Here’s a Halloween treat for UH basketball supporters: Leland Green said he expects to be available to play in Friday’s exhibition against Hawaii Pacific.
Green has been recovering from a shoulder ailment and ensuing corrective procedure.
He did not play in the Green-White scrimmage a couple weeks ago.
But Green worked out today on his own today, using a ball retriever while shooting jump shots in the Stan Sheriff Center.

Last year, I remember Mike Thomas was playing to his strengths at the outset, but as the season wore on, he expanded his game.

I don’t care either.
I was trying to make a point about integrity.
I didn’t anticipate about all these non-sequiturs.
I hope the UH Basketball team does better than the football team.
It would be nice to see Hawaii defeat Utah St. But, I just think Fresno St and Utah St are the class of the league.
The season started so promising at 6-1. As much as I would like to see Hawaii football win, Utah St seem to be playing at a much higher level.
I say this with caution because I am only an observer. If Rolo’s wants to run the Run and Shoot, he should just focus on the that offense. If he wants to run a hybrid how he did the first two years or his offense at Nevada, he should do that. But, if he decides to go back and forth, I don’t think it will end well during his tenure here at Hawaii.
The offenses that have worked in Hawaii are the triple option and the run and shoot. I also think Rolo is the person for this job. Who else would have this type of connection to the islands and take a cut in pay as a HC? It will be interesting to see the fan support on Saturday.
I guess i was wrong. Not for Maryland Terrapins.

It’s really something, people want coaches to think “outside the box” (I HATE that term) and when they do they are criticized. This *is* the Rolo Offense – some Run and Shoot, some Run-Pass Option, heck it would be cool to see some option with Cole going wide and Miles Reed or Ursua trailing him. Why shouldn’t Rolo do a number of different things? just because it’s different and doesn’t fit into the nice little box of what you know?
One area of puzzlement is Cole McDonald’s running of late. Obviously we are facing much tougher defenses but in early games he would take off on long gains, as well was the rest of the UH running game. Lately theres a lot of stutter stepping and getting stuffed. So much of his game seems to have changed since the first five games but it must be attributed to defenses getting better and knowing how to disrupt the rns. Unless the offense can score 50 pts or more, any victories to be had will have to come from the defense.
While I agree with Rodney, the other consistent factor is that those three HS teams have consistently better talent than most other teams -with the inclusion of Kahuku. At the end of the day- talent and depth wins out- just ask Alabama.
Defense just has to get in a rhythm with each other. D-line, LB’s DB’s all out of sync. It really pinpoints the individual weaknesses of each player when things aren’t synchronized right. In the end it’s the coaches (coordinator and position) responsibility for this kind of collapse. Have to simplify things (even technique) to restore confidence, especially with a young team I think. More “I got your back” assistance and leadership between each position group. LB’s got D-lines back, D-line got (via pressure) DB’s back etc. Together. In sync. Just a matter of the “basics”. This defense will be really good next season, but each individual has to find out how to apply their persona to this “synchronization”. That’s all they have to do. Believe in their abilities. Do your best.
What Hawaii lacks year after year is truly consistent three-point shooting.
Zane Johnson could hit the three, but he was streaky.
His senior season was sort of a bust. He went into long dry spells.
Bo Barnes could have been that guy.
Unfortunately, he transferred to Arizona State(?) and largely sat until his senior season.
Dominic Waters was another disappointing transfer. He had the ability to run the court and pull up at the top of the key and hit the shot.
When I think consistent three-point shooter, the guy who last fit that label was Matt Lojeski.
I hope one of these new guys can be Lojeski(this is Hawaii’s contemporary high-water mark).
The game is so much easier.
Channel 2 sports said that there is a game this week between UH and USU on Saturday (after a lengthy piece with Tua). They are giving out 2 Bruno Mars tickets, so go to the game!
Logan, Utah is a nice, small, and quiet town north of SLC. The fact that the USU coaches can attract talented players to this small town is a testament to them. USU’s talent base has increased steadily since the Gary Anderson days (along with Dave Arranda). Their greatly improved facilities has also played a significant role in recruiting talented players, too. Shows the value of commitment from their State, University, Athletic Dept, and boosters there. Imagine the possibilities at UH if they had the same.
Regardless, GO WARRIORS!!

Why does it seem so hard to produce a competitive team? Forget the first six wins. What matters now is how Hawaii finishes the season. Fan support. Less than 20K on Saturday. There are losses, but the back-to-back Nevada and Fresno St losses were really bad ones. No one asking for wins, but Rolo is challenged to show he can produce a team that challenges.

The team is going in the right direction. Things weren’t going to suddenly turn around in one season with a national ranking and conference championship. Considering the amount of players that were lost and a new offense, defense and special teams, I think the team is right where it should be at this point which is middle of the pack. That sure beats being cellar dwellers for the past how many years (except 2016). With more recruiting and creating depth, that’s when UH can make a move to start going to the top of the conference.
