Tita Akiu to finish their careers at home with the Wahine. I enjoyed the taped interviews. Natasha said she will miss Zippy’s. Good luck to McKenna Granato and Casey Castillo on their pursuit of a professional career overseas.
Looking forward to next year. Coach got to hand pick her recruits. Tita Akui opens my eyes to the value of the Libero position. Wow what a difference with Tita and Rika back there.
1st match pairs
Huddleston Loker
Martin Dreeuws
Hurkett Stevens
Based on warmups, next pairs look like:
Ozee Forbes
Scoles Napoleon
Homayun Russo
No idea of flight order
Practice like you are going postseason. And if team somehow squeaks in, know your roles, do your jobs, execute game plan. Hoping for the best. If they make it, they earned it. Just our two pennies.
Hawaii is a regular participant.
Get chance.
Pre-season prediction was that wahines to be finished in middle of BigWest Table…Now it seems right as teams in top half of Table shown their competitive strength and BigWest deserves worthy of recognition by rewarding at least, two entries for post-season. Wahines earned huge accomplishment finishing at 14-2 in Big West. Not having a go-to player is there biggest strength/ attacking weapon and shown the fighting spirit of legend boxer, Sugar-Ray, i.e. able to fight back very strong (in second half of season) even though hit by few knock out punches, (mostly, in beginning of season). Congrat to seven seniors but wish Natasha Burns Alii be back to rule next year!
couple of comments
Burns is not going to play basketball. She’ll concentrate on graduating in May
12. I don’t deal with the robot test. It is how this blog was set up.
16. have not heard about Swedish NLI being sent in yet. They’ll announce when she clears compliance.
21. they are practicing this week with that intent.
